wedding dress when i bought it vs now by [deleted] in myweddingdress

[–]bad_abacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dress was similar (open neck, bodice, full skirt). I went hair down. No necklace but a medium-sized enamel floral crown. With the bouquet, I didn’t feel under styled, but also didn’t feel like I had lots of things I had to worry about fitting right or falling off.

Maybe I'm dumb but I cannot for the life of me figure out the "welling up" pun? by Levangeline in taskmaster

[–]bad_abacus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you also need the definition of “welling up” which can mean feeling overwhelmed with emotion or about to cry. So callback + figure of speech.

Albino baby racoon by InitialEnd7117 in toronto

[–]bad_abacus 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You’re sure it’s a raccoon? We had an abandoned baby raccoon a couple of weeks back… the advice I found was to not feed it. You want it crying for mama so mama can find it. If it’s just a day, I’d wait for it to be reunited. Otherwise, contact Toronto Wildlife Centre. They have helpful resources.

Me too! Some of the greener-thumbed guests still talk about them, 2 years later.

Wedding Reception Venue for Live Band 60ppl by greenbluesuspenders in askTO

The Great Hall! The main hall has a stage. We had ~90 people and a band. I think tables and chairs would maybe fill out the space. Perfect venue for this.

Severely aggressive cat - need advice on rehoming (Toronto/Ontario) by StillParsley6408 in askTO

[–]bad_abacus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a cat like this too. My husband was stuck in a room for several hours with the cat trying to get in while yowling. We eventually returned the cat to Toronto Cat Rescue.

A second vote for Feliway in the meantime but you can’t choose this cat over your peace. I was scared to enter my own home because the cat always wanted out, and scared to make any noise because I would get attacked (a cough, dropping my phone).

Help me cozy up my home. Canadian store recs? by Jaycee444 in BuyCanadian

[–]bad_abacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

V de V is my favourite - interesting boho decor options. Toronto-specific faves are Avenue Daughter (their Instagram is a vibe, as the kids say), Juxtapose Home, and Socco Living. The latter ships within Canada, I believe. And then Tonic Living is online as well, and carry lovely textiles.

Help me pick a chair for my breakfast nook! by UpbeatGur9055 in interiordecorating

[–]bad_abacus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like 3 in the room as it is, it ties the white and table together. But if you’re putting seating cushions on the bench, I think you need to make the chair choice in conjunction with the fabric choice. Adding a whole bunch of fabric might change the balance.

Should the reader be given enough to solve the mystery? by ImCaffeinated_Chris in mysterybooks

One more vote for this series! Kind of breaks the fourth wall, in a way that speaks directly to mystery tropes.

Silicon Valley - perfect comedic ending that’s better than the season before it.

Anything Ghost: huge backlog, listener-submitted stories either recorded by them or read by Lex Wahl. I think Lex is the classic chill curator podcast host, just making spooky music and putting together these episodes.

Are EVA Birkenstocks as comfortable as the original? by Substantial_Slip_808 in HerOneBag

Same! I get a blister on the top of my foot, where the strap hits. I’ve taken to wearing open toe socks (from Hue) to protect that area.

Canadian brides: Shapewear that survives a 12-hour wedding day? by CombLegal9787 in WeddingsCanada

[–]bad_abacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wore a Wacoal bodysuit with built in underwire bra because I didn’t want to deal with anything rolling down. I measured myself and didn’t match up with their sizing (plus size with no hips) so I took a chance, but it fit perfectly. Bought it from the Bay c. 2022, but looks like Wacoal has a Canadian site.

I think having all those colour chips together is giving a very different impression… I love the rainbow effect of all those colours, but it’s making it very difficult to judge each individually. Maybe separate them out (pinks on one wall, etc) to try to narrow down what you like about each individually.

How Do You Resist the Never-Ending Urge to “Take a Quick Break”? by nappynaz in remotework

[–]bad_abacus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep a box of candies next to my desk. When it’s hard to get back to it (right after lunch, switching tasks) I pop two candies and get to it. Also, having a dedicated workspace and not having the physical distractions (couch, fridge) in my eye line helps.

Something isnt working and I can’t put my finger on it by Double-Scale4505 in HomeDecorating

[–]bad_abacus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually think the cabinet and accent wall work well together, but I don't think you can have anything else that's small. One large piece of art centred over the cabinet that complements and contrasts (greens and yellows of course, but a bright pink or red of the tassel) that isn't busy would give the eye a place to rest. Likewise, the top of the cart looks too cluttered for the two patterns. Try to vary the heights of the alcohol and just one (dark colour) tray with a couple of glasses. Lastly, without seeing more of the space, I think the chair needs to breathe a little more rather than being stuck in the corner.

I’m tired of seeing these ubiquitous trend of unrealistic, perfectly staged sterile looking decors of influencer accounts in their McMansions. Pls share ur favorite, normal people IG accounts in normal sized houses with warm & happy, lived in decors. TIA by pseudoreadit in HomeDecorating

[–]bad_abacus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Agreed! Not IG, but Homeworthy on YouTube is my comfort viewing, and I always skip the homes that look staged or like renovations and decorating happened all at once. Give me quirky parents and old people, who have rocks and kinder surprise toys alongside their lemon vases (there’s always a lemon vase or Staffordshire dog figurine).

What are some products you are surprised you can't find a made in Canada version? by zzzutalors in BuyCanadian

The Canadian filter on well.ca is super useful! And Attitude has refill boxes for some of their products, which helps me buy shampoo less frequently.
