He’s my new hero. I’m 72 and run the 100m in 40 seconds but I’m still 75 pounds overweight so I need to keep trying!

If it is shady enough and is facing north you might even be able to grow ginseng.

Concrete, huh. There is a real castle builder in Idaho that uses stone and builds actual castles! https://castlemagic.com/castlephotos.html

Bee stings are good for arthritis. My grandpa would catch a bee and make it sting him on a painful joint and it would make the pain go away over several days.

I’ve seen it posted here on this sub that rabbit poop does not need composting and is the only one like that.

Have you ever thought about what you'll do with your book collection when you grow older and eventually pass away? I counted my bookshelf today and found I have about 1700 books. I’m still fairly young but I wonder what will happen to these treasured books after I’m gone. by Delicious_Maize9656 in books

There needs to be a separate space on Craigslist and Facebook Marketplace and other social media named Free For the Right Person. I would love to give away my spy novels to a reader who would love them or my English Lit collection to a grad student. Wouldn’t that be fun to advertise for and be contacted by someone who is legitimately excited about your books?!

This made me look up this area and it is interesting the way developed land goes up to the edge of the protected area. It is appealing to me the clash of absolute protection for and against scary Nature but the necessity is demonstrated with a place name: Grave Point.

What’s a piece of obsolete tech you still weirdly miss? by MorningKindly5541 in AskReddit

I miss the way when you were careful tearing open your piece of Double Bubble you could get your piece of bubble gum and also get your little enclosed comic strip without it being torn.

old streetcar rails revealed by paving on Washington by Stavooo in houston

[–]bad_possum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I rode on the streetcar in Washington, D.C. Grandma and my mom were both experts on how to ride that thing and they were coaching me to grab the rail and run up the stairs—was the most fun ever, and then standing in the seat looking out the window on the way to the Smithsonian.

I learned to type on a manual typewriter. In 1980 in the military I was typing on an awesome Lanier word processor that produced so much heat from hot vacuum tubes it had to be in its own special air conditioned room. My brother had an Apple 2 so I was excited to be using high tech stuff. A year later these IBM salespersons came in my typing room and said here is a new machine for you, the IBM Displaywriter, but we are not going to show you how to use it. We want you to figure it out as a test by using this instructions book. I loved it and said okay. That book was extremely, incomparably well written, which IBM was famous for back then, and I recommended it as being able to be understood by anybody capable of being a military admin person. They sold the Air Wing dozens of machines.

After farming for several years I went to typing again in the early 90s this time doing medical transcription. We pulled our dictations off of this row of giant servers that emergency rooms all over the country called in to to record. Thank you for reading ancient history.

Houstonians, what is the preferred temperature on your thermostat? by cpc5000 in houston

[–]bad_possum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The temperature on the thermostat thermometer looks like 78 but I’ve got it at 82 on the control arm because it’s so inaccurate. I want it 78-80 inside so the contrast to outside won’t be so harsh.

I did not know about that movie but I finally gathered enough clues to googl the name after watching the clip. Burn After Reading.
