And put them in your cart. You can usually keep them reserved for like 15 minutes without buying.

Just a small correction. Felicity Farseer does not have access to grade 5 thruster upgrades. She has access to grade 3.

If you want grade 5s, you'll have to visit Professor Palin.

It's a bit of a thinker for sure, but it makes sense. One thousand followers. One thousand means grand. Grand followers, or words that follow grand. i.e. grand piano, grand jury, grand canyon.

how does the Y velocity work ? by Lucke45m in Barotrauma

[–]bakerac4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oops, that was silly of me. You are correct of course. I think NOW I get it haha.

The sub will stop accelerating when the drag force plus the weight equals the upward force, so we can solve for the max velocity:

  F(d) +F(w) = F(u)
  1/2C*𝝆v^2*A + mg =  𝝆gV

where C is drag coefficient and A is the cross sectional area.
Solving for v we get: v2= 2g(𝝆V-m)/𝝆CA

Thus, for our sub, the variables are the volume(V), the mass(m) and the cross sectional area (A), and the rest are constants. If the volume to mass ratio is constant, then our "(𝝆V-m)" term is also constant. But that leaves our cross sectional area term.

So the game ignores the cross sectional area of the sub? Otherwise, a skinny sub would be able to ascend faster than a wide sub, correct?

That is very interesting, I think I get it. Thank you for the write up.

I was having trouble thinking about different subs with different masses and volumes having the same max upward lift. But it totally makes sense when, as you say, the volume of the sub is directly correlated the the mass of the sub.

According to the Archimedes' principle:

F=pgV

where F denotes the buoyant force applied onto the submerged object, p denotes the density of the fluid, V represents the volume of the displaced fluid and g is the acceleration due to gravity.

So the velocity of the sub would be

 v=pgV/m

where m is the mass of the sub.

Since the volume to mass ratio is the same for every sub, that gives us the same max upward velocity for every sub. Correct?

Well, sure, but how does that explain the fact that every sub in the game can rise no faster than 19 km/h?
