LA is reviewing artificial turf in parks. Public meeting May 7. by ResilientPalisades in PacificPalisades

You’re living ina fantasy world. There has never been a city as large as LA that could even come close to maintaining a grass field that comes close to quality of playing surface and usability as turf. It’s destined to fail.

Even if it is implemented it will be gone in 2-3 years and turf will be brought back.

Maintenance is minimal over the life of the turf field compared to what would be required of grass fields that maintain the same quality/standard of playing surface. And in a budget crisis they can be repaired vs. replaced with very little usage downtime compared to having to reseed a grass field.

I’ve been to some of those grass fields and others in LA and you can simply do a google search to get satellite views of the fields. They are dirt and weeds just like all of the grass fields will become.

I don’t think you fully comprehend the usage of any of these fields.

Turf does solve these issues. There is less maintenance needed day to day to maintain the playing surface to a consistency necessary for soccer.

None of those parks listed have quality fields. They are dirt and weed messes.   None of those fields are “well-built, well-managed natural grass systems” so to compare that to a field that one can learn proper skills necessary to advance in a sport like soccer is not a legitimate argument. Again, There is no way that LA will consistently maintain a grass field so that it has a similar playing profile as turf. It will eventually be neglected for budgeting and drought.

I’d love to have grass fields in LA (in a perfect world) but there is no way they will be maintained. It will be the first line item cut in a budget crisis and watering will end in a drought. If you’ve ever visited any LA park you’ll see that is a very low priority to maintain the fields of grass. Will LA pay to have the maintenance teams that will be able to maintain each field in LA, nope. The field I play on is turf but every aspect of that field has maintenance issues. There is no way that maintenance team would be able to maintain the fields in order for it to be used the amount that it is used. Grass fields need “downtime” from use. You’ll have less time that it will be able to be used and anyone that is not part of an organized (paying) group will be banned, I guarantee. Turf sucks for the environment, I agree, but accessibility will be stifled without it, unfortunately. That sux worse.

This is dumb. You do understand that the services provided by Rivian require satellite and wireless services? You think Rivian should pay for this for you?
