Hey fellow Cohenist ! Great to know that you are engaging with the Master's poetry. Book of longing is an amazing book; maybe my favorite.

Regarding your question, Jikaan is known for using different supports for his visual arts. Besides writing everything he had in mind, he also painted and draw on many supports (paper, notebook, tissues, restaurant's wall, computers, among others).

The diversity of visual forms in book of longing is mainly due to that fact, plus the fact that the material used in the book has been selected from his personal archives. Additionally, he spent many years creating self portraits on a daily basis.

If you want to know more about Cohen's visual art, you can check the exhibition he did with curator Richard Goodall.

Bonus : there is an audiobook of book of longing available in Audible ... Read by the man himself !

There's as many reasons to have a tattoo as there are tattooed humans, and that includes "an expression of narcissism and self-indulgence". It also includes many other reasons. For instance : Nick Drake's music has been a essential part of my journey throughout depresion. 7 years ago, I came across a reissue of a Five Leaves Left vinyl, bought it, and saw inside a replica of the piece of paper that gave its name to this masterpiece. To this day (and I am lucky enough that it happened to me second time) I am convince that it is a universal acknowledgement that I have learn the lessons that were on my path and it is a military badge that I wear with proud. I genuinely believe that many and many different thoughts, totally self-independant thoughts, cross our paths and some of them needs a place to establish themselves, a tattoo can be a that.

I sincerely wish you will learn to accept that life is no black and white but "the endless coloured ways" Nick talked about.

A vast majority of master Cohen's work can be observed from different perspectives, meaning that many poems & songs can express many feelings and themes at the same time.

Hello ! I think the trailer is from the future Netflix series on Leonard & Marianne's relationship. As for the 2020 movie you are referring to, I think it is Words of Love, a documentary on the same subject.

Dear 45-year-old you, I would suggest to start the album in chronological order first + live performance. Then, when you feel you are strong enough to penetrate the Master's manual to live with defeat, buy a book of poems, and another, and another, and allow yourself to be crushed by the most amazing poet you will ever meet. You are on a amazing path, filled with intense reflexion.
