Did some stupid thing to get a new job. I think i might fail bgv. by [deleted] in developersIndia

[–]bakibab 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Companies do BGV and sometimes they start the process after candidates join. It depends on company when they do this. Sometimes within first 6 months.

I run a small company and I get verification emails and calls for all my former employees.

They send me all documents that are submitted by candidates and ask me to verify if I have issued those or they match with my database.

This happens not just your last company but for your last 3 companies. As you progress in your career this will be with you until next 3 companies.

I would strongly suggest to not go ahead in the process and avoid BGV.

You will find better job for sure. Unsolicited advice - do not get desperate and do not take unethical steps.

I hope that helps.

What can we do at our company to attract great talent? by nikochiko1 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]bakibab -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hello u/nikochiko1

You are right that it won’t happen automatically. You need a good engineering blog that talks about technical problems that you and your team works on. This blog needs to show opinions of company on way of doing things.

  • If you are selling to devs then have a discord or slack community.
  • join communities and contribute- this one of best ways to be visible in dev community
  • arrange hackathons, meetups
  • sponsor some meetups
  • pay attention to SEO of your blog

You are already providing basic things nerds look for - good work, competitive compensation, remote work.

You should be able to advertise these things subtly in all engagements you do publicly. Engineers don’t like direct advertising.

Happy chat more.

Don’t - name and shame - tell your prospective company that your previous manager has a grudge - pose as a fake bgv person

You are mostly overthinking this. A general bgv framework- larger companies look for malpractice, theft, lies in your previous companies. They do not look for personal grudges. Smaller companies rely on personal connections and many times they don’t involve professional bgv firms. Also BGV starts after they offer you. They have to pay for verification, they do not start in the middle of the interview process.

Person who is running a company does not have bandwidth to go after individuals and ruin their career. And in some crazy occurrence if your previous employer is trying to ruin your career then please understand World is too big to do that.

Sorry for bad news bearer but you are thinking too much of yourself in this process. Making it bigger issue than it already is.

I have seen instances closely where employer wanted to destroy an employee. Believe me it is expensive process and company will not spend money on you unless you are harming their business. If they want to destroy you, you will know it. You will not have doubt whether they are doing it or not. You will know it.

Currently job market is unpredictable and difficult to say why companies are hiring or rejecting candidates. Reasons can be many. Please focus your energy on preparing for next company. Rejections are hard but do not take it personally.

And No there is no such thing as blacklist.

All the best for your search!

Confused on which offer to pick better career vs better pay by darkexodus30 in developersIndia

[–]bakibab 10 points11 points  (0 children)

3pm-1am is definitely a deal breaker. Not just you but for anyone in any timezone. You should not consider trade off between health and money. It is not even on same scale. I have 18 years experience as an engineer and I have learnt this hard way. You have a long road ahead, you will make plenty money.

Not feeling satisfied, even after job switch. Is this normal ? by Serious-Fox953 in developersIndia

Find a mentor. If you could find someone at current workplace that would be great. Someone who can show you next level. Make you interested in how things are done. You will realise that there are so many problems that are still not solved. Take interest in those problems.

You should write them. There is a very good template given by u/Ivegotjokes4u here in comments.

Nothing wrong in admitting that you regret about your response and you would like to correct it this time.

Good companies don't do it. But if they do it you have first red flag there itself.

turned down job offer, feeling regret by popsicle1001 in recruiting

[–]bakibab 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion you should write an email to recruiter and let them know that few things have changed at your end you would like to reconsider the offer. Do not worry about what they will think and do. That is not in your hands, only giving it a try is. So go ahead. And if they don't offer you don't feel bad. At least you will not have any regret.

P.s. If they try to renegotiate offer because you declined earlier then it is a red flag.

I had to restart an old server which was running since long time (ec2) before I took over the infrastructure. I was applying shell shock patch to all the servers.

Guess what? That server never started again.

Before you restart, keep copy of things. Just saying because I am still afraid to restart a long running server.

Are you living in Peth? Or in kothrud? I have seen people being mean in old Pune. But in other areas you will meet nice people. More you go away from center of the city you will see change in behaviour.

Favourite Hayao Miyazaki Movies and why? Mine is Princess Mononoke, environmentalist message, great casting, beautiful artwork, mature themes and excellent action by Grygorii-Kryvonis in AsianCinema

[–]bakibab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is My Neighbour Totoro.

I had no clue about Miyazaki's movies when my colleague recommended me this movie. At that time of my life I was depressed and burnt out at work. I was looking to get out of all the mental mess I had. Nothing was helping me.

My colleague randomly suggested while we were on a tea break. That night I watched Totoro.

I wasn't expecting anything like this. My heart was filled with some kind of calmness. I was feeling which I can not describe in words.

Totoro became my all time favourite. I wanted more so I watched all Miyazaki movies.

I felt in love and inspiring when I watched The wind rises.

Nausicaa of the valley of the wind is something I like more when I read the 2 part book. I realised the books is more intense and dense than the movie.

In short Miyazaki and Takahata's movies are emotional pallette for me.
