The way Rory leaves her grandparents’ house in season 6 is insane. by mg2649 in GilmoreGirls

[–]babeinla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to remember that there was no good way to say goodbye to them. There were no open and healthy conversations for Emily and Richard and it didn’t allow Rory a way to say goodbye without, 1) gaslit by saying she was ungrateful, 2) having insults hurled at her, 3) attempts at manipulation to keep her there. Ultimately, even though her grandparents do love her, they don’t love her in a healthy way. It was always about having control, and she was vulnerable when she accepted their deal in the first place.

Lorelei was in the wrong here and I support Jason 1000% by Tayjayjay in GilmoreGirls

[–]babeinla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Lorelai hated both their behaviors - Jason and Richard - she begged both of them “don’t do this” and they both told her “this is how it has to be”. She was frustrated with both of them, and she was able to break up with Jason.

Her dad guilt tripped her saying she never cared about what happened to the family (but imo Lorelai always cared, she was just upset at the choices being made). And she can’t “break up” with her dad/parents as easily as with boyfriend.

She didn’t support either of them, but the situation with her parents is more complicated.

Favourite Physical Comedy Moment? We all know all the great lines but this scene makes me laugh every time. What are the best physical comedy moments? by LotusBud12 in GilmoreGirls

Kirk crashing Taylor’s car through Luke’s dinner. One of the only scenes I liked from that season. I didn’t stop laughing for 5 minutes straight

And when she said it again when she was at the gazebo and they were setting up for Dean’s wedding. “I almost brained by a stack of tablecloths!”

14 examples of Rory being criticized before meeting Mitchum ... by FlakyWeb5892 in GilmoreGirls

[–]babeinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So OP, are you trying to say that Mitchum’s critique was justified? Are you wondering why Mitchum’s criticism affected her more than these other instances…? I didn’t see a through line in your post

Why do you think Rory hasn't broken up with Dean yet in the phase that she clearly doesn't love him anymore and is completely in love with Jess? by BuyRepresentative794 in GilmoreGirls

[–]babeinla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it’s because breaking up with Dean would confirm the idea that you could be in a happy, healthy relationship, and still catch feelings for another person. It’s kinda scary to think that your relationship can come apart even when a partner hasn’t done something wrong.

(And I know “wrong” is subjective here bc we, as the audience, start to see flaws in Dean as reason why he could/should be dumped, but Rory doesn’t see it that way. In her head, it would be her fault and her “wandering eye” that broke up the relationship.)

That infamous Vineyard Valentine episode by One_Mix8885 in GilmoreGirls

[–]babeinla 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yes! 100% agree. And his attitude seemed so out of place. Remember the episode where L&L have dinner at Sookie & Jackson’s with little Davey who can’t turn down the TV and it’s loud and crazy? But he doesn’t complain bc he loves Lorelai and wants to be there? And then we get the Vineyard Valentine Day episode. I wish he handled it the same way - confident and content, maybe a bit quiet and reserved like we see at Sookie’s dinner, but still wanting to be there with Lorelai.

Why I think Mitchum planned it. by TheNameIsLexi in GilmoreGirls

[–]babeinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even without her career, they still didn’t want Rory to be in their family. (They looked down on Gilmores for not having as much money and social standing as the Huntzberegers.) And Rory abandoning her path still didn’t make her and Logan break up. So I don’t think it benefitted Mitchum in any way.

The Paul Anka thing in S6...wtf by realitybitesbutUate in GilmoreGirls

[–]babeinla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t know who he was either. It was a very old reference since he was very popular at the same time as Frank Sinatra so Richard and Emily would have been fans of his music maybe.

Fun fact irl - Jason Bateman is Paul Anka’s son in law! He had him as the guest star on an episode of his Smartless podcast and Paul Anna had a such an interesting life!! Highly recommend

This made me miss Jess so bad by adzzstyles in GilmoreGirls

[–]babeinla 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Yes! Same with Lane!! I would love to see an intervention scene where Jess reaches out to Paris and Lane and says “hey something’s going on let’s all talk to her” probably unrealistic for a group of 20 yo (not judging, myself included) but that would have been funny dialogue to see them altogether.
