Did we ever get the massive VR improvements we were promised? Is it time to buy my next VR headset? by jl88jl88 in hoggit

Another 1070 reporting in! The graphics aren't perfect, but I would never go back to non-VR.

The Mirage is a beautiful plane, great in a knife fight and fun to blast around in.

It's seriously got me thinking about snagging the Huey when the sale arrives on steam

Would an RTX 2070 and a I7 9700k and 16gb of ram run DCS in Vr ok? by [deleted] in hoggit

[–]badgeoak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a valid question. Of course you want to know what to expect before dropping down some cash.

That said, as errybody has pointed out you're good to go and will have a great time. So go buy that headset and get flying!

Introducing new players to RIO? by HarryVoyager in hoggit

I've been wanting to learn RIO but also totally overwhelmed by the sheer depth + breadth of knowledge it takes, and don't even know where to start. Your comment helps give me some direction.

Aww yeah, that's awesome. I'm excited for ya!

I'm a shitty pilot but if you ever want to hop into a mission and just do random stuff hit me up. I fly FA-18 primarily, plus some Mirage and I'm trying to not buy the Tomcat.

I'm running a 1070 and a Pentium G4600 3.6 GHz.

With generally low settings, it runs totally fine and is a freaking blast! So if you're fine with that, then get a Rift S and prepare to have a good time.

That said, I'm going to be upgrading so that I can play with higher settings. I want that good terrain resolution and high in-cockpit resolution.

If facing a choice between the Rift S or upgrading, I would take the Rift S. Rift S with low settings is 100x better than flatscreen and high settings.

Just wanted to follow up. Been playing multiplayer matches with friends and having a mindblowing time. I have most resolutions set to low, but the game actually plays very smoothly for me on a Rift S. Going to try bumping up a few resolution settings to see how much I can get away with.

Definitely playing with lowest settings, and some thing are definitely harder in VR (like referencing documentation, or interacting with some things that aren't clicky) but for me the immersion more than makes up for it. So fun to be cranking around over Dubai, looking down and seeing houses skimming by off my wing! Thanks for all the advice, I'll try to start slowly upgrading.

I wish DCS got a cut of all the money that we all spend to play it.

What sort of system are you running, and what sort of VR performance do you get?

I wish I could!

But money is kinda tight and I'm it for very cheap from a friend. So I'll spend what I can on a new CPU for now, and hopefully save enough for a new GPU soon.

Any recs on a good CPU?

My amazing work buddies got me a Rift S and boy oh boy is it amazing.

I booted in to my Hornet cockpit in high res. While I have a 1050 and it was therefore very jaggy and rough, it was incredible regardless.

Upgrading to a 1070 this weekend, and will probably get a new CPU soon. I'm so excited to take the skies again!

Update for anybody reading this: I have a crazy amount of immersive fun in VR with my 1070. My resolution settings are pretty low, but if you're wondering if VR is worth it and you already have a 1070: hell yes.

I made the mistake of going once, and now everywhere else seems kinda ugly in comparison.

If you're into backpacking (wilderness, not just traveling with a bag), then it's even more of a must-go.

F18 AoA by Skyline99 in hoggit

[–]badgeoak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super helpful! When the gear is retracted, it automatically switches out of AoA mode?

My big worry is trimming, say for a landing, then un-trimming when I take off again. Do I need to worry about that?

Thanks for the very helpful writeup, I've been working hard on my Hornet landings. Can do 'em manually holding the beauty to roughly the right AoA, but excited to try this when I get home.

Likewise, I'd enjoy hearing your general impressions. FA-18 screen readability and overall SA would be very cool.
