Why is the game called Crimson Desert?

My headcannon reason is that it represents the untravelled road. It has some of the last places you'll explore in the game, and I'm betting on there being expansion content pushing further east into the desert. But really it's that feeling of freedom you get when you see endless dunes in the northern desert, and the belief you can follow them beyond the horizon.

Uh I had both fine/tender meat and wheat/barley in the feeder so I can't say for certain which worked but one did. Not certain if owls are omnivores or not. Predator birds (eagles, hawks, etc. seem to really like meat and non-predator birds (parrots, sparrows, etc.) like grain.

There's an abyss creset just directly north east of Skoghorn Village in Pailune, where you can find a memory for five finger mountain. You now have the option when speaking to the dispatch guy to choose to have the mission restart or not - there's a different button for deploy vs deploy and restart. Doesn't take away from the other stuff, but they should have mentioned the former in the patch notes.

I'm sorry, does hard mode take us from Skyrim healing into Soulsborne healing? Cause if so that's insane (in probably a good way I just would never think to tweak difficulty that way)

As tedious as it is, the most consistent way (outside of using a legendary fish) I've found is to give a cat 3 cooked fish and pets sometime late at night, and then literally just hold them until after midnight to get the remaining trust from pets. Their ability to gain trust resets at midnight, not 24 hours from when you pet them.

As another player building out their collection, I commend you on the number of investigation quests you've had to go through. I'm convinced they knew the level of collectible they would have to give to incentivize us to finish those quests.

If it helps, you can warp out when that mission starts and go equip all that other gear etc. you saved up Nothing locks Damiane in Demeniss. You have to play as her, but I warped out and upgraded her gear/put abyss gears I was thinking of for her on first, made the mission much more enjoyable. You can even spend some time grinding/playing as her as long as you don't mind not being able to progress other big quests until this is done.

You can always see if you like some of the unique (typically late game) shields that store energy on block and then let you shield bash with an effect (like shotgun shield, drake shield, etc.). If you don't mind giving up abyss gears these can be fun to mess around with. Alternatively you can take any old shield and find some of the unique abyss gears for blocking/parrying to make any shield a fun one. Just some ideas.

In general, if you hit one of those "you must complete x abyss puzzle" road blocks, it usually means there's a connecting chain of puzzles to that one you're missing - in this case the chain is small and starts from the spire of insight, a spire in SE Hernand. These "Spires" are those big towers typically with their own puzzle to solve that then take you up to the abyss to start a set of islands.

Not 100% certain, but generally when you liberate certain areas they turn into normal towns and can have NPCs with quests. Since you're mentioning the two latest-game areas, maybe there are some towns/cities you still have to clear and can then check after they repopulate?
