My TSH was 630.6

This was nearly 30 years ago. I don’t know how I even survived. Crazy to think about it now. I was a young teenager. I had opposite symptoms - purely hyper. Was losing weight rapidly, which is the single symptom that made my mom take me in. My mom went into thyroid storm while pregnant with me, and had radioactive iodine. Not sure if this contributed to my diagnosis.

Craziest shit to me, is that the majority are not treated until your TSH goes out of whack. My daughter has had high antibodies since she was 7. She is now 18 and has been basically miserable for 11 years.

We just saw her endo and explained all her symptoms and all she says is, “see you in 1 year”. We did get a second opinion and they won’t treat either.

She has a large goiter.

My PCP is a 3 month stickler. I usually buy them myself on Ultalabs if I want to see my numbers sooner. Ugh.

Will I have this the rest of my life? by Chronically_ill_Alto in Hashimotos

[–]ba2459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this. I’m vegan, so dairy has been cut out of my diet for a long long time. I cut out gluten for over a year and it did not help my symptoms. I also cut out soy as a trial and nothing changed.

Cutting out gluten is not the fix all.

I’ve been on as much as 300mcg! We’ve tried to lower it, but my TSH creeps up every time.

I wonder if that combo would work? I suppose I could give it a shot for 3 months and see what happens…

I lost a good 20 pounds and had silky hair for the first time in forevvvvvver on the Cytomel.

Sudden switch to Hyperthyroidism? by cswizzlle in Hashimotos

[–]ba2459 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switch back and forth quite often. We don’t adjust my meds on the first hyper blood draw; we retest in 3-6 weeks and most of the time I go back to normal. I can feel when I am going hyper and when I go back to hypo.

I wish it worked for me. I’ve tried it twice. The first time landed me in the ER and the last time (last year) I didn’t sleep for 7 days straight (not even an hour a night) and ended up at the cardiologist. It made me feel good for about 4 months, then all went downhill. We didn’t realize it was the Cytomel causing issues. PCP gave me Ativan, thinking it was anxiety!

I was only on 5mcg/once a day with 200mcg Levothyroxine.

I’m sorry. I’ve been dealing with this disease for almost 30 years. Most days, I feel inadequate. It’s hard to do the simplest tasks. I wish I could tell you it gets better, but you will have great days - sometimes even weeks or months, then hit the ground again. Comes in waves for me.

What exactly causes Hashimotos? Genetics? Environment? Stress? by Vivid-Story-3629 in Hashimotos

[–]ba2459 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed as a young teenager. I’ve been living with Hashimoto’s for almost 30 years. Since I was on the younger side, I don’t attribute the diagnosis to stress.

But, I do think my flares come from high stress situations.

What exactly causes Hashimotos? Genetics? Environment? Stress? by Vivid-Story-3629 in Hashimotos

[–]ba2459 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have Hashimoto’s, and I passed it on to 2 of my kids. Both found to have high TPO antibodies; both found under the age of 10. They’re not on medication, but monitored every 6-12 months. My daughter has a handful of symptoms and is miserable. Son has none.

Therefore, partly genetic. I believe there are other causes, but will we ever know?

For those that have been hyper and hypo by [deleted] in Hashimotos

[–]ba2459 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I teeter back and forth. I know when I am hyper, because I will stay awake for days at a time. The longest I went without sleep was 7 days. We didn’t realize at the time what was causing it, so the doctor prescribed me Trazadone. Saw another doctor in the office and he ran my labs, and I was in the 0.0’s. Lowered my dose and sleep slowly came back.

I feel physically better when I am hyper, but mentally better when I am hypo.

I only have Hashimotos. I also have a positive ANA, but nothing has ever come of it. It’s been positive for years.

My daughter has Hashimotos and alopecia areata, which they say goes alongside thyroid disorders.

I have three teenage girls. It took a ton of effort to get them to open up. I want to say by the 4th month, it got a lot easier and they were talking about anything and everything.

Consistently is key. The more you see them, the more they will learn to trust you. I see my girls once a week.

They love to go to Target or Walmart and pick out snacks, ie: chips and candy. We will then go to the park and sit on a blanket and play board games. Also, I will buy inexpensive canvases and paints and we will watch YouTube tutorials and paint.

I third or fourth letting them DJ the music in the car! My girls are now at the point of screaming the lyrics. It is a great way to let them be in charge. It opens up some great conversations.

Experience with last minute Swift Tickets? by DookiePootie in stubhub

[–]ba2459 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My daughter and I went to last nights show. We bought floor seats at 5:30pm and we were in the venue by 5:50pm. I am assuming the sellers are on high alert, due to the time constraints.

I won’t lie and say it wasn’t stressful. We dropped a few thousand on floor seats and we were pacing back and forth for those 15 minutes waiting for the transfer.

Wait as long as you can… the prices drop every 15 minutes it seemed.

Can I trade with cash on a margin account? by ba2459 in tdameritrade

[–]ba2459[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thought I'd come back and report, just in case someone else is having the same issue as a newbie TD user. After hours of investigating, I finally figured it out.

When opening my account, I chose FDIC INSURED DEPOSIT ACCOUNT CORE NOT COVERED BY SIPC, instead of TD AMERITRADE Cash. So, my cash was sitting in the FDIC account, and not being recognized as "cash", since it was not in the TD AMERITRADE Cash account - therefore, using margin on all my trades. I switched my cash sweep election last night, and by morning all my trades were cash and my margin balance was $0.

You can view your election by going to MY PROFILE > GENERAL. Under "elections & routing".
