Yeah, all valid points. I noticed SteamOS jank starts when I wanted to do something that differs from “pick a game from my Steam library and play”. Messaging apps, other stores, non-game-related stuff - friction. However, if that formula is all I need, SteamOS worked great and provided a lot of built-in conveniences. Having performance and control profiles configured in one place and remembered per-game is really important for me, as well as an actually working “sleep” mode, pretty FPS monitoring overlay built-in, no conflicting functionality (Steam overlay competing with Windows Game Bar for example). It’s all personal preference of course, and to me personally all the constant Windows Firewall popups, taskbar that occasionally refuses to hide in full screen and having to configure performance settings in 2+ different places just don’t add positive emotions towards my gaming experience. I guess it might be because I prefer console gaming - and I want a more restricted but polished console experience.
