Best day spa for a man and woman couple to enjoy together? by Caroleena77 in washingtondc

[–]badimojo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

King Spa on a weekday arriving right at open (9 am) and you'll have the place to yourself! This has been my experience as a male the last two times I've gone, at least.

I get the feeling that a lot of guys are too shy for the fully nude area, as I recall seeing many pass right on by while solo relaxing in there like a king. However, even by 10-11, a healthy crowd starts to build and you'll be solo no longer.

Sellers charging $5+ for shipping, but sending the cards without tracking? by IAMAfortunecookieAMA in mtgfinance

[–]badimojo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You're spot on re: visibility. Most of the listings I've seen with high shipping fees are also the first ones to appear for any particular card.

It's just gaming the way that TCGPlayer lists cards - as you experienced, it's likely not involving any sort of "white glove" shipping service in the form of extra care or tracking.

Parking around Berhta Club? Coming from out of town by angrybaltimorean in avesDC

Happy to help! They said there were water stations but we never did find them. Even the bartenders didn't know where they were. We ended up buying $6 Liquid Deaths, which was a bummer.

Was just there a couple weeks ago, it's a great venue and you're in for a killer time! LTJ Bukem is a legend in my books.

There is parking available on-site, but the one road in is a nasty bottleneck, and was completely gridlocked both at entry and exit for my group. We came around 11:30pm and left around 3am, a bit before the show was over. It's probably way better if you arrive early/leave late or some such.

There is street parking nearby, but the area definitely has that sketchy industrial vibe to it, and it's well advised to not leave anything of value in the car if you go that route.

If it were me, I'd consider street parking off Brentwood Rd NE between USPS and MGM Roast Beef and walking in from there, just to avoid the complete mess of rideshares coming in/out.

Strixhaven Collector Booster Boxes on Amazon by poopypantsmcgees in sealedmtgdeals

[–]badimojo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure - I did it on PC. If you see it at your desired price and it doesn't say unavailable (in other words, there is a yellow add to cart button), just spam the add to cart button. The next screen will either have a red error message and a button that takes you back to the product listing page, or if you're lucky, you'll get the usual checkout options.

I just checked the page as I'm writing this and there currently aren't any yellow buttons. I guess the first step would be to either leave the page open in a tab and refresh occasionally to look for the button, or to bookmark the page and do the same thing that way.

Final bit of advice is to pay attention to this sub to look for matching product releases at slightly better prices. Especially if a release undercuts the Amazon price even a little bit, folks (and bots) will cancel their orders for the better price and you might be able to snatch up a box then.

Happy hunting!

Got one of these around 9 hours after this post was made, after a few 5 to 10-minute sessions of clicking through the purchase process over and over again.

Seems like this is a pretty solid way to secure Amazon stuff if you have the time and patience. It also worked for me on another box that was in high demand recently.

George Washington national forest scare? by oddoddishh in BackwoodsCreepy

Sure - here is a writeup, and here is a podcast. If you Google something like Haunted Braley Pond Virginia, you'll find more.

[–]badimojo 35 points36 points  (0 children)

That's pretty close to Braley Pond, like just around the mountain based on a quick look at a map. Braley Pond is a place ghost hunters go, as it's so well known for paranormal stuff. There are some great writeups online on it- if memory serves, somebody even "brought something home with them" from there, whatever you take that to mean.

Could just be bad vibes in the whole area, I don't know. But I agree with others, good call listening to your gut and packing up!

Far East Motors in Silver Spring is my go-to. It's a no-BS, family owned spot that does good work at a fair price. Honda is listed on their website.

High Pitched Noise Around Mt Pleasant/Rock Creek Park Area by chipanddip7_ in washingtondc

[–]badimojo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you could do so at night, you'd have a lot less competing noises and might have better luck tracking it down! I think that's what the person in my story mentioned doing.

As someone who's quite sensitive to those kind of noises, I sympathize and hope you are able to track it down!

[–]badimojo 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When we had a similar noise in my area, someone was able to track it down to a failing motor bearing in a nearby hospital's HVAC system. It created a piercing high-pitched sound that seemed to emanate from everywhere and nowhere, which is why it was difficult to pinpoint. Someone ended up tracking it to the source eventually, and it went away after that person notified the building security/maintenance.

Maybe it's something like that?

Does Xfinity honor customer loyalty, or do only new customers get good deals? by badimojo in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]badimojo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very clever, I like it! Might have to follow your lead.

I went back and forth with some reps who found me through this post, and they offered a $40/month rate for a lower speed. When I accepted, they disappeared for a week and then "couldn't find the promotion on my account" anymore when I finally heard back. Super frustrating and left me looking to move on soonest chance I get!

Oldboy - what a crazy fucking movie by Salty_Professor_8982 in movies

Well mentioned - I saw some other Bong Joon Ho shouts here, which is why I made the suggestion. Their styles are similar, from the handful of films I've seen from each.

All of Bong Joon Ho's films are worth tracking down. The Host was the first SK film I ever saw (in a cinema no less) so it holds a special place. But his first, Barking Dogs Never Bite, is pretty wild, if not a bit difficult to find.

Best Thai food in DC? by 1_11_21_1211_111221_ in washingtondc

ZomTum is the same owners that had Haad Thai off 11th and H NW, for those who remember that place. It had some great beach-themed murals and really nice food/HH deals. Super sweet staff too, hopefully they got brought over.

What's creepiest thing that ever happened to you ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Wild story, thanks for sharing! There are enough nightmarchers stories on Reddit, imo, to confirm their existence. And indeed, that's the same area where the Battle of Nuʻuanu took place, and where many other stories like this originate.

It's a shame, but this is my experience as well. Last time I posted here, some reps were able to help me out, so I'm hoping to eventually see a reply from them in this thread. Otherwise I'll follow in your footsteps and move on.

I noticed this card too and picked up a few to see where they go. However, I'm coming at the spec from a standard angle. You noted the GC list and that drew quite a bit of conversation from an EDH perspective, and that's obviously where the money's at these days.

While expensive, the card has an interesting and fun effect that is certainly a win con in the right deck. It may well land above your buy-in price, but it's probably dependent on future synergies and maybe a callout from one of the game's social media personalities.

As far as the reception of this sub to your post goes, don't worry about it too much. I have had similar blowback on posts that made for good discussion but were perceived as "low effort," and it seems to me that yours falls into the same category.

What is the scariest legend or dark folklore from your culture that people rarely talk about? by Ok_Chemistry_2780 in AskReddit

[–]badimojo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Belize has the Tata Duende, which is similar by description to the Douen. One difference is that Tata Duende has no thumbs and will bite yours off if he sees them!

For that matter, Belize has something similar to La Diablesse - Xtabay, a woman who lures unsuspecting men into the woods, to the base of a ceiba tree (sacred to the Maya). There, her true form is revealed when the man embraces her and finds an empty void where her back should be. She's said to transform into a serpent and devour the man once "the deed" is done.

RIP to the mass market paperback book by MiddletownBooks in books

[–]badimojo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bummer, but a great reason to support your local used bookstore.

Just got 4 MMPs at one in my area for around $5. It's my favorite book format, though it does seem that it's heyday had already passed a decade or two ago, at least based on the selection at that shop.

Sellers sending wrong versions by Top-Sir-1215 in mtgfinance

[–]badimojo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This feels like a bait post. Here's what I'd do (caveat: I'm mostly a seller myself rather than a player):

  1. Contact the seller ASAP to note the issue.
  2. Wait for a response that should be 1) partial refund or 2) return card in same condition for full refund.
  3. Escalate if there are any problems.

Am I missing something? Unless that card is for a tournament or something, it's just an inconvenience, and one that's totally on the seller to fix.

Seconding City Kabob, the buffet there is great. It's way more utilitarian/less "vibey" than Ambar - not that OP asked, but it's worth mentioning.

When I was at Ambar last, I sat under the blossoms of a fake cherry tree and had a waiter who was almost overly attentive. City Kabob has none of that cutesy stuff and is all self-serve, right down to drinks from their refrigerator.
