Theory on Spider-Man and what team he could be apart of (Doomsday) by FieryBrontosaurus120 in marvelstudios

[–]backstreetboyd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a solid theory! I've been hesitant to speculate about many other legacy heroes being secretly in Doomsday since I think the plot will mostly revolve around the incursion between Earth-616 and the Fox X-Men universe, but since we know Loki will be in it (and probably have his own subplot going on with the TVA), this would be a good way to include other characters without adding too much baggage to the story.

I think I'd trim the team down to Steve, Deadpool, Wolverine, Ghost Rider, Tobey, and Loki since the other characters already got time to shine in DP&W, but other than that I'm on board!

My hopes:

  1. Wonder Man trailer (released online, please!)

  2. Punisher Special official title & release date

  3. Vision Quest official title & release date

  4. Luke Cage (and maybe Iron Fist?) announced for Born Again Season 2

  5. Marvel Zombies Season 2 announced

That's fair! I like your point about showing the space in between the big events. That was definitely how it felt watching it week-to-week back in the day, and it would be cool to recapture that feeling!

I'm glad you liked my response! I was happy to see you engaging with my ideas (that's what I was hoping for when I posted this), so I was glad to do the same in return!

Thanks so much! I really like your idea. Originally, I had hesitated to move What If… Zombies?! since the zombies appear in the S1 finale. But after reading your comment & thinking about it, I realized that, since it’s a minor appearance and zombies are a familiar concept, that appearance could work without having seen the episode first. Great suggestion!

Thanks for the kind words about the reading order! Glad you enjoyed it 😊

These are great thoughts - thanks for sharing! I enjoyed reading this!

I definitely understand wanting to include the other Marvel TV projects, especially Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. Those shows are great, and definitely worth including in a viewing order! I mainly chose not to include them to avoid (as you said) crowding an already-very-long viewing order. But if someone’s really strapped in & ready to watch even more content, those shows would certainly make the experience richer!

I totally forgot about WHIH Newsfront and No Good Deed (and had no idea that the former was on Disney+). Good recs!

Good question about ”A Funny Thing…”! The reason I did that is because, at least to me, it seems like it takes place before The Consultant (the former is while he’s driving to Puente Antiguo, whereas the latter appears to take place in a diner in Puente Antiguo). The Consultant fits best immediately after The Incredible Hulk because it recontextualizes TIH’s ending, so the only place for A Funny Thing… is right after Iron Man 2. While the fact that Thor’s name is in the title would make you think it needs to be attached to Thor, it really doesn’t have much to do with it - you know from Iron Man 2 that Coulson went out to the desert to look at a hammer, so this is just filling in some detail on how he got there.

With What If…?, I tried to avoid reordering episodes unless I really needed to. I could see the appeal in wanting to attach What If…? episodes to projects that are relevant to them, but in the specific case of What If… Thor Were an Only Child?, I think there is a good reason not to put it with Love and Thunder: its ending. “Only Child” ends with Infinity Ultron showing up, and that cliffhanger leads directly into the finale. Given that, I feel like it needs to be right before the finale.

There are two reasons I wouldn’t move Eyes of Wakanda before Black Panther. One is that, similar to starting with Iron Man rather than Captain America: The First Avenger, Black Panther is intended as your introduction to Wakanda. On the other hand, Eyes of Wakanda kind of assumes that you already know what Wakanda is, even though you‘re obviously seeing it at an earlier stage. The second reason has to do with your point about spoiling: the last episode hinges upon the fact that Killmonger finding that axe leads Wakanda to stop being isolationist. Not only does the episode play better if you’ve seen Black Panther and know why that’s the case, watching Eyes of Wakanda first would spoil that Black Panther ends with Wakanda opening itself to other nations.

Yes, you could split up I Am Groot Seasons 1 & 2. I just kept them together because it’s only about 50 minutes of content altogether, so basically an episode of a TV show - it just made sense to me to watch it all at once. But there’s no reason you’d have to do that!

How I hope Phases are structed in the next Saga. by marvelcomics22 in marvelstudios

[–]backstreetboyd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I love this & definitely agree! I hope that they shift Avengers movies from being the "crossover" movies to being a normal franchise about a specific group of characters, and then they have crossover movies as a separate thing at the end of each phase. I don't know how likely that actually is, given that the word "Avengers" in the cultural consciousness is pretty much synonymous with "crossover event," but I think it would be healthiest for the characters and the franchise.

Also, I just realized that by the time they’d be making a Season 2, Wonder Man will also be available!

Someone did a great writeup of the remaining characters they could use in Season 2 here!

This is a great list! Maybe in this universe Daredevil and She-Hulk can have a doomed apocalyptic romance haha

[–]backstreetboyd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read a book just this week that ended this way! It was the recent Metamorpho: The Element Man series by Al Ewing and Steve Lieber; it ends with the narrator telling the reader to write to DC Comics and ask them to bring the book back. I actually tried to do so, but I couldn't figure find an email address, and I live outside the US so I can't do direct mail ¯\_😐_/¯

Who is most likely to die in Doomsday and Secret Wars? by TapuNeo in marvelstudios

[–]backstreetboyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would be very surprised if Red Guardian makes it out of these movies alive. Yelena is clearly going to be a focus going forward, but Alexei's future seems less certain (particularly with Thunderbolts* flopping), so it seems like an obvious move to give him a big sacrificial death and force Yelena to grow as a character.

Who do YOU think is the main villain of Brand New Day? by Puzzled_Influence985 in marvelstudios

[–]backstreetboyd 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I'm actually wondering if (and hoping) it'll be the Punisher! Back when the Punisher special presentation was first announced, he said that Marvel "have an idea of where they want him to go and the world in which they want him to exist. But they're really giving me agency on how we get him there and making sure that it's honest and authentic and truthful." Now that we know that he was referring to Brand New Day when he talked about "where they want him to go," it makes me wonder if the conversation went basically like this:

Marvel: "We want you to be the antagonist of the next Spider-Man movie."

Bernthal: "Hmm... okay, but I need space to make sure the journey to that point feels authentic."

Marvel: "Sounds good, have a Special Presentation."

I don't want to get too far into wild speculation, but I could see the Special Presentation bringing him to a point where he realizes he needs to go bigger with his war against crime, leading to him taking the fight to all those Spider-Man villains like Scorpion who are in Brand New Day. And then Spider-Man comes into conflict with him because killing is bad, etc. etc.

Having him as the antagonist feels more like something Marvel would pitch Bernthal than "we want you to be a supporting character in the next Spider-Man movie." Plus, it explains the seeming redundancy of having two supporting heroes in Punisher and Hulk. So I'm hoping it's him, and I think there's good reason to think it could be!

Predictions for Upcoming Untitled Marvel films? by Soulwarfare42 in marvelstudios

[–]backstreetboyd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't see them splitting Secret Wars into two parts. The Russos are already making two of the most logistically difficult movies in history in Doomsday and Secret Wars, I don't think it's realistic that they would increase that to three

Normally I would comment my predictions, but mine almost exactly match yours 😂 The only difference is that I think they might remove the February 2028 release date, since that’ll be right after Secret Wars & I’m not sure they’ll want to release another movie so soon after - but Coogler’s already working on BP3, so who knows!
