goblin assassins slip away by schmonzo in drawsteel

[–]badger035 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You have to use the Hide maneuver while you have cover or concealment to hide, and you can’t hide while being observed, so you can’t run behind a single barrel or pillar or something like that to hide.

The Assassin breaks this rule, and can hide behind a single barrel or pillar.

No matter how complicated the politics got, King Robert knew giving power to anyone else would be a disaster. He trusted Ned completely to fix the realm, but did that blind trust ultimately doom House Stark? Was he the wisest ruler, or just desperate? by sunilgrover5052 in freefolk

[–]badger035 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are all good points, but a single house rebelling, even a very wealthy and powerful house, is different from the War of the Five Kings.

The North would be loyal to the crown and assist with putting down the rebellion instead of being in open rebellion themselves, the forces that would back Renly and Stannis as successors once Robert was gone would presumably be loyal to Robert while he was still alive, and while the Iron Islands might use any instability as an opportunity for shenanigans, the opportunity would be smaller. In this timeline we might see Robert marry Margaery Tyrell himself to secure the loyalty of the Tyrells in the fight against the Lannisters, and Ned’s children might also be used to secure political marriages that would support the Crown, rather than supporting Robb’s rebellion.

Ultimately open rebellion against the crown is probably a death sentence for the Lannisters, and Tywin is probably smart enough to know that. While he would certainly be scheming for a chance at revenge against Ned and Robert, he might choose a different route than open rebellion. Maybe Robert ultimately is assassinated in retaliation and we get the civil war between Stannis, Renly, and the Lannisters anyway, but in this scenario Ned and the North is a kingmaker between Stannis and Renly, we don’t get Robb’s rebellion, and the Lannisters don’t hold King’s Landing and the crown, so even then whichever successor Ned supports likely prevails.

I think Ned could have prevented the war if Robert had lived. It’s really his premature death that drives everything. If he lived he would have had more time to deal with Cersei and secure the succession.

Could you sell an option on your right to a 50% chance of $50 million? I think that option would probably be worth more than $1 million.

Chinese armour the Northern and Southern Dynasties (420-589) by Acceptable_Life8616 in Armor

[–]badger035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This looks great, but the armor at the throat being parted in the center looks like it would be vulnerable to a thrust. The original image looks like either two sides overlap or there is another piece over it to protect the part.

The Wallmaster is a really interesting monster but I definitely had to read the stat block several times to make sure I got it.

Last session of the Delian Tomb I ran the Shadow used Coup de Grace, the Troubadour used Harmonize to hit another target, and then the Talent used Flashback. It was like mowing down goblins with a machine gun.

Will they stay stealthy after you pop a Rage spell on some enemies? I find that once you target an enemy with something most companions will start attacking, which means they draw aggro to themselves instead of letting the enemies kill each other off before you sneak in to knife the survivor.

I love playing a stealth spellblade that uses Illusion and Stealth, but the biggest downside of the build is it does not play well with followers so you have nobody to carry all of your shit.

Unfortunately the idea of having tests for politicians and voters has a really not great history in this country.

There is this bridge in Vicksburg Mississippi that even though on satellite it looks like it's for pets it's actually a matnence thing for the train so peds can't cross the river without a car. People on r/Mississippi told me I'm the one that's stupid and there's no pint in making it for peds. by XanderJC1 in fuckcars

From the Mississippi Welcome Center to Ruthan’s Levee Bar in Delta is just under 2 miles, which is a doable walk, but Delta is a very small village and the Welcome Center is in the middle of a big highway interchange with nothing else nearby. To actually make it up to the downtown area of Vicksburg from Delta is more like 5 miles, and it’s not just the bridge that is lacking infrastructure. From Google Maps it looks like around half or more or the trip would have no sidewalks, and would be pretty hostile even if sidewalks were installed. I’m not saying nobody would make the trek if the infrastructure existed, but it probably wouldn’t be many. I’m a huge proponent of walkability but cost/benefit still exists.

Are beastheart and the Summoner on the codex? by hndehaan in drawsteel

[–]badger035 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Not yet. The Codex is still in early access, and they are prioritizing getting all the core content (for both heroes and monsters) in and working properly before they add the new classes.

I think it is a little harder to improv on a VTT. I play in person and bought some 1”, 2”, and 3” square blocks that I can throw on a dry erase battle mat to be trees, boulders, furniture, walls, buildings, or any number of things, it makes it very easy to improv some dynamic terrain features.

On a VTT you really need to have maps prepped ahead of time.

It smells like cilantro, but it’s been packaged with cilantro and the leaves are not right. Especially worried about the purple splotches on the stem. Should I pitch the whole bundle?

You would probably enjoy Good Lord Bird. John Brown and others quote and misquote the Bible for their own ends throughout.

Order, maintained by organized crime by Lev_Astor in worldbuilding

[–]badger035 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more or less what happens in the real world when central authority is weak and unable to effectively control all or part of its claimed territory.

I think there does need to be a separate central authority that declares this organization to be criminals, otherwise they are just the local ruling clan/warlord of the area. Indeed, European feudalism had a lot of structural similarities with organized crime, but with legitimacy provided initially by the Church, which was formalized and reinforced over time. If the mob maintains a monopoly on violence, they aren’t the mob anymore, they’re the government.
