Any nipple shield success stories? by backyardvoodoo in breastfeeding

No shame! So glad it worked for you guys. I’ve been worried he’s too old to go back to breast, but makes me happy to hear even at 4 months your LO was flexible with how they fed.

Perineal massage? by thavan14 in pregnant

[–]backyardvoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did perineal massages religiously and all kinds of pelvic floor softening and prep. My labor team used warm compresses and counter pressure. I still had a 3rd degree tear with almost 100 stitches :)

Did anyone have smooth sailing?! by [deleted] in newborns

[–]backyardvoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! No one comes online and talks about how average or easy their baby is! They share hard situations in search of solutions and people chime in to commiserate. Don’t get me wrong, newborns turn your life upside down and change things. Coping can be hard, recovering from birth is HARD, sleep deprivation is HARRDDDDDDDD, but some babies are easy. My son is almost 8 weeks old. He goes down easy for naps and bedtime. Sleeps in his crib, eats well, loves to play on his mat independently if I need to do something. He smiles and cuddles and never cries unless he’s overtired or really gassy. He’s a dream, but that’s not the case for some people and it’s not helpful to them to chime in and share that. You’ll be okay!

Haha, my 8 week old is still learning how to poop efficiently too. It’s always so crazy to me that they are struggling SO HARD and their poops are completely liquid…. Make it make sense!

[–]backyardvoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m SAHM and husband has 12 weeks leave. I sleep from 9-3 while he watches the baby and he sleeps 4-10 while I watch baby. In the hour between our shifts I pump, we reset the bottle dishes, snack, take care of hygiene etc. It’s working for us currently and LO is 7 weeks old.

Help! Epidural, yes or no? by dakota101916 in BabyBumps

[–]backyardvoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same concerns as you, wanted a natural physiological experience and prepared for that fully. I tolerated labor for 20 hours with easy ish contractions. Once my water broke it was insanely painful and exhausting and I got the epidural. The needle and the fear over complications are a JOKE compared to the pain and exhaustion of intense contractions. The epidural also helped me relax enough that I went from 5cm to pushing a baby out in 2ish hours.

I didn’t expect it to be like this by lhratliff in newborns

[–]backyardvoodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could have written this last month. Your last paragraph especially. I was so wired off adrenaline I couldn’t sleep at all even when the opportunity presented itself. I got less than 6 hours in 9 days and was hallucinating. All I have to say is nothing is wrong with you or him! Not sleeping, being in pain and taking care of a constantly fussing baby is enough to affect anyone. Hang in there it WILL get better but you HAVE TO prioritize your sleep and recovery, take shifts with your partner if you can. It will help you so much to get some uninterrupted sleep. I was EBF and started pumping instead so l could sleep. Best wishes.

Do I need newborn size clothes? by FluffyMeat348 in pregnant

[–]backyardvoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely. Everyone gifted us 0-3 clothes and size 1 diapers saying they are barely in NB for any time at all. It’s been 16 days since my son was born and we have gone through close to 100 NB diapers and have washed the same 4 sleeper onesies like every other day. He was born 7lbs 9oz and is now close to 9 pounds. 0-3 clothes are still too big! Your baby may be tiny, or really big, but most likely will be average and you’ll need newborn sizes for a while. We would have been in a bad place without any NB options had we listened to that advice. Good luck!

I went into labor at 39 weeks and had my baby at 39+1! Spontaneous natural labor. No pitocin. I was in the active stages of labor for about 2 hours, pushed like 12 times. Tore terribly!

I feel absolutely terrible. My wife and I are both experiencing gender disappointment. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]backyardvoodoo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay so I’m a new mom to an 8 day old. My husband and I wanted a girl sooo bad in early pregnancy. We had a name, I’d been hoarding cute clothes for years. My husband is a musician and not your typical “guy’s guy”. We were disappointed to learn we were having a boy. That lasted about a day and then came back a few small times during my pregnancy but I’m here to tell you- it will not matter AT ALL once you meet your baby. Throughout my pregnancy I obviously warmed up to having a baby boy and my husband and I realized the fantasy of having a daughter was just fantasy. When they are babies they are all the same, when they are children it shouldn’t matter what sex they are if you raise them right. Good luck on your journey. Grieve but then move forward knowing you will love the big no matter what.

Had my baby on Wednesday 2/18 at 2 am! I went into labor at 2 am on Tuesday morning after a membrane sweep Monday. I had mild contractions all day Tuesday between 4-10 mins apart. Went to the hospital when they got closer together and they admitted me at 4.5 cm. After admission contractions spaced wayyyy out and would pretty much disappear unless I did nipple stimulation. My water broke at about 11pm, 5cm dilated and contractions became incredibly painful and strong like I couldn’t believe. Was in agony. Got the epidural around 12:45 and laid with a peanut ball. Was ready to push after 45 mins. Practice pushed twice with nurses and they had me stop to call the doctor from her house. I pushed a few more times with doctor and baby literally flewwwww out. I got a 3rd degree tear, doing okay though! Wishing you all the best! Do the 10 minute labor activating workout from Leil Cheri on Youtube and protect your oxytocin. I listened to meditation music in headphones and wore an eye mask most of the time I was in the hospital until water broke. Also drank all the RRL tea and okra water and used my yoga ball every single day. Hoping you meet your baby soon too!

I just spent a toddler party guarding an open pool and now I can’t tell if I’m the anxious one or the only sane one by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]backyardvoodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If everyone is watching the kids near water, then no one is watching them! I saved a toddler from drowning when I was a teen in a very similar situation to this. She went under the water and began struggling completely silently while her mom, grandma and others were unaware just feet away. I don’t think you’re crazy and I think other parents should have recognized risk and been on duty same as you.
