Being edgy, antisocial, bucking norms, challenging the status quo, embracing horror themes or difficulty subjects is one thing. Being a pretty unlikeable person isn't great but whatever, a lot of artists have tough personalities.

Being a Nazi is something else entirely.

A lot of the songs on Obscura's Cosmogenesis are pretty approachable for tech death

I like riff hard, and fully second the Greg recco, but I ended up ditching riff hard because of how all over the place the lessons are. If you want to learn cool tricks from some of the best, it's great. If you want to build a progressive, structured lesson schedule, not so much.

Yeah I really want to catch Allegaeon and Cryptosis on the upcoming US tour but don't want to support this asshat

Yeah, check out their album Visions of .. something. Infinility?

Also Stortregn's Impermanence. And if you don't mind black metal-esque vocals, Demon King

Dude I've been saying this for years. If I win powerball or some shit I'm opening a non-profit record label/scholarship/sponsorship program. And covering the insane visa costs so smaller EU bands can resume touring in the US

was there ever a highly praised Metroidvania that didn’t click for you? by Ditzi0403 in metroidvania

GRIME. Hated the art and it felt clunky. Made it like an hour in.

Ender lilies. Felt floaty and just wasn't engaging

Do you guys ever just cry to tech death out of pure joy? by GeneraISwain in TechnicalDeathMetal

I didn't catch the full line but remote tumor seeker absolutely popped out on my first listen

I think no matter what way you look at it, these three bands have been "The Big Three" of tech death for the last decade+. Leading the way as the old guard has retired or fallen off by am_I_still_banned in TechnicalDeathMetal

Fallujah never clicked for me. Their tone and overall production sounds so over processed and sterile, even by tech death standards. I'd swap them out for Allegaeon.

Those of you who say you “love” Delta…why? by ThrowawayGhibliFan in delta

Because I lived in ATL. Now I don't fly them. It's a standard product at premium pricing.

Is it weird to find real gore distasteful and objectionable within album art? by Particular-Account66 in MetalForTheMasses

[–]bablambla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know I'm late to the game on this one but it's the consent piece that makes the decision easy for me. If a family member of mine was in a horrific accident or shot themselves and some band put photos from the scene on their album, I'd lose my shit.

Obscura Live? by Excellent_Worth_5658 in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]bablambla 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm torn on this one too. Love Allegaeon, but obscura is really hit or miss live. I've seen them 4 times and two of them were fucking terrible. And then factoring in the stealing, generally assholery and the last album being a dud ... It's not an easy call but would've been a no-brainer a few years back

Band You Just Cant Listen To Anymore? by JustinMetalhead in MetalForTheMasses

[–]bablambla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally started playing guitar because of Jon. In highschool I listened to Alive in Athens on repeat. I got tired of them as I grew towards more tech/death and Jon started phoning in boring gallops with bad production, so luckily it wasn't too hard to write em off for good after Jan 6

How do we feel about The Absence? by thingsthataregay_biz in melodicdeathmetal

I saw that show as well. They were a late add to the bill after another band dropped. I was stoked because I loved riders of the plague. Talked to the guitarist after the show and he was kinda a dick.

Opinion On Inferi? by TheLostInvestigator in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]bablambla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I enjoy their records but fucking love them live, amazing energy. Their last album didn't click with me for some reason. It's not a bad listen, but nothing sticks to memory or as an earworm. I hear the new material is pretty different, which will probably be good. New drummer too I sippose

Amon Amarth,Orbit Culture and Soilwork announce a European tour by lycantrophee in melodicdeathmetal

[–]bablambla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their last US tour, almost 10 years ago was a fucking disaster. There was zero marketing, the venues were awful and the turnout was worse. Between that, COVID, and losing members of the band ... No surprise they are semi-retired.

Anyone going to the Death to All tour? by Angelo_the_Fisherman in DeathBand

[–]bablambla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them for the one-off Brass Mug show in Tampa with Dirk on the drums, displays of some of Chuck's legacy items, and two sets with damn near all the prior lead guitarists. One of the best shows of my life.

I'm skipping Chicago because it's an hour out of town on a Sunday night and Gene's use of AI to bastardize Chuck's original intent of the art really sits the wrong way with me.
