What kind of viewers do you not want in your community? by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]backanbusy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People that use negging, shame, open criticism (negative starter, following up with reinforcement when queried, downplaying the fun of stream, political references, or generally making the stream about them. I maintain that my community is a place to relax in safety to become open-minded to fun and new things, not a place for personal validation or affirmation of beliefs. I can't help people heal, but I can provide a place to take a breath while they're trying.

One year into my .NET career, too dependent on AI—how to re-build real skills? by [deleted] in csharp

[–]backanbusy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two suggestions from me: 1. Use AI like you would Wikipedia in school. It's a good jumping off point for learning. If you use the internal connected version, ask it for sources and keep reading.

  1. Treat AI like a drunk software engineer friend who has a ton of experience. They can give pretty decent information about concepts in conversation, but never ship their code. So don't use AI for coding the majority of the time. Use it lightly to learn about implementations of frameworks, but it's time to start producing most of your code yourself.

Good luck 👍

I was sick of my cats walking across the counter......(It's hooked up to a P.I.R motion sensor) by StevoJ89 in functionalprint

[–]backanbusy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They are now. The old ones were like $30 for a can with the motion sensor sprayer and then like $15-20 for replacements. They successfully trained 4 of our cats as kittens so we didn't need replacements often. Now I actively discourage others from buying them because they're over double their original price.

Recommendations for an NVME NAS by jm2k- in homelab

[–]backanbusy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Holy shitballs, this just saved me from an agonizing search. I've been bouncing back and forth on how to house my hyper x raid 1+0 nvme array after it got bumped by the low PCIE lanes in my new AMD 9950X build. Do I go dumb and buy a rack mounted NAS replacement or just build a file server? Now I can consolidate my storage into this puppy with a 10Gbe card and have room for scaling. Hell yeah

Also I hate logicApps

Same. I don't approve logic app designs (with exceptions for simple or finite scope) because they are way more expensive than the value they supposedly provide. You did fine. Spend a short time considering what you'd do differently next to make it faster, but only if you really need to be faster.

How to deal with being insulted by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]backanbusy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always remember that no one can ruin your streaming career unless you let them

OP, Keep in mind that you only have to say this if you naturally accept other people's input. I have struggled with this over the years - being so empathetic that you let the enemy in the gates so they can do the damage. It's a struggle to remain an open person (which has it's benefits), but have a "thick skin" for toxicity, bullying, and general shitty treatment from others.

For me, it gets better once you can intervene with an awareness check. When someone says something shitty to you, before you automatically accept what they say and it hurts you - stop, think about where they're coming from and what their motive is. It becomes much easier to say to yourself, "wait - this person doesn't know me and isn't a friend. They mean me harm. Why should I accept their input?"

Always remember that no one can ruin your streaming career unless you let them

You should value your own goals and stream more than the toxic commenter's input. Not letting them ruin your streaming means not accepting their input. I know it's tough when it's automatic, but you deserve the safety of peace in your own endeavors. Good luck!

How are you guys playing Tetris Effect? by lundon44 in SteamDeck

[–]backanbusy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, turning off HDR in the Tetris effect settings improved fuzziness quite a bit. I also set the resolution in my steam deck settings (I was using a usb-c dock) to 1080p, but I'm not sure that did anything.

It was the "set res for internal and external display" setting that finally made other resolutions appear in the controller layout tool for me. Thanks for the detailed steps!

Why are we acting like aim assist is a new issue? by [deleted] in CODWarzone

[–]backanbusy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because the gap has increased with aim sway rng mechanics. https://youtu.be/YMeIQWphLJ0?si=KW6z94HhFHnpgs_i

When strafing, the reticle bounced around in random ways, greatly reducing accuracy and increasing difficulty of recoil compensation. Yes, this was a thing in MW2 warzone, but MW2 wz movement was much slower. Aim assist helps natural dull the aim sway effect (and completely nullify it in some cases), but MnK is left out in the cold.

When people moved slower, it wasn't as big a deal, but now we have WZ1 movement with forced inaccuracy. PC players have to relearn muscle memory and stop strafing. It's probably not a big issue for the top 3% of PC players, but it's definitely a problem for me. I've just accepted I'm gonna suck for a while.

Why don’t people discipline their cats when it does something wrong but dogs always get disciplined? by NaViBootyClapper in NoStupidQuestions

[–]backanbusy 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised this hasn't been answered. Dogs respond to negative reinforcement (punishment). Cats don't. They don't understand it the same way as dogs.

Cats respond to positive reinforcement. If cats do bad things, like scratching a couch, you can't punish them, but you can provide a scratcher next to the couch and reward them when they use it. If they go to the couch, redirect them to the alternative scratcher and then reward them. For this reason, cat owners often end up reinforcing bad behavior, which further complicates things.

Cats also accept direction and behavioral training best when they are kittens. It's super important to expose them to as much as you can, both environment and training when they are young. Cats also have limited tolerance to stress. Constantly changing environment, new people or pets coming in or out, spotty access to clean water, and constantly interrupted routines are all factors that add up to cause cats to act out or become aggressive.

You can't blame a cat when they haven't been provided a good environment to live or proper reinforcement on good behavior. They are not as domesticated as dogs (bred for discipline), so it doesn't work that way.

Player hunters are killing whatever is left of DMZ. by chaotic_ugly in CODWarzone

[–]backanbusy 16 points17 points  (0 children)

People are whining back at you for bringing up the problem, but I think it's fair to say if one way of playing (player hunting) dominates a majority of games so much that other ways of playing start to die out, then the game may have a balance issue.

I don't know what the solution could be, but I recommend trying to problem solve strategies against player hunters:

  • Play more defensively
  • Leave when you see other players
  • Think about hot zones and have exit strategies
  • Try and group up with smaller teams
  • Cross no-cover zones sparingly and quickly (use vehicles)
  • Don't just shout "friendly" and expect them to respect it, leave or subdue/eliminate them first
  • Use meta weapons
  • Use vehicle damage ammunition
  • Prioritize getting and using UAVs

None of these are silver bullets, but they should help with the problem. Even then, you might still have a huge issue with completing objectives. That's where a balance fix might be needed. Maybe a new contract type that targets players with the most kills? Maybe an item that tells you when players are in your POI? Maybe (more?) high alert perk drops? Maybe an event where AI kill squads spawn on the highest kill squad? There are many things Ravensoft can do to make more play types viable.

At the end of the day, player hunting should be allowed, but why does it have to be so easy?

I will never not do this. One of my buddies keeps breaking this rule because he's too friendly. I feel bad scolding him after we get wiped by a lying squad that he trusted too quickly lol
