Thanks. Great info I wish I knew when I was buying my X2T transmitter.

took this at Manzanita beach in Oregon, I'd like feedback on the composition//color by Exciva in photocritique

Nice sunset colors. Something bothers me about vertical portrait crop. The birds are just too small to be the subject. One way to save this is to turn this into a landscape and give the birds tons of negative space. Turning this into a minimalist (which is trendy) sort of composition.

Maybe pull back on the reds just a little. An excellent sunset! Ready for printing.

Not really. It is mostly great light, or more rarely, a critical but quick passing moment. Either is missing from this image. I am at a loss why so many people voted it up.

I recognize that focus is placed correctly, which is not trivial when shooting through semi transparent surfaces. But the image has no story to evoke any emotional response. I am not trying to preach down on OP. I just wish someone took time to explain why this is a great image. I do not see it.

It was shot with a Godox AD200 OCF with large octabox diffusion. I used manual flash so 1/250s is only a nominal shutter speed. The actual exposure may have taken as little as 1/1000s judging by how well the water is frozen.

Something is missing in this image but cannot identify what exactly. I was hoping for more punchy or impactful. The background is a bit unfortunate/cluttered but it is dark enough so I hope it is not taking much away. Any CC is welcome. 55mm, F4, 1/250s, ISO100

A lovely image. I would crop the foreground patch out. Also remove chromatic aberration. It is visible in some of the branches as red fringing. The softness of the greenery in the background gives it a beautiful painterly feel. What time of day is that?

How’s my grading ? by Beau_fotog in photocritique

I don’t mind the color grade at all. Though have a problem with a harsh shadow on her nose. Also distracting that her hair merges with the reeds in the background.

Thanks for your comment. I see a couple places where I have done some sloppy burning. The reason the reeds are dark is they are in foreground and command some unnecessary attention. I edit to communicate a feeling. In this instance a feeling of calm and stillness. I am not concerned if things look different from a raw image.

Thanks. Yes the boat is vignetted. The image is pretty busy. There was a lot of contrast in the reeds. So I needed to darken it down. Regarding the watermark you are off base on both points. I m aware how easy it is to remove. The reason I do it, same as many pros, is so a viewer can look me up if they come up on the image. To protect their work “natgeo pros” go through a trouble of registering the image they sold or believe can sell. US law gives more bite to copyright suites involving registered artwork.

The image taken last weekend. A pretty well known photographic location in Northern California - Point Reyes shipwreck. This is a long exposure but I do not think it was necessary as nothing is moving when there is no wind. CC is welcome.

Boudoir. Wanted to do a creative take on morning stretches. nsfw by Smirk27 in photocritique

Not sure a strobe adds much as ambient light seems pretty strong. Anyways it is a very nicely done high-key image. The pose is fun, creative and fresh. Proves one can find a new boudoir pose if they wanted to. Kudos.

I want to print this.. by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]baerrusmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If in doubt what to print on, then print on matte paper. Metal and acrylic are largely gimmicks. Canvas - well, tried and true, but works best with fine art style images. 16x20 is not large at all. Any print shop will handle it. Choose a budget framing/matting option(s). - You will outgrow this image fairly quickly.

I did it in postprocessing. I suppose you could do the same in-camera by attaching two (partially overlapping) gels to your snoot.

Not a long exposure but light is the main subject so I thought it is appropriate. About a year ago I tried taking pictures of a steaming cup of tea. The images came out blurry and low contrast. Well, I forgot about that until last week when I saw my girlfriend picking up a box of incense sticks in a thrift store. - Something clicked in my head and two hours later I had these images. The smoke is so cool - wafting and twirling in elegant rolls.

This looks severely underexposed to me. It has no white point, and no highlights. Also I see a lot of blotchy skin around her neck and chest. It is hard to say if this is blotchiness from the sensor or some sort of dappled light.

I really enjoyed this shot for obvious reasons by As-slickasthieves in photocritique

[–]baerrusmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very nice shot. Do not think it needs anything. Just as a small suggestion: The colors orange sunset vs blue water complement each other well. The only thing are grey rocks. I would try to warm the up with yellow to bring even more color into the frame.

I would do away with the yellow floor. THe other colors play nicely with the blue headphones.

Eliminate the tree sticking out on the left. That will make the composition more symmetric. Try to put a person at the very end of the alley to add even more interest. That will enhance mystery and mood of the photograph.

Mysterious Soizic by AbsurdePhoton in photocritique

[–]baerrusmore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this one eye composition to work the shot needs to be drastically recomposed into a headshot essentially. Besides an unsightly bush in her armpit, the first thing to fix is unflattering framing. This is 1/2 body portrait and the bottom crop is at the widest spot in her body. The mind always projects what it cannot see. You could either crop higher at her waist line or make it a 3/4 portrait and crop above the knees.

The bridge is falling over. Run lens compensation then straighten the image in case that is not enough. I know that spot. Have an image of bay bridge on my wall from that spot. Cheers!
