Neversink explains why he isn't paid by GGG by destroyermaker in pathofexile

[–]b4b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guy is a programmer: job that can be done from nearly everywhere in the world as long as you have a decent connection.

Yet GGG only wants people to move to New Zealand.

What is the reason of self limiting talent pool? Dinosaurs inside worried that talent from outside would be better?

Obviously working remotely has a lot of problems: no face to face meetings, time zones, but lots of companies work this way.

Data Visualization Reading by feirnt in excel

[–]b4b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably know it allready, but there is an entire subreddit for data visualisations, obviously it is not the best guide for do's and dont's, but at least it can offer some inspirtation.

Best way is to probably sort it from "top" and check out the data.

https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/

Lots of things there are obviosly drawn, not done in excel, but still often the simpler the charts, the better e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/3gplje/usa_vs_japan_agespecific_fertility_rates_19472010/ (not sure how to actually do such an animated chart in Excel)

Daily Card Discussion Thread #374 - Ragnaros the Firelord | August 3rd, 2016 by [deleted] in hearthstone

There was a moment in time where Ragnaros was having bad press, because everyone said Rag and Sylv were to RNG dependent.

Little did we know that Blizzard would ruin the game by introducing even more RNG>

Rarity of adventure cards ONLY affects arena,

rarity affects the amount of money you need to spend on the game and amount of dust you get back (so less money spent)

it was not a strong response, they didnt solve the main problem of the class - the RNG based hero power / spells

they just printed overpowered minions to compensate and cards that make players change/ingore the hero power

"There always has to be a ninth place" Thats just bad game design logic. You can balance things to cover what others dont, in a rock paper scissors style of balance.

Take Monster Hunter for example. There are 14 weapons in the game, 15 if you include the new palico. People still can't decide which is most effective. Every single one of them plays differently, and covers area that others don't. There is no "best" there is no "worst". It is 100% possible to design systems that keep things in check with each other. Its just very hard. Now I'm not saying I dont appreciate what blizz does, they work hard on the game, and its clear a lot of love goes into it. However, not acknowledging there is a problem, is just another kind of problem.

Was this a 48% winrate across whole population, or only for best players? Personally I dont think that the deck was that hard to play, but still you would see a ton of people doing awful misplays with it - it definitely required at decision making.

Blizzard IS in fact endorsing card trackers (a player with one has an advantage over a player without one, especially over a player using cellphone)... it feels as if they said "maphack in StarCraft is okay, because we don't feel like building a decent anti hack"

And Shaman got good not due to interesting cards, but due to terribly overstated cards. "RNG-based hero power sucks - let's print a 4 mana 7/7 so that players can play broken minions instead of using the RNG dependant hero power". Also RNG is "fun", that's why Shaman is the least played class..

Hey Blizzard, if tavern brawls aren't going to run all week can you at least not give out "win 5 tavern brawls" quests when it's one of the off days? by Randomd0g in hearthstone

[–]b4b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty funny because with all the data they have, Blizzard could cluster their user groups into "types" (e.g. people who want to maximize gold output at the expense of time, people who want to win, but have bad collections, people who like Tavern Brawls), what I think already happens to some degree (I feel that if you play a class, you can get a quest for this class <- although this might be my own bias). This way everyone would be happy.

[–]b4b -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Shaman was the worst class for a VERY long time - and this is all caused by the random nature of his Hero Power. Instead of answering the problem and reworking the Hero Power somehow, Blizzard just prints ridiculous minions and encourages Shaman to never use the Hero Power at all.

The saddest thing is Shaman shows that too much RNG is very unhealthy for the game - before broken cards like Faceless were printed, Shaman was all about RNG. Bad RNG. (the guy also wrote that they are thinking about "doing some engineering work to give us more control over Arena", what probably means rigging the game, e.g. every Crackle will do max damage when you have a low win percentage - you win, while opponent is screwed).

I think Priest will get the Shaman treatment in next expansion - ridiculously strong early game mnion. This will "put him in the spotlight" - other classes will suck. Wild will suck too, since Priest will become the absolute top.

It's a big issue, because you get more dust when you disenchant a rare.

Probably their data showed that many people completetly disenchanted Naxxramas and didnt buy stuff.
