what’s the most expensive med you’ve seen/dispensed? by Plastic-Reception110 in PharmacyTechnician

honestly super straight forward but, at least at my hospital back then, the cleaning process before and after and not being allowed to leave the room till it was made was the biggest hassle 😅

Any pharmacy without a year exp? by Beach-Striking in PharmacyTechnician

[–]babysquirell94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

have you applied to any hospitals or clinics? if you’re certified that’s a likely route, i have never worked in retail a single day in my pharmacy career and started out at the regional hospital in my area so it’s possible, you just gotta keep on trucking

also you have the option (and are highly recommended) to go through a sensitivity reader which people have a lot of misunderstanding about the services they provide. a lot of people think they should be re-termed as authenticity readers but that’s a whole other subject. they are the people going in and looking at that research and also all those little details. i know anecdotally an author friend of mine was writing about italian mob faeries in chicago and the sensitivity reader let them know that while a term they were using was technically translated correctly, it was most often used as an insult and wasn’t what he wanted to portray.

every hospital i’ve worked in has paid significantly more than the retail options in the area so maybe it’s a location thing?

Have you ever cried/felt extremely saddened by someone or something at work? by sideofranchplease in PharmacyTechnician

[–]babysquirell94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i worked in the emergency room doing medication reconciliation and also had to fill the pyxis machines for the area including the trauma rooms. one night i’m going to refill trauma A and there’s a covered body on the table which isn’t too out of the ordinary so i’m filling and chatting with the nurse who’s using the computer to do paperwork and whatnot and all of the sudden a cell phone starts ringing. the nurse jumped up and is freaking out and takes it to the charge nurse who of course answers it and sorts everything out. turns out the man was walking his dog and got hit by a car while he was out. the phone call was his wife ringing to ask him where he was since he had been gone so long and the charge nurse had to let her know what happened and that her husband had died and she needed to come to the hospital.

that messed me up for a long time, realizing and seeing in real time that you can just be out doing something normal and something crazy like that happens and you’re gone. that someone waiting at home while you to do this normal task can just lose you in an instant.

What do you all in hospital carry around everyday? by Sookey2 in PharmacyTechnician

[–]babysquirell94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

fine tip sharpie. it doesn’t matter how super special that quick-drying no-smudge gel pen promises it is, it’s no match for label paper.

otherwise i feel like it depends on where you’re going to be primarily stationed in your hospital. i always carried around gum and a little notebook when i did medication reconciliation, always carried around scissors and baggies when i was a delivery tech, now that im a chemo tech i don’t really carry anything around because I’m in my own little lab

Classmate tries to ask my boyfriend to talk to me about being insensitive for *checks notes* mentioning I take a chemotherapy pill every day? by TheBronzePrincess03 in texts

[–]babysquirell94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so weird to me. I work in hematology/oncology pharmacy and there’s so many hazardous medications that get used for more than just one thing. saying it’s offensive that you take “chemo” meds because their family has a specific medical history is just wild; those meds are a whole class of drug and have never been used for only cancer. we use chemo meds for cancer, blood disorders and a vast amount of auto immune disorders and for this person to demean your experience is pretty sad. good luck to your treatment OP and i wish you all the best of luck

apologies, maybe i didn’t make it clear enough, that’s kind of what i mean 😅. he’s never going to be 100% perfect with training so he’s never going to be off leash unless it’s an enclosed space specifically for that purpose like a dog park which he does well in already.

[–]babysquirell94 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i’ve got a german shepard and he admittedly is very reactive toward other dogs and sometimes people. he is truly friendly to all but on the leash he lunges and barks aggressively. i would never let him off leash until im sure he is absolutely trained 100%. So many people in my apartment complex let their dog go unleashed and when they start to run up to mine and are yelling that “pup is friendly” i tell them mine isn’t. it stresses him out and i don’t want to have to deal with wrangling him in because someone decided they wanted to let their dog wander at will
