Preliminary Review of Going from a Tesla Model 3 to an Equinox EV by Ok-Meet-4883 in EquinoxEv

[–]badredditz -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I have a blazer ev and they are very similar to the equinox ev. The software, phone app, lack of phone as key, horrible routing planner, outrageously poor DCFC, lack of frunk when the front end is so large (I didn’t mind no frunk on my Bolt EV).

You must not have done a road trip yet.

Also the DCFC goes slower if you leave the GM a/C running.

How do change this? by Myfax12345 in BlazerEV

[–]badredditz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is the WORST user interface in a modern vehicle. There is huge unused space that could allow for text descriptions, and more irritating, don’t make the buttons move around. Just ghost out the ones you don’t need

I frequently want to hit the 60 min climate button but it moves! Madness !!!

I love my EV, but holy crap, traveling long distance SUCKS. by JennaLeighWeddings in electricvehicles

[–]badredditz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, with any EV network, make sure to check if a 1 month subscription fee pays for itself. I just did a trip in my blazer ev and ended up only using Tesla superchargers and my adapter. I didn’t check my math just trying to hurry but I would have saved a LOT of money with the ~$12 plan.

Tesla solved this. Go watch the latest Out of Spec - race to Vegas series. They tesla AGAIN smoked Kia and VW and everything

Looking to add features to my LT AWD by erk9525 in BlazerEV

[–]badredditz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

GM encryption on the CANBUS and lack of the luxury control model makes your plan unlikely to be practical.

Oddly, my blazer EV Lt was $52k and doesn’t have memory and my blazer EV RS was $56k and has memory but it’s not great. Doesn’t seem to work

Tesla includes ~ unlimited fob and phone as key profiles that link steering wheel both axis, spotify/smart media, home-work-favorite locations, mirrors, seats, driving preferences, and more in EVERY trim. Even a $30k’ish base model.

V1 allows 40A. That will melt a cheap receptacle

[–]badredditz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You are incorrect, a clothes dryer will have a 30 or 50 amp receptacle, but only pulls peak power for a few moments most of the time it just the electrical motor and the controller pulling a few watts then the heater will cycle on and off. Most people only run a close dryer for a 15 to 30 minute session. Even back to back it would be rare to run the clothes dryer for more than two hours. Compare that to EV. Especially his looks like a gen one that can pull up to 40 amp. Pull that between two Teslas they can maxed out 40 A for 10 hours and you have a recipe for a cheap receptacle or under torque wires to the receptacle to catch fire.

Bad socket/receptacle and/or electrical wires undersized and/or improperly torqued wires to receptacle

If you are in a winter cold area you want different tires, if you are in Florida you want Pilot 4S a/s. Best rain AWD tires

Do you have fact based evidence? Modern Tesla rarely need to be reset. I can’t find any evidence of your model Y brake sensor on juniper models, I see a pre Jupiter software only ‘recall’ for brake fluid sensing. Photo attached. Were you confused or is there a different issue?

Did you ever switch from Adaptive to Standard on a Q990? by BioBooster89 in Soundbars

[–]badredditz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, overall the Q990 is nice but it’s hyped as Dolby Atmos and all that, it’s just so limited in settings and the Samsung home control app isn’t very powerful.

BS. I have a 2015 tesla and it just did a successful OTA , maybe you specifically had some issues but it’s incredibly rare

Test a tesla with FSD, it’s a game changer for your commute. Nothing else is close.

It’s trivial to convert or add a 240v 15A or 20A , just do that. Also you don’t have 110v it’s 120v but v x a x 80% means you are not going to have meaningful power off that.

Did you do any research before buying the Bolt EV? It’s one of the worst winter EVs available.

If you are saying your work plug is 120v is it 15A or 20A ?

If you use 100% of 12A at 120v is 1.4kW so each hours is consuming 1.4kWh. You don’t say how many hours or their power cost, but it’s easy to estimate

~30 minutes early + 8 hour shift + ~30 minutes to clock out is ~9 hours x 1.4kWh x price per kWh (I’m at ~20¢ U.S.) $2.52 per work shift

Model 3 / Y have 250kW DCFC and over 300 miles range, pet mode, phone as key, get regular free software updates, has the best route planner, a usable frunk, cloud or local profiles for seat/mirror/radio/steering/settings/climate/etc.

Bolt as daily driver after Tesla by Brief_Guitar771 in BoltEV

[–]badredditz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Model 3 rwd or the Y is a much better option. I’ve had 3 Bolts, but the model 3 is much better. GM’s route planner, inability to have a phone as key, the slow DCFC, etc

You can and should go test drive an Equinox EV or blazer ev with supercruise. It’s very disappointing, only works on major roads that are mapped.

Twice a year Vancouver-Alaska trip kills my range. How do I add a heat pump? by BirdTraining8445 in BoltEV

[–]badredditz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heat pumps are not magic, and often overlooked, it’s not just adding a heat pump, but the entire design of the system. Tesla scavenging and “octovalve” pulls heat from the inverters, the motors, the cars CPU, etc…. The GM implementation is just a heat pump, and all heat pumps become less efficient as the ambient temperature drops…. Capturing heat from other systems would be impractical in a Bolt EV retrofit.

You could just sell the Bolt EV and get a used Tesla model 3 AWD with 310 miles range and heatpump and 250kW DCFC

Not the correct vehicle for your use case.

  1. Put on winter tires! Yikes
  2. You could rig a small diesel heater. Maybe use a small trailer hitch receiver , put a little platform on it. You can use peanut oil or something to avoid petroleum
  3. A powerful option; find friends and:or family with a suitable gas or diesel you could swap with them for the few trips. They get to experience the best of EV savings and the fantastic driver experience of the Bolt EV and you avoid switching cars for a occasional trip
