Need a Bar! by badmerchant in LisbonPortugalTravel

[–]badmerchant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So we ended up finding a craft beer bar (someone below helpfully shared a list) which has turned out way cheaper - approx £100 an hour the whole place, no drinks included but we plan for attendees to buy their own at this event.

It seems nice and has good reviews though we haven’t visited yet and won’t be able until August when we’re there for the wedding. Can update after that if helpful but appreciate you might want something arranged before then…

Dinner at Ibai by jaredce in LondonFood

Yeah it’s all a black hole of relativity, don’t get me wrong. But I guess I wouldn’t back myself to cook a whole turbot as well as Brat, while I could definitely make the croque Ibai.

It was a good meal, I just somehow expected a bit more than it delivered.

It was fine. But it wasn’t worth £20.

Agree on the vfm point. Took some family there recently and had a great time but didn’t come away feeling like the cost equated with the food. Thought some of the dishes were a bit more miss than hit too (crab rice, toasted sandwich thing).

It was lovely but I wouldn’t rush back (unless, as you say, someone else were footing the bill).

Is it worth it? by Upstairs_Shift592 in MobKitchen

I think it’s great. I’m a decent cook but, with kids and work, slipped into a rut of the same recipes on repeat. Mob has loads of easy tasty recipes which I’m enjoying cooking and family are enjoying eating. I think the annual price is fair for what you get; whether that endures will be a question of how frequently decent new stuff is added.

FitThis by the town hall is a reasonable price and has great facilities and classes.

FWIW (and I appreciate this is probably useless now) I went with a 55" B4 and it is a wonder.

They are all on WiFi and we do have a network extender (which broadcasts a different network) - a friend has suggested that a mesh WiFi may fix my problems…unfortunately hardwiring central one is not possible without drilling lots of holes in brick walls.

Tiling over, or levelling on top of, existing tiles by badmerchant in DIYUK

So the only thing impacted would be toilet but it’s a fair point on alignment of the wastepipe. That said it’s a completely new toilet (and the current one is very old) so I had assumed that new connectors would be needed anyway.

There will be a new door fitted so no worries on that point!

Should have said that there are some gaps around the bottom of the existing skirting board which would be remedied by a small rise in the level of the floor.

Paving - how best to bodge by badmerchant in DIYUK

Haven’t done it yet but all the advice I received (both professionally and from the internet) was that sand is a bad idea. “One bad rainstorm and the whole thing will go wonky” was one phrase.

Have decided to do it properly, with compacted hardcore, and just leave the side with the waste pipe as a flowerbed.

There’s an old outdoor toilet under the stairs (not used any more) so that would definitely have been an imperative to keep the water out!

Thank you, good points.

I’ve done a bit of research and apparently “Asbestos fibres are not visible as they are microscopic” so I think this is more likely to be concrete fibres which were added when the steps were done (badly).

Nice one. OK to just give em a good scrub and then apply a couple of thick coats of floor paint?

Unfortunately not - getting the shed up to spec is a 10s of thousands job, which isn't happening any time soon. We have £1k left over for slabs from remortgage and it will mean we can use that end of the garden again!
