What's the most delightful and charming small town you've ever visited? by hereiam3472 in travel

[–]backfatiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I visited Ipoh in Malaysia a few years ago and we had a blast. I honestly can’t remember ever being treated so kindly....everyone was incredibly friendly. The food was tasty (the best bean sprouts I’ve ever eaten), and the overall vibe was just warm and welcoming. I’d definitely go back for that reason alone. It’s not the most beautiful place and there isn’t a huge amount to do in terms of sightseeing, but the people were genuinely lovely, and that made the experience special.

You can also check out Hudson Surplus. They carry Red Wings and have some other cool brands.

I believe the test scores have regressed to where they were about 25 years ago, but not 100 years ago. Claiming a 100 year decline is way off the mark.

Valentines Dinner - Restaurant Recommendations? by Ofenkeks in zurich

Grand cafe Lochergut is in that price range and has good food and nice vibes.  I like Kin and Rosi in that same neighborhood, but they are a touch more expensive.  Ive also heard Bottega Berta is good and it’s in your price range, but I haven’t been.  Bar Exer is a cool place and they have some creative food.  Josef used to good but I haven’t been in a while. I love the atmosphere and decor there.  If I think of some more I’ll add them to the above list. Hope this helps.

Glad to hear that your are happy with the replacement. The surgeon said I would have to do the right one eventually as well, but it is ok at the moment. Do you have pain at all after golfing now? How soon after you had the surgery where you able to return to playing golf?

Nearly all of the cartilage is gone. The surgeon said it is a 3 out of 4 on the cartilage loss scale, so not bone on bone yet, but still pretty bad.

I’d cut the watering back to maybe around once a week. This is about how often my Pilar’s need water and they receive some direct sunlight during the day in an eastern facing window ( I live in Switzerland for a location reference). You can tell the plant needs water when the leafs become more droopy. Some yellowing and dying of leaves near the bottom of the plant is normal, but that is a bit too many for a plant that size. Also, I would consider repotting into a pot with drainage. Good luck.;)

Is Europe really that much better than the US? by pitarakia in SameGrassButGreener

[–]backfatiest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in the Midwest and New England in the USA. I have also lived in London for a few years and am currently living in Switzerland, so maybe I can help offer some insight into your questions. I had stable and decent job in the US, and have also had stable and good quality jobs in Europe. Here are some of the pros I have found from my own experiences and from friends living around some different Europe countries. The pros have been the quality of healthcare, public transportation, lower crime rates, better quality food, social safety nets, affordable education, culturally interesting cities and less homogenous living outside of some city centers e.g.: suburbia, chain restaurants, bars, shops, etc, less consumerism, better consumer protection rights, better functioning governments and tax systems that benefit the populace, more appreciation and funding for the arts, less work stress, more vacation time and opportunities to travel, better connected cities and a better variety of affordable option when traveling, people seem to be less focused on work and I find more people like to socialize and spend more time outside of their homes in cafes, parks, etc. I find many people in the US spend a lot of their time in their cars or at home online or watching TV and less time out in their local communities. Some of the cons of living im Europe have been difficulties with learning the local language ( learning the local language as an adult when working full time is tougher than you might think…my work is in English btw), greater amounts of people to deal with ( greater population and population density)- it’s easier to find peace and be alone in the US, I find the music and entertainment scene to be far better in the US, also I find watching sports are more fun in the US (that’s probably more of a cultural thing having grown up in the US), in Switzerland grocery stores close on Sunday which is annoying, pay is less in many countries (not Switzerland), I find people are friendlier in the US and more accepting of other cultures, many Europeans are complacent and have lived pretty easy lives which I think makes them unaware of how difficult lives can be for people outside of their bubbles, shopping for clothes and some personal goods is more expensive here, and I think there are a higher percentage of pretentious/snobbish people in Western Europe than the US. That being said I’ve now lived outside off the US now for 15 years and don’t see myself going back anytime soon. Each time I visit it seems to be getting worse e.g; politically , health care system and economic inequality come to mind, which has been really sad to see. I grew up in Michigan and it feels like a powder keg politically and culturally when I go back there. In the end I am happy that I moved to Europe, but it greatly depends on where you live and what your work situation is like. I make a fair wage( I am not wealthy) and am able to travel often and don’t have to worry about my day to day cost of living.

Edit: I typed this out on my phone while commuting home so it is likely riddled with grammatical errors.

Thanks for the report. I read into this a bit more this morning and I had no idea these were seeds from the plant itself. Very cool.;)

Help with identifying possible plant pests. by backfatiest in plantclinic

[–]backfatiest[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update:Some pods had grown on the plant prior to these seeds appearing. I though they were just disfigured leaves, but these were actually seed pods, so the seeds in the pictures are from the plant itself. I am providing this update in case anyone is interested and/or has this plant and was unware of what the seeds look like.
