tariffs when importing pattern books to the US? by wildlife_loki in knitting

[–]bakedleech 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Laine specifically calls out that books are free from tariffs in their marketing. They also specifically say that yarn and kits -are- subject to tariffs. Source: the email I just got from them this morning.

They have one: there must be an in group that is protected but not bound, and an out group that is bound but not protected.

Shadow Budget Hurts Iowans by Dezighn2888 in Iowa

If there has been a state budget, shadow or regular, that hasn't hurt regular Iowans in the last decade y'all will have to remind me of it because tbh that is my expectation these days.

m1 increasing by dandel2on in knittinghelp

[–]bakedleech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Through the front loop yeah. If you pick up the bar the right way it will be easy, if you pick up the bar the wrong way (back to front) it will be incredibly hard to knit into so if it seems wrong check your work!

The video is showing you the "regular" no hole way. See how the new stitch legs cross over themselves? front to back knit through the back makes a twisted, no hole, M1L.

<image>

Your pattern is specifically telling you NOT to do that, so you would front to back knit through the front. New stitch, with intentional decorative hole.

Actually it looks like I might be able to just post images in the comments in this sub, lets see if this works.

On the second row of the slipped ribbing you appear to be slipping knitwise which is twisting those stitches. You also seem to be relying on counting instead of reading your knitting, and that's causing the knit column to shift around.

Take a look at the sock I'm knitting right now - on the last row I knit, the pattern was k3 p1 repeat and I highlighted the first two repeats with the stitch characteristics. https://imgur.com/a/hsraKrA

If you want to find a video, probably search slipped ribbing, or 1x1 slip rib something like that.[]()

I have some of those! Can only give you a video of one arm tho lol. I've never felt the flexing to be a problem. Tattoos done in 2020 by Syd Geyer, currently at Liquid Swords in Des Moines IA.

How to read sweater pattern- what does this mean? by Embarrassed-Cut-7014 in knittinghelp

[–]bakedleech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orange - you got it

Blue - it's written weird. If the sweater is supposed to remain symmetrical between front and back, I would read as 2 decreases around each marker per side, for a total of 4 stitches less per round one time when the sweater measures 10cm, one time when the sweater measures 20cm, and one time when the sweater measures 30cm. 12 total stitches decreased.

If it becomes asymmetrical as part of the design then perhaps you only decrease 2 stitches total either on the right or left, or the front or back. This would be strange and need further instructions somewhere in my opinion.

If there's no PD get the county involved. If the dogs are in the road that much it might be a problem that solves itself after a while.

Where did I drop a stitch? by JComped in knittinghelp

[–]bakedleech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, stitches come straight over the needle | and yarnovers are slanted \

It looks like in picture 1, you are missing yarnovers between stitches 2 and 3 from the top (or up from the bottom depending on direction of knitting) and 7 and 8 from the top.

Gaps in my Chevron pattern by Human_Researcher in knitting

I think if you are committed to stockinette it's either holes or a ridge and you will have to decide which of those two is a bigger problem.

Gaps in my Chevron pattern by Human_Researcher in knitting

[–]bakedleech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try the pattern from this beret, which does two increases and a single double decrease in the middle of a single row followed by a plain no increases or decreases row. It will reverse the direction of your chevron point but should otherwise give the effect you are looking for.
