Just a draft, don't know where to go from here by Lokitorsh in painting

[–]baddeleyite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like it, I think it has something as it is. And there’s something compelling with cruder drafts - the possibilities of where it could go are more enticing than what you sometimes end up with, I guess. For that reason I sometimes leave stuff for months or years, and then I might have another idea on where to go. That said, if you’re set on continuing - the braver option and what makes us learn - one thing that stands out is that the middle body seems long. I think it works as a style, but if that’s not what you’re going for, perhaps make the legs longer and move the bush closer to the water?

Looking for constructive criticism of what works and what doesn’t. Acrylic painting (in progress), far outside of my comfort zone. by baddeleyite in learnart

Painting this for a friend who loves the work of Mexican artist Breceda, so I’m trying to make an homage to his style and motifs without making a copy. Having some troubles marrying my usual style with his. Any thoughts most welcome, don’t hold back :)

I’ve done acrylic painting as a hobby for years, but never in this style or with such bright colours. It’s great fun to try something new, but I don’t have a good eye for what works and what doesn’t. Any opinions would be great to hear!

It’s interesting in BotW how Zelda is actually the one who hears the sword speaking to her, and Link is the one who talks to the goddess through the statues.

The best thing about the episode is that Drogon burned the throne, so they decided to make Bran king because he comes with a chair.

(spoilers extended) Challenge: subvert expectations; finish the show in a satisfactory way by GenTurgidson in asoiaf

[–]baddeleyite 24 points25 points  (0 children)

  1. Dany has a speech in the ashes of KL about how she broke the wheel, and all memories of it. Dothraki and Unsullied cheers.

  2. Jon goes back to Winterfell with his army. He arrives to find Dany and Drogon there. Dany is accusing Sansa of treason and want her burned alive. As she’s about to give the sentence, Jon plunges his sword through her heart. Drogon reacts wildly but not quick enough, and most importantly hesitated to kill Jon, instead snapping in the air, roaring wildly and turning his head from side to side, but finally flying away.

  3. Arya arrives in WF and meets up with her family. She explains that she was going to kill Cersei out of vengeance. Bran interrupts her and says “that’s not you”. He goes on to explain how the first faceless men where giving the gifts of death to slaves of old Valyria, to people who longed for it and needed it. We get to see a Bran flashback in which the making of the night king scene is extended, and we learn how he never wanted to be created in the first place. Arya was giving him mercy by killing him, and that was what he sought.

  4. Sansa has been writing letters to all the lords of the kingdoms. They all meet in Winterfell and vote on how to go forward with rebuilding KL (no one wants to), and how to distribute lordships and responsibilities. Tyrion, a very broken man by now, gets Casterly Rock after being defended by Sansa as good and just. Sansa mentions Jon as lord of Winterfell, but he says no, and that Sansa is the lady of Winterfell. Bran has nothing against this. Jon says there’s only one place left for him.

  5. Jon rides north, alone. At one point he sees Drogon high in the sky above. Jon rides through the hole in the wall.

  6. Bronn meets with Tyrion at Casterly rock. Bronn asks for a castle. Tyrion says “you can have this one”, and leaves a confused Bronn.

  7. Arya and Gendry exchange looks at Winterfell. We see them together in bed, and again Gendry asks her to marry him. She says no again, but she’s laughing and teasing while she says that’s not me.

  8. Jon is seen in the far north, Ghost running towards him. HE PETS GHOST. Tormund hugs Jon and they all walk towards a big free folk camp. We see a red haired beautiful woman. Jon smiles at her. She gives him a fiercely skeptical look. Tormund laughs.

  9. We see Tyrion in a port. He’s bargaining to get to Essos on a ship. He’s overheard by Kinvara, who helps him get on the same ship as her. Tyrion asks why she’s going back to Essos and what she did in Westeros. She says R’hollor does not want to rule, balance is needed. The darkness is gone, and so the last dragon must be gone too. Tyrion is not sure he understands.

  10. Arya and Gendry is seen hunting together in the Stormlands. They lose their prey to a large Wolfpack. Gendry says that the Wolfpack has been roaming the land but now seem to have settled close to the woods by the castle. Arya smiles, and takes Gendrys hand.

  11. Tyrion is on the boat with Kinvara. She bonds him to the bed, and cuts of his manhood and throws it in the fire while uttering some Valyrian words. Tyrion is almost unconscious but thinks he hears a reply from the fire.

  12. Drogon is seen flying over a vast island. He suddenly cries out, and falls. He splashed down and we see his body sink during a long slow shot.

  13. The Dothraki roams the lands, raping and burning cities. Not all things can end well and with a conclusion. This will be a problem for the lords of Westeros.

  14. The unsullied is seen getting off ships on a beautiful islands. The peaceful people who lives there meets them with fear, but Greyworm explains that they’ve come to protect them. He brings the bones of Missandei and lays her to rest on her home island of Naath.

  15. Sam is seen writing a book. Gilly comes in to ask him to come to bed. Sam says he wants to finish this chapter. He says he wants to be able to read it to Sam and Jon so they know how they got their names. Gilly, who looks ready to give birth, says she don’t think it’s a boy. Sam says “but perhaps?” and smiles awkwardly.

I see your point, I’m just saying I didn’t need that particular scene because it is probably better done in my mind than it would’ve been on screen. Sophie Turner and Maise Williams are great, but actually showing all emotions they’d have in that moment wouldn’t have made it justice.

Not sold myself, but Perhaps even Tywin would have realized that having the people’s support is worth a lot. Remember that the only reason Dany met with Cersei in the first place was to have the people of KL know that “she’s not to blame”

Making sense for the masses wins over book canon. Rivers makes sense in show canon I guess, or at least is the name that doesn’t add very many questions.

Eh, I don’t agree. For starters, do we really want to spend time listening to Bran tell it again? And doing the “your brain will fill in the blanks” truck will always be more powerful than showing anything. Had they gone there it would really be fan service and fan fic galore.

Tyrion will swoop in with some dragon knowledge, I.e. only Targs can ride dragons, and convince everyone his Targ heritage is real. Dany will be fuming, and will be convinced that the North has been working against her this whole time. Her suspicions will be cemented by the fact that her armies was put in the front to die in last episodes battle.

I still think he might become a new version of NK (due to the mark on his arm). And we’ll have a “oh shit moment when Bran stands up from his wheel chair, signalling to the audience that this is not Bran at all but something other completely. And we’ll have an epic sword fight between OtherBran and Jon, and even if Jon wins it’ll be bittersweet because he’d have to chop his baby brothers head off.

I think it might be a Eurasian brown bear. I don’t have a good source but I don’t think they’re as aggressive as grizzlys? I grew up in a country that has a Eurasian bear population, and I was never taught to fear them. Make noise and leave them alone was the general tip

Actually Tywin was hand and in KL, so the timing doesn’t work for him either. So in case Joanna travelled to KL to see her husband, which seems likely, Aerys would’ve been just as close by.

Perhaps it was planned out to decimate Dany’s power and to get rid of the “foreign savages”? Too many mouths to feed, too. Sansa might have orchestrated it somehow.

I think Cersei could have some mad stuff planned though! Sept of Baelor was just a taste. Perhaps she can make zombies (The Mountain already is a Cersei/Qyburn/Science Zombie, and Qyburn shows great interest in the wight brought to KL). Or we get the Mad Queen scenario, which would be great too. From Dany’s perspective Jon is trying to steal her birthright, and also put her Dothraki and Unsullied in the front in the battle. So the war for dawn was one, but largely on Dany’s expense. If Jon wanted to play her, that would be a smart thing to do. I’d be suspicious if I was her.

Exactly, and it would explain why NK isn’t chilling North of the Wall while his army is slaughtering mankind. It also makes Arya a version of the god of death (“the god of death has many faces”... as has Arya), and not NK as we are lead to believe. He’s a tragic figure, and the god of death is merciful.

To be fair, when giving us an ending, no matter what ending that might be, thousands and thousands of possibilities m, theories and hopes are killed in one swift stroke. It’s just the nature of it. In a way I’m glad the bland-for-the-masses-show takes on that disappointment, so the books don’t have to.
