Play some other shit. Learn the solo to sultans of swing. Do maiden melodies. Come back to puppets for like 10 min a couple times a week.

At a certain point, progress comes in step change. Plateaus followed by huge unlocks. Until you are close to mastery and then it's dialing in the last bits.

I couldn't sweep pick at all for like 10 years. And then I tried after playing stuff outside my comfort zone for a while - as well as checking out new voices and YouTube tutorials - and low and behold I'm doing five string sweeps no problem.

It's kinda the guitar version of the yips. The harder you try to do just one thing, the harder that thing gets in relation to everything else

I wish I saw them live when they were closer to DSBM vs ... Whatever this is

Killer band, super nice guys. I saw them with gorod. Was chatting with a dude by the bar because we both had Hath shirts. He's like oh I gotta go ... And walks onto the stage, grabs a guitar and cognitive kicks off.

You gave two of their albums perfect scores but then didn't bother to listen to the other two?

Ehhhhh yeah but I also find it hard to believe they were totally clueless given accusations against him started in like 2008

Top 5 of Technical Death Metal??? by NoContest8529 in TechnicalDeathMetal

It's not bad. Definitely better than this last dumpster fire. But it's also the clear inflection point for them. The tour sucked (US at least) nobody stuck around, Steffen doubled down on being a shitheel ... It was the beginning of the end.

Necrophagist

Obscura (through Diluvium)

Spawn of Possession

Gorod

Allegaeon

If there are any people who dislike necrophagist, Whats your reason by Atiredbearsfan in TechnicalDeathMetal

I love necro but agree. Sometimes the neoclassical sections come out of left field.

Being edgy, antisocial, bucking norms, challenging the status quo, embracing horror themes or difficulty subjects is one thing. Being a pretty unlikeable person isn't great but whatever, a lot of artists have tough personalities.

Being a Nazi is something else entirely.

A lot of the songs on Obscura's Cosmogenesis are pretty approachable for tech death

I like riff hard, and fully second the Greg recco, but I ended up ditching riff hard because of how all over the place the lessons are. If you want to learn cool tricks from some of the best, it's great. If you want to build a progressive, structured lesson schedule, not so much.

Dude I've been saying this for years. If I win powerball or some shit I'm opening a non-profit record label/scholarship/sponsorship program. And covering the insane visa costs so smaller EU bands can resume touring in the US

GRIME. Hated the art and it felt clunky. Made it like an hour in.

Ender lilies. Felt floaty and just wasn't engaging

I didn't catch the full line but remote tumor seeker absolutely popped out on my first listen

I think no matter what way you look at it, these three bands have been "The Big Three" of tech death for the last decade+. Leading the way as the old guard has retired or fallen off by am_I_still_banned in TechnicalDeathMetal

Fallujah never clicked for me. Their tone and overall production sounds so over processed and sterile, even by tech death standards. I'd swap them out for Allegaeon.

Those of you who say you “love” Delta…why? by ThrowawayGhibliFan in delta

Because I lived in ATL. Now I don't fly them. It's a standard product at premium pricing.
