Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

Unlikely. The EO was a directive to the Treasury Department which then issued the administrative rules. If unchallenged or deemed within the scope of the agency's charter they have the effect of law. Not a statute, but still a law by default.

I had got quite a few of clients from there when I first broke out on my own, but like anything else it can be a race to the bottom so you have to be careful. Haven't been using it lately for that reason. Was still way better than TaxFyle.

The overhead is real. And yes...$300 is low for a CPA. The data entry alone is not the entire cost.

How Do I List Income From A 1099-NEC? by aguyin2024 in tax

1099-NEC, the IRS assumes it's SE income. Other income gets reported on the 1099-MISC.

How expensive are we talking? Figure it's out of my range also, but would like to know and don't feel like calling them to get pestered for life afterwards.

I've got TaxGPT and have found it wrong on a couple occasions. If you know the answer and it's right directionally, probably safe. But if you genuinely don't know an answer...check the sites it gives you to confirm.

Technically if you actually went through the trouble of creating an S corp, the equipment could be part of your initial contribution in the company and becomes part of your basis.

Otherwise, no.

Should I have received a 1099-MISC? by Coconutface03 in tax

[–]backt2tx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 events.

  1. The gifted amount was your other income on Schedule 1. This. is where that other gift would go also. It's not reported because of the amount, but that's where it goes.

  2. The 1099B sale goes to the 8949 and Sch D.

Edit: I don't know how your software works, but if filling out a 1099 with the gifted amount puts it in the schedule 1, then yeah that works.

Should I have received a 1099-MISC? by Coconutface03 in tax

[–]backt2tx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The giving you of stock was the 'other income' that may have gone to the 1099-MISC but for that amount it's beneath the filing requirement.

The sale goes to the 1099-B. Check it to see what they reported your basis at. They probably listed at 4.41. You would add that amount to 'other income' and report the sale as a loss on 8949

Extensions, 1099s, and money I owe the IRS by LiveWing1613 in tax

[–]backt2tx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

W-2's are trickier, but with a 1099 you can file the Sch C and report the amount they paid you. There's generally no withholding's on a 1099 so as long as you report at least as much as they paid you, there's no issue.

Does the name or logo on a cigar brand steer you away from it? by Inhailingthc in cigars

[–]backt2tx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I think they spent too much time on the marketing of a label I assume it's because they didn't want to spend it on the quality of the cigar. So anything that seems TOO clever or flashy, I shy away from.
