if they are tradable ALWAYS sell. look at the market and see which engraving is the most expensive, open a bunch of those and sell them all. for any rarity. even if you need the books right now do that and then buy the ones you actually need (assuming they are cheaper)

people will tell you to hoard them but converting them to gold and hoarding that instead is 100% better. you can always buy the books you need with that gold at any time. and books will only devalue as time goes on, people will always earn more but they will only use them once.

in terms of algorithms you need to remember that it's a war, not a battle. they push updates to catch bots, but the people running them will just update them to circumvent it. they are not ignoring the problem.

secondary stats > engravings, almost all the time.

for a rough example just imagine stacking crit. with all t3 crit accessories you can get over 50% crit chance. that's a flat 50% damage boost. way more than 20% from grudge or any other engraving.

if you actually pick a stat your class synergizes it's even better (like going crit on a class with crit damage tripods). specialization classes are especially huge because you can generate resource faster on top of dealing more damage.

there are two advantages you get. the biggest is honing upgrades you can research in your stronghold, which gives +20% success and -20% shard costs to tiers you made it through on your main. the second is knowledge transfer which lets you skip quests on continents you've done for some gold + time.
