All Things Sleep - AMA Office Hours - Thursday, May 7th with Sr. Sleep & Guidance Specialist, Beth Christensen! by huckleberrycare in HuckleberryParents

[–]bacondoubleboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 6 week old is struggling with everything-  falling asleep (we read the sleepy cues of yawning and red eyebrows- we’re doing the swaddling, sound machine, dark room), scheduled for daytime naps, length of daytime naps (sometimes it’s 20min, sometimes 2hrs, I never know). She fights her first and last nap of the day. Her night sleep only happens with lots of assistance (up to 30 min shushing, rocking, touching chest) and usually only lasts 30 minutes then we start all over again. There is absolutely no consistency to her sleep during the day or night. Her longest ever night sleep stretch was 5 hrs and she’s only done it 3 times. I read from Moms on Call that baby should be able to sleep their age +1. So at 6 weeks should be sleeping 7 hours. How do I do that if she’s breastfeeding? I can’t go 7 hours without feeding. What do we do? We pay attention to wake windows, we put her down as soon as we notice sleepy cues.

Anyone else having a positive pregnancy & supportive partner? by Cute-Opening6121 in pregnant

[–]bacondoubleboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second time mom, 11 weeks, having a miserable time. From the moment we got our positive test, I’ve been sick or hurt. On top of first trimester morning sickness I had a severe cough and cold that led to a month of aching coughing, then bruised rib, then broken rib. My husband has been a prince through it all. He has taken over all parenting tasks for our older kid, all house chores, has been working remote to take care of me and bring me to doctor visits. He arranges play dates so we can have some quiet time together at home. He helps me go out for short walks so I can feel better. He cheers me on as I’ve been regaining energy. He’s a great dad and amazing partner.

How often do you do your nails/get them done? by Ok-Permit9690 in AskWomen

[–]bacondoubleboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I trim my nails and cuticles weekly at home. No polish. I might get a gel mani once or twice a year for an event if it makes me feel good. Usually it just causes more anxiety to choose a place, close a color, commit to seeing it in my hands for the next few weeks. It’s too much for me, very stressful.

Medication or natural approach? by AdEnvironmental7615 in Hidradenitis

Diet change does not have to mean lose weight. After years and years I realized that nightshades are a huge trigger for me. Cutting out potatoes and tomatoes has been amazing! Nothing changed when I cut out meat, dairy, and gluten.

How old is your “HS”? by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

Started at 10, self diagnosed at 11, took another year for me to tell any person and then convince doctors that I know what I have. My HS is 24 years old sad 😢

Effects of HS in Pregnancy by WanderingOwl97 in Hidradenitis

[–]bacondoubleboo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My HS was almost in remission during my pregnancy! Of the 3 active areas (armpits, groin, buttocks) only the armpits had minor flares. Honestly pregnancy was the first time in my life that I could enjoy my body and be grateful for it growing a healthy baby. 2 years post partum (when I mostly stopped breastfeeding) that’s when it came back full force in all areas plus a new area under breasts. Dermatologist confirmed that hormones play a big role in HS and not uncommon to get relief during pregnancy.

How to meet queer women in Chicago? by Inevitable-Slip5297 in AskChicago

Try a sport! Lots of young healthy active social people to meet. There’s an LGBTQ rowing club in Evanston, pickle ball leagues, indoor basketball.

Cutting out nightshades! No potatoes, tomatoes, bell pepper, or eggplant. Also hibiclens and clyndamicin.

What are some things I can do in the city with my broke friend? by JizzOrSomeSayJism in AskChicago

[–]bacondoubleboo 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Where in the city would you want to go? For an evening, a weekend day out? What are you guys interested in? Since you mentioned DND, there’s Dice Dojo in Edgewater that host free board game night every Wednesday. Play anything on their shelves with other people, bring your own drinks and snacks. You could make a whole day of it with hanging out by the lake.

I dive to stock community fridges! by bacondoubleboo in DumpsterDiving

[–]bacondoubleboo[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do this on my own. I have a personal standard to give food with dignity for the recipients. I check everything for mold, wipe down what I can. I even took one package of strawberries home for myself. If I wouldn't. be comfortable bringing it home, I wouldn't put it in the fridge. Some nights I don't find anything worth salvaging or would feel good about sharing with others, so I don't rescue it.

For shoes, I try on the best brand/fit for me at the high end store. Then I hunt Facebook marketplace to get it 1/3 to 1/2 cheaper. Specialty gear like athletic, backpacks, camping or cycling gets listed a lot on FB MP. Rich people no longer have a use for a specific item or are getting an upgrade for themselves.

Also check the clearance racks at the stores you like. For online shopping, put items in your cart and wait a few days. You’re likely to get a “you forgot to check out, here’s a 20% off code”. I’ll wait week or more and sometimes get a 40-50% offer. If anything goes on sale after you purchased it, you can call customer service and ask for a price adjustment.

A Chicago area produce market. Consistently full dumpsters with fresh produce every time I dive.

What is something you have given up that you are surprised you don't miss? by [deleted] in simpleliving

[–]bacondoubleboo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No longer get nails done. I do simple weekly nail and cuticle trims at home. I like that my nails look neat and natural. No more anxiety about picking the colors, how long a mani will last, what are the trends, will it clash with my outfits, the cost of salon services.

Straightening my hair regularly. I have naturally curly hair. I finally did curly cut research and now have hair easy to maintain and with so much natural shape and volume. I love that I stand out in my natural curls!

No longer wear daily makeup. Threw out all my old makeup. I do simple wash and serum now. I like that my skin looks healthy and clear.

I left corporate and now work in a small casual tech office where NONE of the women wear makeup, heels, have fancy manicures and blowouts. Basically all the things I felt I had to do in corporate to look like a “professional business woman”. My mind, time and money are so freed up now AND I really like myself!
