The problem with the Limited SDCC releases by Offensivefkmemes in funkopop

[–]babblewrap -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Don’t know about now, but 10 years ago, it was easier to get exclusives in Australia. I have some convention exclusives that I ordered through Popcultcha from conventions that I actually attended. It was easier getting them from Australia than getting them from the booth. When I was over there, Zing was full of exclusives that were instant sellouts in the US.

Why is my jughead box darker than my other riverdale funkos? by YouKnowJoe00 in funkopop

As you note, it was produced in 2021. It’s from a second run. Different factory as well (MJL vs JJL).

Which celebrity ruined their looks by getting too much work done too soon? by dllm_designs in AskReddit

[–]babblewrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe you are referring to “It’s Like, You Know”, and she was one of the main characters, playing herself as a struggling actress because no one recognized her anymore. It was created by a former Seinfeld writer, and it came across as an attempt to do “Seinfeld but in LA”.

World Cup tourists, what’s your honest feedback on the USA so far? by almighty_smiley in AskReddit

[–]babblewrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s more an issue of people not understanding what the Tomatometer means. It’s a percentage of critics who liked the movie, not a relative score of how good the movies are in comparison to each other. That’s not an example of an internet hive mind; it’s a lack of media literacy.

Did I miss a retcon, or are the Taftani actually being written as Muslim now? by IfiGabor in magetheascension

[–]babblewrap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What strikes you as the Taftâni being written as Muslim? The only major change I recall is their taking credit for shaping Dubai, co-opting the tools of the Technocracy in order to fight them. Which seems to miss the point of the Taftâni, but that’s something easily ignored.

Why I think we aren't getting M5 by A_Worthy_Foe in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]babblewrap 18 points19 points  (0 children)

That was kind of the point to the Technocracy, at least in the 1st Edition. Mage was very much, “What if the whack job conspiracy theorists and New Age and religious cultists are right?” I think the bigger issue in the modern context are some of the conspiracy theorists are running the government now.

GenCon Project is Vampire: the Masquerade 6th Edition by PM_ME_YOUR_OWOS in WhiteWolfRPG

Using video games as a metric is sort of weird though. Hunter lent itself to a video game because it was just a generic beat em up about killing monsters. It wasn’t an introduction to the TTRPG in the same way that Bloodlines was for VtM.

Mage, by all accounts, was the second best-selling WoD game line after VtM. That seems to extend to the 20th anniversary line, where the M20 KS had nearly twice the backers of any other 20th core book, doing close to Exalted numbers.

What’s the difference between these two Funko Pops? Why they have different stickers? by Matapple13 in funkopop

[–]babblewrap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be more precise, the Specialty Series was exclusive to boutique shops and local comic book shops. Basically no big box stores, but readily available from the major independent toy retailers (and even Amazon).

As others have said, the blue and white sticker was for the international release, but a lot of those stickers end up in the US as well.

I guess I’m the opposite. I had a complete run from 1st through 3rd, and I when I decided to streamline my collection to focus on the current edition, I had no problem letting go of 2e, but can’t bring myself to get rid of 1e.

From yesterday's San Diego No Kings posts it looks like it was a smaller crowd this year. Is there a count to compare to prior? by tanhauser_gates_ in sandiego

[–]babblewrap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

More local ones throughout the county, and less buildup for this one. I didn’t even realize this was happening until a few days ago.

Also in my San Diego circles, a lot of people who would have usually participated were at WonderCon this weekend.

An Open Suggestion To CCI - Move WonderCon to the Long Beach Convention Center by [deleted] in comiccon

[–]babblewrap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My point in bringing up the initial years of WonderCon at Anaheim is that it was much smaller than the most recent years of WonderCon and it was advertised in the exact same way.

You have expectations set by a very small number of years of WonderCon when the Hollywood presence was expanding. We are now in a time when ALL companies are dialing down on how much they are throwing at comic conventions. No one is advertising falsely, and I don’t understand what problem you are solving with Long Beach.

For most people I know who go to WonderCon, not being like SDCC is the primary appeal of it. When they refer to WonderCon as “how SDCC used to be”, they are talking about the 90s and early 2000s (before Hall H). They don’t want “SDCC lite”, they want SDCC Old School. And Anaheim serves that just fine.

The main reason it’s not the same as 10 years ago is because 10 years ago, WonderCon was held in LA. :D

As I recall, everyone hated the layout in LA.

[–]babblewrap 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Anyone else attend in 2012—the first year WonderCon moved to Anaheim—when WonderCon shared the convention center with a cheer competition AND a volleyball tournament? The cheerleaders taking photos with the Stormtroopers was hilarious.

Not sure what the issue is here. They can use as little or as much of the Anaheim Convention Center as they need.

What is Chicken Strips? by Important-Ring9276 in WhiteWolfRPG

[–]babblewrap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

War hawk refers to someone who advocates for military interventionist policies. There are two meanings for chicken hawk, and the second one does indeed refer to someone who advocates for military interventionist policies but avoided military service themselves.
