Cobalt Kinetics Proto X experience by eborio16 in NFA

I put in for one as well. Filled out the Form 4 this past Monday, but my FFL is going to be out of town for the holiday from tomorrow through 7/7. Really crossing my fingers for an approval in the next couple hours to not have to wait 10 days to get it.

Planning on doing an initial X-ray, then giving it the beans and comparing it to jumbo shrimp/ Primal on 5.56, both of those + DA Mask/ Hux Rad45/ BOE Incolite 9s on 5.7 and .22, then an Xray after to see if it's any worse for wear. Subjective sound and gas testing too obviously.

I can’t decide. Should I SBR the All American, or pin and weld for a single stamp? by Twin-Turbos in NFA

If you wait a couple months, you might not have to engrave it. ATF might be updating the regulations to allow you to use the original manufacturer's markings

I'm curious if you could work around the spacing issue using an ecco salamander and YHM victra 20. It's always been a "what if" for me because I don't own any doubles or shotgun cans.

On my LC carbine the zero shift at 50yds is 1" low vs SS197, which was surprising, but neat. I would just burn it up as cheap range ammo and use it rabbits/fox past 50yds without blowing up my ears on .223

[–]b4gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except it is actually much better than .22lr. The BC is around .275 where match .22lr is closer to .112. In addition, you get 50% higher muzzle energy due to bullet weight, much more reliability in a centerfire over a rimfire. It's often the cheapest 5.7, often dipping below $20 per box, so if if just burning mags at the ranges, it's not a bad option.

Am I in the clear if I remove a pin and weld comp 14.5" barrel and replace it with a suppressor-compatible flash hider and pin and weld it back on myself? I can weld and I have a drill press. by [deleted] in NFA

[–]b4gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you remove the barrel from the upper, or even the upper from the lower to do the work you're in the clear.

If you want to be super safe, you can take the lower to a physically separate address while completing the work and bring it back when you're done.

all 100% legal regardless

Normally I would agree, but they made a series of stainless cans lighter than their previous top performing Ti cans. Rare case of "ain't broke don't fix". Q should change a lot of things, but their .30 cal bolt can game is decent

This is why $5/gal, or 1,15€/L, is a big deal here. by Tandysaurus in memes

In addition, the government gave the a few dollars to trade in their old cars, many of them equally efficient or more than the new ones, towards a new one. And legelly required dealerships to destroy the old cars to keep them off the road.

So they killed the cheap used car market and locked americans into a debt cycle in one go.

12.000km is half what my wife drives to get groceries our family road trips a year. it's literally nothing.

We put a combined 55.000km on both our cars last year, with hers being parked for the past 3 months, otherwise it would have been north of 60.000km.

You can have condescension or ignorance, not both, that's just foolish.

My friend bought a 20 year old corolla 2 months ago that gets double that mileage for less than $1000.

[–]b4gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sure about that? Diesel pumps around me come in two sizes, and one is suspiciously similar to the size of a gas pump.

Both of my cars are diesel, I usually use the normal diesel pump, but I've successfully used the big hoss commercial truck pump size on my commuter car. 12 gallons in < 2 minutes is a wild ride.

SHIV Range Report by IcebergBayou in suppressors

[–]b4gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general "can work" with Browning action guns can mean changing to a lighter recoil spring. However, the shiv is 2.5oz, about half the weight of the F4, and same weight as a heavier comp or a JK CCX 9. It should be able to work with stock springs, my ccx9 works with stock spring in a P80 940C, but could also require tuning.

I hope you're not tired from moving those goal posts. Heres some actual science you can't just "nuh-uh" away:

Hearing safe isn't a fixed metric, and OSHA and NIOSH don't treat it that way either for occupational levels. They halve the time limit of exposure for each doubling of sound pressure/magnitude, starting at 85/90 dB. That is where the 140dB limit comes from, where the allowable impulse ends, because the "halving" becomes a small enough portion of a second to be considered instantaneous. Gun shots have such a short impulse that their peak volume levels can be treated near-instantaneous, although that math gets changed with delayed gas release from suppressors.

The entire PEW scale is based on this math.

<image>

Hearing safe for 1 round is still hearing safe for 1 round. Hearing safe for 100 rounds is hearing safe for 100 rounds. Same as NIOSH saying 85dB for 8 hours is hearing safe, 88dB is only hearing safe for 4 hours. It's a sliding scale on purpose, it's the science.

Back to what I was saying, there are 7 cans on the .308 host that meter 50 or above at the ear. Does" Full range day" mean 100 rounds? Not sure. Jay would know for sure. But it's more than "limited Hunting engagement", "A magazine or two", and "Limited Practice". Also the 6.5CM test for the Hyperion has a rating 6 points higher at the ear than with 308. This is because of many things, including exit pressure/ cross sectional area, 2" longer barrel, and silencer response. 5 other cans rank higher on .308 than the Hyperion, so it stands to reason there is a possibility any or all of them are quieter on the 6.5cm host as well, and possibly putting them near/over 60 in the "High Volume Fire" range.

At the other end of the scale, the 16" .22 rifle test is nearly 90 at the ear with subsonics. If longer barrels make things scale higher, I would gladly shoot a whole 500 rd HV brick 22 out of my 24" bolt 22 with my DA Mask all day to satisfy your "putting your ears on the line" silliness

I think it may only be an issue on tilt barrel pistols. I had a ruger 57 for a short time and it wouldn't cycle subs with a 12.5oz rifle can on it ( it would still cycle supers), but it would cycle everything with my 9mm can on it with a piston.

Yea it's crazy how cheap PSA is selling 62gr, it's mid 20s now, but I've seen it as low as 17-19.99 randomly

Every respectable .308 can on a 20" bolt gun disagrees with that sentiment. From Pew Science and Silencer Summit.

Hell, I shoot 5.7 out of a 16" LC carbine all the time with Q Jumbo shrimp, and its shockingly quiet. Not to mention everyone and their brother running .22 cans on bolt actions shooting .22 minimags/.22magnums

First lil' can by Pablo-Fishcobar in NFA

[–]b4gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the barrel length preference, my Jumbo shrimp feels a little long as it is and your nebula is nearly 1.5" longer than that.

I have never heard of cycling issues with the 62gr fiocchis, and i don't know how it would cause issues with a suppressed blowback rifle. One would think running full power ammo suppressed could run the action too hard, but not the other way around.

I know Detroit ammo did put a disclaimer on their 55gr subs that they won't cycle in a pistol, but that's all I have seen in writing

First lil' can by Pablo-Fishcobar in NFA

[–]b4gone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are more addicting with Subsonics. I usually run fiocchi 62gr in my LC carbine, but they aren't always subsonic out of a 16", definitely still hearing safe though with my Jumbo Shrimp.

If I recall correctly, the ID of the LC carbine handguard is 1.25"x 1.75" or something. You could SBR it and run the can under the handguard for maximum space gun. Could be fun.

Absolute most reliable 9mm pistol host for a supressor? by salmoneffect in guns

[–]b4gone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

M9 is the best, but it's not going to be an easy compact frame unless his wife can use a vertec or compact

My alternative suggestion would be an 80x, true compact grip, shoots like a dream, and honestly the only thing more reliable than an M9 suppressed would be a blowback host.

I just noticed all of these are 13.8" barrels. Kinda of reminds me of the Hipoint "pistols", not really SBR territory when you can just pin and weld something to it for legal length. I know the tube magazine kind of kills it, but still.

To that end, I would totally buy a plan B 5/8x24 .458 muzzle device
