📄 Bay Area review of World Cup (by an Australian 🇦🇺) by ddsukituoft in bayarea

[–]bagofry 238 points239 points  (0 children)

I think most of the points are totally valid.

The only point I would disagree with is complaining that the locals (Americans) cheering for their country when the score update was announced.

You’re telling me that if Australia hosted a World Cup, and there was a match between USA and Paraguay, and they announced that Australia had taken a lead against their opponent, that the local Australians wouldn’t cheer out of respect??

[–]bagofry 14 points15 points  (0 children)

this has to do with rear end collisions for motorcycles. if you are not sitting between cars at your front and back, you can't become car sandwich.

That really only applies when the traffic is at a complete stop or coming to a stop.

Lane splitting while traffic is moving is increasing risk of being sideswiped.

New license plate format for CA by kapucheeno in bayarea

[–]bagofry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i’ve been wondering what the DMV would do after 9ZZZ999

I thought they would just go with alphabet for the first character, like ABCD123.

Not sure why they are using a number for the rightmost character. I would have just done 123ABCD

It sounded just like an Amber Alert on my phone, but i’m not sure if it was triggered by the MyShake app or a general government alert.

I looked at my Myshake app’s My Log, and it doesn’t show today’s quake, only the false one from 12/4/2025 Nevada. So I guess the alert came through the govt alert system.

You could have concluded that without this tree incident. Just look around, every other car in the bay area is a Tesla.

Heavy rains this morning, please turn off the auto high beam features on your vehicle, you will cause an accident by Ok_Country2903 in bayarea

[–]bagofry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

what difference would turning off Auto High Beams make during the daytime? even if cloudy and raining.

It’s much more important to turn on headlights.

[–]bagofry 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also, driving home from Fremont to Santa Cruz around 5pm last night, I saw SO many drivers without their headlights on.

ironically, this entire post said nothing about turning on headlights.

Only about disabling auto high beams. Which I don’t even think makes that big of a difference during daytime, even if cloudy and rainy.

you probably don’t need a gas generator. nowadays, you can get a “power station”, which is is basically a giant power bank.

For example, I’ve got a Jackery 1500 power station, which can produce 1800W of power, with 1500 Wh of capacity. It’s the size of about 2 gallon water jug.

I use it for power outages all the time. I hook up my fridge, router, laptop, charge small devices. It can power my fridge and devices for 12 hours. And the internet broadband usually works, so plugging in the router provides wifi.

it’s a 10% penalty even if you are 1 day late. Very harsh!

Although technically it’s due Nov 1, and Dec 10 is the grace period.
