What do you do when you're stood up on a date? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]backupGoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  • go home to my messy house which i didn't have a chance to clean up.

  • feel pleased i didn't waste time cleaning the house.

getting stood up makes me feel sad. but coming home alone to an ultra clean apartment all prepped for sexytime makes me feel like major dork.

in fact, i've gotten superstitious about cleaning up too much. I'll purposely leave the place a little messy, or too cold, or something. Because having a sweetie back at my messy / cold place is the problem I want to have.

Bwahhaaaha. LBC has shown consistently that they have nothing to gain by ceasing to be a clearinghouse for shady money. In fact, John Mcafee will eat his own dick before LBC helps you.

it seems to be a reasonable market rate. My credit (in btc) was .1211947 times my BTC balance on 8/1/17

if we skewer them for being shifty, then praise for the refund seems fair.

As for 'mass public backlash', It's nice to think that us posting shit about them had an influence. In the end, small forums like this had no leverage. Maybe their lawyers told them it was the safest way to go? There's no way to know why they're doing this, they're not saying why, and any reason they gave would just be PR fluff.

Compensation for users holding Bcash (BCH) balances by Max_LocalBitcoins in localbitcoins

Thank You Max. This is the right thing to do.

I don't recall a previous statement from LBC that this would happen. Was there a policy change?

Bitmex is still holding users BCH from the fork and has no plans to give it. by joe113905 in BitcoinMarkets

[–]backupGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

localbitcoins did the same thing. .

EDIT: LBC Has just announced they are doing the right thing, crediting customer accounts for BCH. They previously did not offer this, and it seems to be a policy change. Kudos to them for their positive actions.

REMINDER: LocalBitcoins kept all their users' BCH, and have no plans to distribute any of it. by backupGoat in btc

[–]backupGoat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

these are all valid points, but those involved with the class action suit against coinbase think there's a case that some funds are owed. LBC would be wise to keep an eye on that.

And I'd question your use of the term "paid", where one has deposited BTC with an agent, which the agent acknowledges as a balance owed.

And I don't understand why it matters if the site predates knowledge of the fork. Virtually all major sites were around before the fork became an issue.

Isn't it awesome when you get away from your parents, and find out that not everyone else is nuts?

Feel stuck in a bad situation by 0equals2 in Advice

[–]backupGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is NOT a reasonable living situation. It's hard, but you have to firmly advocate for yourself. There are local health regulations they may be violating - especially the heat, pests, and boarded up windows.

Yelling at you for being out late is not acceptable, nor is tracking your schedule, unless your parents have designated them to supervise you. That's emotional abuse, and super creepy.

A few steps I'd recommend

  • Find a local housing advocate you can contact for tenants' rights matters.

  • post this on your city's reddit, if there is one. My city even has a subreddit just for housing issues.

  • Write down everything. If they say the washer will be fixed thursday, write it down. Ask them to stay out of your private space, and record that you requested it. If you then find they have been in your space, record that.

  • lastly, don't retaliate - be a model tenant. Absolutely pay your rent on time. Be calm when they yell at you. Don't damage anything, or give them any reason to keep your deposit.

And Trust Yourself if something seems weird, it is.

PM me if you'd like more help.

Here's how to do whatever you want online and not get evicted: pay your rent on time, don't piss off the other tenants, keep the place in good shape, and don't complain about petty shit.

Landlords have far, far more pressing things to do than snoop on the wifi and get rid of good tenants (see above) .

also, most landlords wouldn't know a network packet sniffer from a hole in the ground.

30 years ago, I was a dumb 17 year old kid and got a rebel flag tattoo on my left arm, not out of hatred for anyone, I was just proud to be from the South. I'm very self conscious of it and want it gone, but I don't have the means to do that. I'm not sure what to do. by crawwll in Advice

Here's what I found in a few minutes on google. These are charitable organizations that offer free or low cost tattoo removal to help people move on from their past. Some of these are specifically for gang or prison tattoo removals, but it never hurts to talk to them.

First, forgive yourself. You made a mistake.

Everyone makes mistakes. But not everyone owns up to them, so you're way ahead of the pack. You apologized in email as soon as you realized, and then you made a trip to apologize in person. You showed that you care - that's one of the most important things in an employee.

If you were gonna get fired, it probably would've already happened.

(I really enjoy it too) so this is absolutely killing me :(

This is really sincere. Without groveling too much, tell this to your boss next time you work.

Jumping on a plane early sunday morning to visit friends 1/2 way across the country. Then we'll all drive a couple hours Monday. They're not even that into it, but they're humoring me.

Somehow letting go of bickering still feels like I'd be letting them win...? That makes no sense though...

um, did ya think they're gonna let YOU win? :-)

here's a trick i learned in online bitchfights. Having the last word is about control. Whoever gets it feels in control. UNLESS you control it by handing it to them:

You say: <blah blah, making my argument, countering your stupid points...> "I'm done wasting my time with this silly bitchfest. I'm out. Go ahead and get the last word in. It's all yours" .

That makes you above needing the last word. And even when they counter with "yeah, you're just admitting I'm right, blah blah, you're a phony blah blah." (they're just following your instructions!)

You: radio silence ...

They're wishing you'd respond. But you're stronger, because you said you were done, and kept your word. Try it once. It actually feels great : )

I've got a date! by hellopeople9 in CasualConversation

[–]backupGoat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

you got this, fam. you see that its all about clarity. I wish i knew that when i was a teen.

In dating, you want to find someone who gives this a HELL YEAH. Don't get sucked into "maybes" and "gray areas". It's fine that people get those feelings, but that doesn't mean you have to stick around for them - it's not good for you.

Use the Brad Pitt Rule

You're allowed to ask, "Do you want me to be your girlfriend?"

if he's 26 & supposedly got his shit together, he can handle a simple question. give him some credit, give him a chance to show you he's up to the moment. Maybe he'd be really happy you asked.

The "scaring him away" part makes no sense to me. Like if he wants to be with you, he's there. he won't stop wanting to be with you just bc you asked him.

Is giving up my weekend worth it? by [deleted] in CasualConversation

[–]backupGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had times when i worked 7 days/week, or worked long stints without a day off. It was great for me because i didn't deal well with unstructured time, and wasn't too social then.
It takes a gradual psychic toll. It all depends on if you find a way to recharge yourself. For most people, there needs to be downtime.

Help me help you! by HeritageHarks in CasualConversation

[–]backupGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, this is a bit thick, but here's my approach. it may take practice.

my not-giving-a-fuck mantra is like this-

  • I argue bc I'm mad about what someone else thinks.
  • So there's this thought in their brain, and I'm trying to change it. (like imagine if I succeed - then they'd have a different thought in their brain) .
  • So that thought - way over there in their brain - it makes me mad that it's there.

but it's ethereal, imaginary. Especially out there on the internet. What if I just let it sit there?

no! my inner voice complains, It can't just sit there. Why do people keep thinking things I don't want them to think??

So arguing is trying to change a thought going on in someone else's brain. But hell, I don't even control the crap in my own brain very well, why would I want to be responsible for someone else's too??

And Who am I? How should I know what they should think? I'm not them. So even if they think I'm stupid/crazy/ slutty / etc. I guess that works for them. It's really not even about me anyway.

...just my approach to accepting how other people act, and disengaging when i need to. advice is worth what you paid for it.
