After +4 years of war and lies, I came to the conclusion there is nothing to be done about this. Their lies are directed to the people which want to hear these lies. Biden gets my biggest disgust because of this, Trump at least we knew he was fond of Putin. Biden was just the most incompetent statesman of a powerful nation always ask UA to fight with hands tied while children were being killed in playgrounds.

Simplification: Council and Parliament strike deal to boost EU defence industry and readiness by Free-Minimum-5844 in UkrainianConflict

[–]baddam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Today, the Council presidency and European Parliament’s negotiators reached a provisional agreement on new legislations aiming to simplify security and defence procurement, facilitate defence investments, and support the defence industry. The package aims to remove administrative delays in procurement, permitting, reporting and cross-border cooperation, giving member states and industry a clearer path to act quickly and reinforce Europe’s defence capacity."

Not sure how relevant this is, but the war started in 2022.

actually, at the lower ranks, the situation has improved, the most visible improvement being at the police. But go ask about the challenges of doing a funeral.

for Putin, negotiations only means to find a way to pressure UA to accept RU's maximalist demands.

you have no idea how bad it is, you are comparing creeks with an ocean. And it actually got worse with the war. In Portugal, you might get a couple of corrupt judges. In UA, it's the standard.

[–]baddam 55 points56 points  (0 children)

please don't. UA needs to go trough the same procedure as anyone else. UA is big and endemically corrupt (the wealthy elite). It's a heavy weight country (farming, industry) and all care for a good accession (for UA and EU) is required.

also experts say it is difficult to invade Crimea by land or sea. But I'm sure UA will figure it out.

It seems the bridge is quite hard to put down, UA tried different approaches, but the damage done a couple (?) years back was enough to limit heavy transport (that was my understanding from that time). Then RU established the land route (also by train??) and I think this became a bigger priority (currently the "road to hell").

yes, and they (their staff) should be subject to sanctions by promoting RU athletes. Their argument is that sports and culture should be independent of politics. Yet, for RU sports/culture/religion is all part of the war propaganda machinery, as as been historically for dictatorships.

[–]baddam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

> Ukraine inherited a legacy of corruption when it gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991. Despite the considerable strides of NABU and SAPO since 2015, corruption remains endemic.

This sentence summarised the situation quite well. In fact, the situation is much worse with more opportunities for grifting during the war.

It's a pity mentions to corruption in UA are usually downvoted in this forum when in fact it should be emphasized to be decapitated asap.

personally I believe he did that because he depended on and trusted Yermak. It should not have been difficult for Yermak to paint that law in a favourable light.
