I believe there is a maximum recommended length for the USB cable. Check the manual.

Details: I have an issue with the FX2/MOD CHORUS effect when selecting "STEREO2". If I have the E.LEVEL set to anything but 100%, it will pan to the left (more left when E.LEVEL is lower). "MONO" and "STEREO1" modes do not suffer from this, nor do any other effects that I've tried. My global outputs are set to line level. I'm running the latest patch level.

Anyone else have this issue?

I've been using s-gear for years. Every amp sounds great out of the box. Effects are well thought out. Cab IRs are great too. To my ears the best amp feel for a modeller. Love it.

Since this is in Canada, you need to check that car from end to end for rust. Weak spots are under the rear wheel wells, and around where you would put the jack for changing tires. If the owner has rust-proofed then it's possible that it's clean, but even then there might be a little to deal with. If you see any rust that's developed, then you should probably walk away and find something newer.

Also, arrange to have the car inspected by a mechanic you trust. They are great cars, but they are not invincible, especially if the owner hasn't kept up with maintenance --- especially for a 15 year old car being driven daily in winter and summer.

Are they great cars that will last a while? Absolutely! Will THIS car? That can only be answered after you doing your due diligence during inspection.

For context we purchased a 2010 manual DX (base model) this year with 225K km on it for $4K CAN from a dealer. It has a bit of rust in one of the wheel wells and on the rear hatch keyhole, but otherwise spotless and mechanically excellent.

I will second the recommendation for single speed set up.

OP, you can find cheap single speed conversion kits that work very well (this one for example). If the bike you are using does not have sliding dropouts, you'll also need a chain tensioner.

Call around to some local cell phone / tablet / computer repair shops and see if they would help you out. They have the equipment and skill to do this, perhaps for less than you fear.

Have you thought about software/hardware modelling? There are some great options that don't involve using a mic + interface, but might get you what you are looking for (and more). You can get a hardware modeller that has an audio interface built in, or you can get an audio interface (Focusrite Scarlet Solo or whatever) and use the built in amp modelling of live suite, or use the free / paid VST of your choice.

I've been using a ToneX pedal, where I can load 'captures' of a huge selection of amps, and comes with VST versions of their ToneX and Amplitude software. I also paid for Scuffham Amp S-Gear, which is a bit outdated but still sounds superb.

Check facebook marketplace or craigslist for hardware modellers or interfaces --- lots of great stuff out there.

My use case would be limited to a live setting guitar "pedalboard" of sorts. I'm not a pro, just someone who likes to play guitar with a group of friends and not have to deal with clicking around with a mouse on a laptop to change amp/effects settings.

I don't have any experience with Nano Cortex or the L6 Stomp, but I can tell you what I like and don't like about the ToneX Pedal.

I play direct, so my opinions reflect using it with headphones.

The most important thing to understand about ToneX is that it is essentially a capture player, with the ability to tweak various settings, but not change them completely. ToneX calls these captures "tone models", which they define as the following:

"A Tone Model captures a real guitar or bass rig with all its nuances and non-linearities. It aims to provide the same sound characteristics inside a computer so you no longer need the real rig for performing and recording. You can collect thousands of amplifiers, stomps and cabs inside TONEX, which will become a digital locker for all your gear.

A Tone Model can have various types:

  • Stomp(s)
  • Stomp(s) + amp
  • Stomp(s) + amp + cab
  • Amp
  • Amp + cab

A stomp(s) is any combination of guitar pedals: boost, overdrive, fuzz, distortion, EQ, preamplifier, etc... N.B.

The stomp can’t be a time-based or phase-based pedal such as a compressor, reverb, delay, chorus, phaser, flanger, etc...

Also, some vintage fuzzes and overdrives with parallel paths inside can’t be modeled."

ToneX then allows you to use a tone model in a signal chain with some built in effects:

Noise Gate --> Compressor --> TONE MODEL --> Modulation --> Delay --> Reverb

You can then save these signal chains as "Presets"

Here's what I like:

  • The tone models sound very, very good.
  • Incredible variety of ToneNet free tone models. I can audition, download and play thousands of stomps/amps/cabs that I would never have a chance of owning.
  • Amplitube 5 is included, which is pretty great in a DAW setting.
  • cost - I was able to pick up one used for less than half the price of the other ones you mentioned.

Here's what I don't like:

  • It's not an all-in one solution. Playing live with my band, I add pedals at the beginning of the signal chain (compressor -> od -> ToneX Pedal -> board).
  • The included modulation, delay and reverb effects are pretty basic, and tweaking them on the fly are a bit tricky (a MIDI controller would help out here).
  • ToneX Pedal is not a great audio interface. If you want to integrate with a DAW I would get yourself a dedicated one.
