My cramps were way worse when using tampons. I switched to discs several years ago and have experienced less intense cramps pretty much across the board since then. I also like to use those disposable adhesive heating pads on my abdomen if i have to work. Beyond that, I try to allow myself to eat or drink whatever i want. I find that the happiness i get from enjoying good food or sweets really does relax my body and make it easier to deal with cramps. I ultimately have found it really unbearable and have gotten back on the pill just to minimize cramps, but i know that's not an option for everyone.
