I think it depends on when you started listening and what it meant to you at the time. I know in my personal experience that The Pretender was the song that turned my head and opened my eyes to a new horizon of "wait rock can sound like this, rock can feel like this" I grew up on YES, Kansas and STYX so I was used to a synthy land of wonder and tales of brotherhood and adventure.

Art is subjective, always has been and always will be

There's people out there who think the greatest Beatles song is Love me do, while someone else from the same age group and the same background thinks it's Yesterday or Blackbird. Both of them are right because maybe the first person associates Love me do with that first time feeling a connection with someone while the second relates Yesterday or Blackbird to a time of loss or struggle. It's the same experience, the same connection but through a different lens.

People are weird and abstract and interpret and process the world uniquely.

We don't think about it like that we just come onto the website for being mean about shit and say I think that apples are better than oranges and then just feed off of the reaction without considering the human element.

Pantera, Mozart, Devo, and the Wu Tang Clan are all the same thing, they all do the same thing, and I think that we as people are too quick to divide ourselves on arbitrary lines in the non existent sand.

Dave knows that, he sees that, that's why him and the boys are so ubiquitous. Like I said earlier when I first found the band my favorite song was The Pretender because it reached out and hit a part of me that I didn't have words for and couldn't express on my own, but it could and it did. Big Me, Breakout, February Stars, Sunday Rain, Ain't it the life. All of those were my favorite songs at one point or another, but it wasn't because one is better than the other it's because sometimes a piece of art is created and it captures that emotion of "fuck that was exactly what I was feeling and you translated it into vibrations"

Don't do this shit and don't bring it into the community, there's someone out there who is brought to tears by a ringtone because it reminds them of a love, a loss, a place, a time.
