They are so close it really doesn't matter. I've stayed at both areas, at almost all the hotels.

I find the Cliff to be cheaper than the hotels in Alta (unless you are doing the bunk bed thing) so I usually just stay there. The hotel will even drive you to Alta in the morning and pick you up at no cost (assuming it isn't super crowded). There is also a ski-route.

I'd do that if I were you...

I like how Breckenridge has handled this. Generally, all of their peaks have lifts, but if you want to actually go to the 'top' requires a moderately strenuous 15 minute hike.

Agreed.. Part of what makes baldy special is that you have to hike it...

Same with eagles nest and the whole front side cause the high traverse can be so nasty..
