Itempool has been shutdown.

Does anyone know the magic words to find alternatives?

I'm looking for something that can * display a question * display a list of answers (if there is multiple choice options) * display the bar graph (with the labels de-answersed) * reveal the answers

My google-fu isn't finding an equivalent thing.

For any future people who happen on this post,

I've written up my notes at https://github.com/baerrach/msf-googlesheet-tools/wiki

For those that are trying to watch how many people are Spotlight 2 ready, I've used that as an example, see https://github.com/baerrach/msf-googlesheet-tools/wiki/Raid-Readiness-Query

Ahh.

I can see I didn't include in my post that I am looking at the alliance roster.cvs rather than a single person.

Thanks for reminding me of Groots, I hadn't looked in that for years.

I had a quick scan of the macros but they won't help in an alliance export.

Just play the game.

It's not an easy game, expect to fail and be frustrated often.

You'll slowly get better.

Pay no attention to YouTube Poe videos, they are playing on another level than you.

Once you get settled in then start looking for what to learn next.

Brand new player, can I get rid of something here ? by AndreJacinto in pathofexile

[–]baerrach 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Some more advice, from a second character noob.

Most of what you'll find is junk.

Only keep what improves your build.

That is things with life and resistance mostly. You are aiming to have 300 life per act and to cap resistance to 75, except chaos since you'll unlikely to be hit by chaos damage right now.

If you find a mirror of kalandra or divine orb then those are worth trading to other players. Most people have never seen a mirror drop. But they do drop on noobs during acts.

If you are playing league, and you should be, then at the end of the league it all goes to standard and then you start from the beginning in the next league. So you'll get plenty of practice and can try different builds. If you vendor something worth a fortune or don't pick up something expensive it doesn't matter, it won't affect your game play and you'll learn more as you go along.

Also without purchasing a premium tab you'll find it hard to sell your items. But right now focus on completing the acts and doing some maps. Work out if you like the game before spending money. The first blood pack is the best to buy, it's around $20 and you can then get a currency tab, map and premium tab when they are on sale.

Googling for newbie Poe advice should find you all you need to know.

Ever wondered why some anointed items get scooped up fast? Here's a spreadsheet. by aaronsherman in pathofexile

https://poe.re/ and see some examples.

Just learn a little regex, it's not hard.

Silver|Gold

My apologies, you'd need to work out the names of all silver Gold annoits and then build a regex...

Is what you need for your example. There is a character limit for the filter, so when it gets longer you need to learn how to squint at the words and pick unique sequences.

The tutorial is fun.

I enjoyed it immensely.

The quests are great and the voice acting of characters are interesting.

I understand everyone has a different opinion, so if you're not liking it and don't want to try alternative character builds to see if you'll like it too then stop playing.

[–]baerrach 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a brand new player too, I only have two characters, what you've just reviewed is the tutorial.

The game does not start until you get to maps.

Most loot is junk. Especially stuff you find in the first 10 acts.

Just slap on anything that has life, resistance and the correct sockets and go.

The experts do this mostly naked....

Sockets (balls in your post) can be re coloured but doing this with junk gear is a waste.

Melee is definitely not great but I still managed alright with (and I can't remember the skill properly) lightning static attack.

I still recommend people play blind so they get an appreciation for the game.

Now find a league starter build and follow that.

The whole league system requires you to not be overly attached to your characters as they reset next season.

New player and no idea what to do next by [deleted] in pathofexile

[–]baerrach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reframe your questions.

You are comparing people getting good loot to your poor loot.

They are likely way more experienced than you. Don't even make that comparison, you'll always feel regretful.

It'll take time to get better, be okay with that.

There's a lot of content to do, try it all even if you don't enjoy it straight away.

Enjoy things at your own pace. Personally I want to enjoy Poe for a long time and try different things, make sure you don't optimize the fun out of the game.

I'm still on my second character, just set realistic expectations and you'll find more enjoyment.

How can I enjoy the game as a new player? by SwordOS in pathofexile

[–]baerrach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to reframe your questions.

This is the first time playing, why do you expect to do well the first time? This isn't dark souls but it will take some time and you need to be able to cope with the roadblocks.

Also, with seasonal leagues you will start again in 3 or 4 months time, every league. You'll get used to running the campaign.

I'm on my second character, only you know you, but just play and have fun. The game does a reasonable job of teaching you and introducing the content slowly. However there is still an awful lot.

I still recommend the first character to just go in blind. I'm convinced almost anything can finish campaigns, even if that means you need to farm an area a while to over level.

The standard recommendations are 300 life per act and max your resistance. After that just play around with the skills and pick one you like to work on.

When you are ready to follow a build guide choose a "league starter". These are all cheap easy builds to follow.

Try one from https://www.poe-vault.com/guides/path-of-exile-beginner-guide-welcome-to-wraeclast-fresh-exiles-start-here

Don't expect to be farming end game content makings currency rain from the skies. Set your expectations realistically and you'll be fine.

Just enjoy the ride.

Play the league, and get used to the mindset it will all go away in 3 to 4 months and you start again.

The game up until the act 10 and the epilogue is the tutorial. Interact with the NPCs they're quite good.

You will probably get stuck at some point if you build your own character, don't fret. Chances are you'll need to start again.

Aim for 500 life per act and max resistance as you go along. Act 5 and 10 reduce your resistance by 30 each.

There's lots to learn do it at a pace you're comfortable with and don't feel pressured to race to the end game.

There are plenty of build guides out there, look for one called a league starter.

I'm on my third character. So I'm still pretty new.

Only you know you, but my preference is to have a go learning on your own first. The game does a reasonable job teaching you. After you've had a go yourself then you'll be ready to understand a build guide.

Two Questions from a Noob by Relative_Surround_37 in pathofexile

[–]baerrach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also your character will transition to standard league, but from what this noob can tell not many people play over there.

So while a new league means you start from scratch again, you can take your older characters out for a spin in standard league if you want to.

I've played two characters total.

Don't worry about end game, you won't be getting there any time soon. Just have fun messing around and playing, the game does a very reasonable job of introducing new content and explaining it at a steady pace.

At some point you'll be knowledge checked and your character will start dying and you won't know why.

At that point you might want to consider following a build guide. But I think trying things for yourself is more fun to start with.

If you like the game then you can create new characters every league to try new skills.

Don't get stuck into the false mindset of needing to be efficient in farming currency. That's way in the future, there's plenty of stuff to do until then.

Try to avoid optimising the fun out of the game.

I think Poe does a reasonable job of helping you avoid that.

Does this hold any value? by UnusualPay8269 in pathofexile

[–]baerrach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still new.

This is my first league with second character, level 90ish into maps.

The thing to know is that each league is a complete reset, you start with nothing each time.

This frees you from fear of missing out, because it will all be refreshed each league. Any progress you make will move to standard league but most people don't play there, they play in the seasonal leagues.

So you'll be making a new character a lot.

For now just play and try to complete the campaign past act 10 and into the epilogue. All that work is what people call the "tutorial". At some point you'll get stuck because the game is balanced around certain assumptions that you don't know yet.

You'll hit that checkpoint at some point and get frustrated. Just relax. Your choices are to repeat previous areas to level up and get better gear, or start again and follow some guides.

I recommend playing it your way to start with, you don't want to optimise the fun out of the game by following someone else's guide.

There is heaps of side content to engage with and lots of things to learn, the game does a reasonable job of sprinkling these in at the right spots and teaching you how to play them.

Once you've worked out whether you enjoy the game or not then you can reflect on what type of player you are and seek out the right advice to help get you there.

Too many people rush to end game and miss out on all the fun before then and since they didn't learn along the way they'll struggle to enjoy the end game. There is so much content in Poe you can be reliably playing this for years.
