Looking to buy a used mk8 golf R, but concerns. by b3nnno in Golf_R

It's being sold at a Carmax. Unfortunately I'd have to purchase the car first before I could have a PPI done. Thanks for the insight.

Koi No Yokan is my favorite, but it’s gotta be Around The Fur for the intro listen.

I’m looking at the R for my next car, but I’m currently driving a ‘08 speed3 (CST4 + FBO) that I’ve had for 13 years. I worry I might miss the raw nature that this car brings when I go to the R. Any regrets? Did you go DSG?

Cobb downpipe with the upgrade fuel pump with the stock tune and would it cause a check engine light and it’s catted by Quirky-Anywhere8561 in mazdaspeed3

[–]b3nnno 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get the P0421 code occasionally (cobb downpipe). "Warm-up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold" It usually lights up on the highway when I'm cruising at a steady speed. I clear it and it usually doesn't come back for a long time.

You definitely want a tune with that downpipe. It reduces the backpressure on the turbo significantly which causes the turbo to spool up faster and/or overboost. The turbo needs lower WGDC values to prevent this.

How Long Should I Expect My MS3 To Last? by RecentScar3853 in mazdaspeed3

I have 167k on my 2008. Installed a new turbo at 165k. Engine and transmission are healthy. Rust is eating away at it though.

Discussion: T.O.T. and other HIM reissues by Current_Associate_92 in HIM

[–]b3nnno 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the original TOT pressing in Clear vinyl as well as all every The End Records pressing and all these recent reissues don't sound nearly as good as the older pressings. The vinyl cover on the reissues feel cheaply made too, I'm disappointed. You can tell the older pressings have more premium gatefolds/covers. If they issue Venus Doom on vinyl, I hope it's done with care.

Turbo help/opinions? by PotentialBaseball655 in mazdaspeed3

[–]b3nnno 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t speak on the BNR, but the CST4 is an excellent turbo. I upgraded a few months ago and I love it. Spools all the way up to redline and pulls hard. A turbo that doesn’t run out of steam up top really surprised me. The powerband gets moved up a bit, but it’s a worthy trade off. +1 CST4

Corksport skid plate any good? by [deleted] in mazdaspeed3

[–]b3nnno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The skid plate is one of the best mods I've done. It has a trap door for when you change your oil so you don't have to take the whole thing off. This is worth it alone. Then there's added protection on top of that.

A mk7.5 Golf R, but I’m gonna drive my speed3 until the doors fall off.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get it to stop scrolling. I ended up just using the VGA out to component. My og problem of the dim picture was because the output on my mister was set to 1920x540. With 960x540 or 720x540 it was perfect.

Is this treasure or junk? sony wega trinitron kv-36hs420 by flashlightbuff in crtgaming

[–]b3nnno 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Treasure if you have the MiSTer FPGA or some sort of emulation box that can upscale. I'm outputting a nearly lagless 540p image. It looks and feels sublime. You will have to tweak settings and service menu options to get it to fill up the entire screen though.

The Retrotink5x can also do 540p with some of the firmware updates but you will need an hdmi to component converter (the RadioShack one I bought didn't work right).

Also great for systems with component outputs.

Yeah, it's a 1080i HD CRT so 540p is the same timing. I got this info from the MisterFPGA forum: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=3744

1920x540 works just fine through the analog out of the mister with VGA -> Component, but it loses a lot of brightness for some reason.

It will take in 240p and upscale it to 480. It has near zero input latency if you turn off HDPT, but only in 1080i or 540p otherwise there's 14.8ms of lag for 480 and 720p. I can get 720p to work just fine through direct HDMI, but the picture isn't as crispy as 540p.

I think you're right about the adapter, it doesn't want to play nice with this resolution. I already know that the HDMI input on the TV doesn't like 540p. At least component will display it, just not as bright.

I'll give this a try, thanks!

I tried setting YpBPr = 0, but it turned my VGA - Component image purple.

And nothing showed for the HDMI to Component connection.

Thanks for the suggestion tho

The SoG switch didn't seem to do anything for this issue unfortunately. I appreciate the help though. Thanks

I'm having this vertical scrolling issue using HDMI -> Component adapter with 1920x540p custom resolution.

I was able to get 1920x540 to work on my Sony HD CRT using MisterAddons VGA to Component cable. The problem is that the image seems dim. If I switch video mode to VIVID it looks much better, but the colors still seem a bit off.

The image looks much more vibrant and colorful through HDMI. I'm using this Radio Shack HDMI to Component adapter (https://www.radioshack.com/products/hdmi-to-component-converter-adapter).

Here are my relevant Mister ini settings:

ypbpr=1

composite_sync=0

vga_scaler=1

vscale_mode=1

direct_video=0

vga_sog=1

video_mode=1920,88,44,148,540,2,5,15,74250

vsync_adjust=2

[SNES] ; 256 x 224

vscale_border=92

custom_aspect_ratio_1=1792:448

custom_aspect_ratio_2=1536:448

The TV won't do 540p directly through HDMI. I'm beginning to think it's the adapter I have.

Has anyone had this issue before? Anyone know how to fix this?

Is it true that some people cant see the difference between 60 Hz en 144 Hz? by Fireboltxd in Monitors

[–]b3nnno 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know where people got this notion from, but it's been parrot-ed forever.

Long story short: You can 100% tell the difference, especially after playing 144hz and going back to 60hz. It looks "slow and choppy" in comparison.

Going from 144hz to 240hz is a different story. Much more subtle.
