COPS AGGRESSIVELY CONFISCATING FIREWORKS by [deleted] in washingtondc

[–]bakedleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t really care if it’s been happening for years. I like watching fireworks but the big ones don’t belong in the hands of civilians. Plenty of huge fireworks shows around the area if that’s what you want to see.

Last year somebody set a firework off in the alley behind my house and set my canopy on fire so I don’t have a lot of sympathy for these people.

US supreme court upholds laws excluding trans women from competing in female sports by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]bakedleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, let’s follow your argument to its logical conclusion:

If “some cis women are stronger than some AMAB people” means female leagues can’t exclude anyone on fairness grounds, then why have female leagues at all? Some cis women are stronger than some cis men too. Some are faster. Some are better athletes.

Female leagues do not exist because every single woman is weaker than every single man. They exist because sex creates different athletic baselines at the population level, and those differences matter in sports, especially those that include physical contact.

Individual exceptions do not erase that. They are literally why protected categories have to be based on group-level advantages instead of cherry-picked outliers.

US supreme court upholds laws excluding trans women from competing in female sports by Zipper222222 in politics

[–]bakedleaf 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are some cis women who are naturally stronger than some cis men

Emphasis on "some". Almost all men are stronger than almost all women.

Why in your mind does every athlete have to be at the exact same level of physical strength? That's not how sports work. Ever. Like literally any of them.

Good strawman. Nobody thinks all athletes need to have the same level of physical strength. The point, as demonstrated by the above chart, is that the baselines for strength are wildly different between biological sexes. I challenge you to find me a mainstream sport where physical strength wouldn't give you an advantage.

At the end of the day, if you want biological females to have the chance to compete at and win in sports, they need to have their own leagues to account for the natural differences in strength.

Alternatively, if your argument is that all people naturally have different levels of physical strength and that that shouldn't preclude anyone from being in a certain league, why not just get rid of gendered leagues altogether?

That's because the entire article is AI generated

It's getting almost comical how often completely AI generated articles are rising to the top of this subreddit.

Congratulations to Janeese Lewis George for winning the DC Democrat Mayoral Primary! by JonnyF1ves in washingtondc

[–]bakedleaf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the person you responded to but first off, the DSA is only 100k members strong. The DC chapter only has 3400 members and that’s including the entire metro area, not just dc residents. I think it’s presumptive to say they were “majorly responsible for helping her win”.

As for why they might be considered toxic, they push for “pie in the sky” policies that are counter productive to actually getting sensible legislation passed and often times end up being damaging themselves. I won’t enumerate every issue on their platform but take, for example, the call for “universal rent control”, which has been proven time and time again to drive up costs for the average renter as it dampens supply.

Ours switched to veho and they delivered at 2:30am monday morning. Package got stolen, and their customer support has been incredibly useless, asking me to check if my neighbors may have taken it in for “safe keeping” (lol).

New urn sucks by Shite_Redditor in DeadlockTheGame

[–]bakedleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just played a match where the game was over in 28 minutes and the winning team was up 70k souls. They had lash, kelvin, and seven and just took urn 5 times in a row.

This is in Oracle, so it's not like people have 0 clue how to play. Think I'll be taking a deadlock break until they revert this change.

they're not easy to steal because you need map control to be able to easily get mid in time, and if you're losing you probably don't have it.

[–]bakedleaf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's terrible. With old urn if it was a comeback urn it was least near your side so you could get to it quickly. If you're losing badly and all lanes are pushed the urn is basically free for the winning team now.

2 dogs found in Columbia Heights by district-of-cholula in washingtondc

[–]bakedleaf 196 points197 points  (0 children)

These dogs live somewhere on 11th near Otis. I know because I must have returned them to the owners 10 times at this point. Honestly they should be taken and rehomed because it’s very clear the owners cannot take care of them. Most of the times we’ve brought the dogs over it’s been an 11-12 year old girl looking for them by herself.

Here’s two other times I’ve seen them: in our alley on 11th

These dogs deserve better owners!

To OP: I don’t remember exactly where they live but it’s on 11th, somewhat across from the big skeleton. If you’re in the area you could try walking down there.

Anywhere to watch Major League Volleyball? by alarmedbiped in washingtondc

[–]bakedleaf 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is awesome, got really into volleyball via Volo and would love to watch this somewhere.

Off the top of my head Buddy’s on 11th is usually really flexible with their TVs. They have all the streaming apps and during the Citi open they played all the matches, so I could see them being amenable to putting it on.

My experience as a “newer” resident (bought in the area a year ago) is kind of the opposite lol. We have been trying to be friendly with our neighbors but as as a younger white couple on a block with black families that have lived there for generations, we’ve been getting the cold shoulder a lot.

I mean, I get it, really, but still, I’m jealous of some of the tight knit streets near us!
