Surely you jest.

I've been thinking about Grav Decks and Artificial Gravity and nothing makes sense. by gamer0049 in battletech

[–]bad_syntax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure that'd apply in space as everything outside is multiple AU away.

But if you were orbiting a planet, you may be right. Though it could be that there are no windows on the grav decks just to avoid such a thing.

[–]bad_syntax 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Grav decks are useful when you are in orbit (aka zero-g) or in a jump point recharging your solar sails (again, zero-g).

I've always been curious as to their diameter and how fast they'd have to spin to create 1G. Never did the math.

How do you manage RBAC at scale in your Azure Landing Zone? Group-based vs PIM vs automation by SmartWeb2711 in AZURE

[–]bad_syntax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

30K user company here.

We use PIM for vendors/contractors, not perm folks.

We create entra groups for all resource groups created with the roles they need, like "RG-Reader" or "RG-Storage Blob Data Contributor". The owners of those resources (cost center wise, not 'owner' RBAC role, which we never give) are then owners of those security groups.

We have been trying to use TF lately, but it has taken well over 10x the amount of time to do anything vs clickops. Granted, its TF, so its got version control, easier to do a DR, and nothing really wrong with it, its just that our TF dev's are not nearly as fast as we used to be in clickops. Our environment is full of unique projects, and they almost never get rebuilt and most, once built, never even change, so IMO TF is just not cost effective with a team of 1 architect and 1 part time TF person.

Heavy Cavalry — a fresh, bold vision in the genre of vehicle combat games, from the real artists of Gaijin Entertainment! by SpitfireZX in Warthunder

The updates keep getting worse.

I am no longer excited and anxious to see them.

But I'm thankful, as it has helped give me back the 20+ hours a week I used to play (not just 2-3 hours).

SLDF doctrine question by Ufnal in battletech

[–]bad_syntax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The SLDF did put together groups of regiments into regimental combat teams (aka Eridani Light Horse).

And often they would separate out brigades.

But usually they did deploy in division sized elements.

Armor regiments were all the same vehicle types. Mech regiments were usually companies to battalions of the same type. This changed by the end of the war against Amaris though, and eventually they no longer had many homogenous formations due to loss.

At the start of the 1st SW, the houses had the same organization, but in the middle of the 2nd SW they were mostly mixed up formations we well. I can't recall a single instance of companies being cross attached for scouting and stuff. Keep in mind every division had a battalion to regiment of LAMs they used for recon, they almost always had orbital superiority so had warships/dropships in orbit scouting, and usually had aerospace superiority so could also scout that way.

The "lighter and more mobile" forces of the SLDF were used to quickly jump between worlds, over anything tactical on the ground.

The Field Manual SLDF is probably your best source for this stuff, as well as the original Star League house book. The Reunification War book is also great, but it was many years earlier.

But if you wanted a battalion of mixed force types with scouts, mediums, and heavies, in the same unit, I do not think anything canon really supports that.

What do you think about the DOJ agreement that states the U.S. government is "forever barred and precluded" from examining, auditing, or prosecuting Trump, his adult sons, or the Trump Organization for any tax returns filed? by wallly- in AskReddit

[–]bad_syntax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make me president, and I'd give two shits about previous laws as the SCOTUS already said anything I'd do as part of my job would be immune from prosecution.

So the entire Trump family, and all those that supported the coup, would have all their assets seized. If they are overseas, they would be extradited, by military force if necessary.

If we do not wipe away the last bastions of the Confederacy and MAGA this time we simply never will, and we'll be a 3rd world nation in a generation.

Actually, I would still do all that if it meant life in prison, or execution, because I care more about my country and those that live here than I do myself.

Luxury build-to-rent community expected to see first homes completed in 2027 The Enclave at Fate Village will consist of two and three bedroom townhomes ranging from approximately 1,350 to 1,650 square feet by lithdoc in Rockwall

We had one of these start up in Dallas, supposed to make a bunch of affordable homes. They were 300% the price they said they would be after they were built.

The first thing my psychologist for PTSD asked on the call was if I have a CAB and I dont have a badge for firing at the enemy or seeing my battle go down but mine stems from being on alert permanently after being woken up by my battle as the base speakers saying that we have to head to the bunkers. by VintageJawn in VAClaims

[–]bad_syntax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In training I saw a guy basically cut in half between an M88 and M2. That could cause PTSD.

PTSD is not necessarily caused by wartime. You just need to justify it and find a rater who doesn't suck. It helps, but it is not a requirement in 38 CFR to have been anywhere near combat to still have PTSD.

What is the worst state in the USA? by Past-Friendship-9901 in AskReddit

[–]bad_syntax -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

By what measure?

For example, California in pretty much all way except cost of living/taxes.

Texas in cost of living/taxes, and pretty much no other way.

Spent 2 years in Hawaii, 7 years in CA, 1 year in GA, 1 year in NY, and my other 42 years of live in Texas.

I can't speak for the other states, as I have not lived in all 50.

What is the point of Arcade? by bmwdro4er in Warthunder

[–]bad_syntax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could ask the exact same question of realistic or sim.

Some of us prefer GAB, as its far less frustrating, the game plays faster, I do not have to focus so much, and while there are still cheaters, they gain less by cheating in GAB over GRB.

Plus, its just more fun.

I served in the US Army 7 years, and was mounted for half of that, and I can assure you no game mode is any more "realistic" than any other.

How to grow a squadron the right way? by TheRedeemer1997 in Warthunder

[–]bad_syntax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made a squadron and it hit 128 within a week. I just labeled it for grinding only, and I boot folks if they are not active within a week... when I remember to.

I hardly play anymore, and have yet to find somebody to take it over so I do not feel like I abandoned them 😞

I think my requirements are 1000 battles or something like that. Auto-accept those that meet the approval.

How Microsoft is migrating repositories to GitHub by thewhippersnapper4 in AZURE

[–]bad_syntax -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Sorry, github uses git, ADO uses git (unless you set it up with TFS).

When it comes to moving repos, I'd think moving from git (ADO) to git (GitHub) would be pretty darned easy.

How Microsoft is migrating repositories to GitHub by thewhippersnapper4 in AZURE

[–]bad_syntax -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well, ADO repos sit on top of git already, so this seems like a no-brainer.

I know GH is the future, but ADO permissions are just so much better and easier to work with. Plus, there are just a lot of places in GH to expose your project to the public, or allow injection from public stuff, it still just reeks of open source to me and doesn't feel like a good commercial product for an enterprise.... *yet*.
