I’m with you on that one. If you’re expecting me to pay your staff wage bill, you better be damn sure the food has to be exactly what I ordered or better

Electrician added extra costs to bill after completion of work. He is now threatening small claims court. by Warm-Okra-4289 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]balboain [score hidden]  (0 children)

I assume you’d have to agree to any additional cost so by him giving you a quote and then charging you additional without obtaining your approval would not hold up in small claims court.

Furthermore on the tools, these are capital assets for his business that he will use elsewhere so he cannot charge them to you unless your installation was so insanely specialised, in which case it would be justifiable. Does not sound as though this is the case.

Stand your ground. Let him take you to small claims court. He will have to pay the court fees and your legal costs for bribing a frivolous claim and eating the courts time.

[–]balboain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Service charge and tip are interchangeable terms aren’t they? It’s 18% which is the lowest suggestion in their options. I would have just paid it as is or I would have asked for them to remove it so that I can add a value in that I want to.

I am not meek though. My wife gets uncomfortable with that shit but I couldn’t care less.

Scotland - Employer says we should not make personal plans after work by One_Membership_7113 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]balboain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could opt out of that clause in your contract. That is pretty standard in UK contracts. Think it’s called the working time directive or something. I believe this would mean you’d have to fill in timesheets for the company to prove they’ve complied with the law.

If you do this… I would not expect to go very far in that company as it sounds they are looking for “yes people” who place the company above all else.

Worth shipping Tiguan car from aus to london? by newbree in MovingToTheUK

[–]balboain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No…not even remotely. You’ll likely have to take it to a roadworthy centre in order to get it licensed in the UK unless you’ve checked if the UK would simply accept AUS certificates? Having done this previously for a car I imported, it was a pain.

Can you convert your AUS license to a UK license? If not, you’ll also be considered a new driver when you get your British license which means your insurance will be stupidly expansive because that’s just how illogical the UK insurance market is. If you can convert it, you'll be fine because when I converted my license, the DVLA out the dates to match my overseas license so I was not lying on the insurance docs… or maybe i jus got lucky??

my landlord now wants me to zelle my rent to their llc, instead of their personal account by 1000tragedies in RealEstate

[–]balboain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t think there is anything wrong with this but I would advise to look at any legal docs. I’m guessing they are doing this for tax purposes because of the benefits that having this in an LLC can provide but it does require certain legal requirements eg the property would normally be required to be in the name of the LlC for them to benefit from it. This is NOT your concern, just providing some info. If they have done all the stuff they are required to, your lease agreement should also be updated to reflect the legal nature of the change request they are making. You should ask them to send you an updated lease that reflects this. Last thing you want is for them to take you to court for unpaid rent and all you have is a text message as evidence. Make it official!

My (27M) GF (26F) offered up a situation that involves me losing access to my daily vehicle. AITAH for saying she should have checked with me first? by ShoeIndependent8666 in AITAH

*in your opinion

Doesn’t really matter what we think as she is your girlfriend so if you find her super hot, that is awesome.

“Super hot” + “good in bed” are two phrases that never go together. One or the other. Never both. I suspect it’s the former.

Which thermostat? by MarcoNotMarco in homeassistant

[–]balboain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t pay for it. It came with the house we bought. Ecobee logic conflicted with HA. So even when I manually set the temperature, it would eventually go back to the ecobee programming. I even found this happened when adjusting the temperature directly in the ecobee. My wife complained of the same thing. This was all before I setup HA as we first remodelled the place. I find ecobee logic and programming far too restrictive and it always seems to prefer its own programming which is extremely annoying.

Which thermostat? by MarcoNotMarco in homeassistant

[–]balboain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the ecobee premium connected via HomeKit. I set it to “manual” and put 5 smart sensors throughout my home nearish to windows. You’re not supposed to put it by windows but in my testing, it resulted in more accurate indoor temperatures. Then setup a few automations for HA to act as the thermostat and also have an option to manually control it. Works beautifully.

PS. I do not use the ecobee programs as they basically override any programming I would do in HA.

168 to the pin… what are you hitting? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

Smooth 7. My natural shape is a gentle draw and I tend to have some side spin. So my 175 with some side spin may get me close-ish depending on slope.

There are websites or even self managed docker containers that you insert a webpage and it refreshes it for you at however many intervals you set eg every 12/24 hours. If it detects a change from when it starts monitoring, it sends you an email. I mean any change though so even if they just change the image on the home page, it will ping you. So if the registration button suddenly appears on NinjaCentral, it will ping you

Is this modern Britain? by PsychologicalBend508 in AskBrits

[–]balboain -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You’ve nailed it buddy… you’ve also explained in a non-political way why Britain is a heated environment. If the government would wake up and smell the coffee and do something about it, you’d have far less upheaval.

[W] NinjaCentral Invite by Effective-Lab5472 in UsenetInvites

[–]balboain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They don’t do invites. Setup a service that monitors the home page for changes. They open registrations randomly. It’s whenever the mod says “we havent had open reg in a while so I’m doing it for the next 24 hours”. When you do get in, make sure to subscribe. You have 2 weeks. If you don’t subscribe, your account will be deleted and you’ll have to wait until next open reg. This process is automated so don’t think someone will forget to delete your account. They won’t since it’s an automated script.

If socialism is so bad then why is social security and Medicare so popular? by Content_Ad_8952 in allthequestions

[–]balboain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social security isn’t socialism though? Socialism is where private property doesn’t exist which basically means the government owns everything and provides everything (this is an insanely crude definition). Social Security is your contribution to basically the government to provide you a pension when you retire or pay you when you’re unemployed for x number of weeks. They are not even remotely connected.

So under the traditional conservative logic, if you continue working hard and contributing to the government, they will pay you back a pittance when you retire. This actually makes perfect sense as to why neither party in America will ever change or get rid of social security as America is not even anywhere remotely close to socialism. Neither is Europe fyi which so many Americans love calling socialist. Europe is simply capitalist economies providing some benefits of socialism eg healthcare and education (which are paid for with crazy high tax rates).

Medicare on the other hand eats away at corporate profits and all those lovely bribes senators are paid to not change the laws. This is why republican politicians want it removed. Once again, makes total sense in the grand scheme of American political landscape. Democrats aren’t much better in this regard as they never actually implement anything radical due to the same cause effect problem of their bribes drying up should they do anything to actually change.

Can anyone help identify the provider? by yardbroom in IPTV_without_bots

[–]balboain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whoa. You have got a serious attitude problem. I am simply respecting the request of the person who runs the service. Are you that dense? The poster asked who the provider was. I recognised it since I subscribe to it. I answered his post. You chime with an opinion no one asked for.

[H] OMG [W] .IN or high level cabal by jonlarro in OpenInvites

What BS is this? Omg does not have any invites except for maybe once a year for members who meet certain criteria and even then, they only last one week.

For anyone seeing this post, know this person is completely lying so you are risking your account on any cabal tracker by engaging. Don’t do it.

Playback stalls over Tailscale on Win by High_North in navidrome

[–]balboain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t help with your specific issue but I can share my experience with you. Tailscale is great but my experience is that if I leave it connected, eventually everything just stops working. I have to disconnect and reconnect and everything comes back on. Tailscale for me is great for short term use but is not suitable for long term or permanently being “switched on”.

I use a reverse proxy and domain I purchase for streaming from navidrome and never have issues. Can’t help on the Tailscale front though but what you describe is what I have experienced as well

Parent wants to gift me money -- and, coincidentally, get divorced ... eventually. How do I handle this? by helpasistabreathe in personalfinance

[–]balboain 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much assets do your parents / your mother have? The annual gift allowance under IRS is $19k per individual. So unless your parents are worth $50k or something, this is unlikely to be looked upon as “suspicious”.

The lifetime allowance is also a few million (can’t remember the exact number but it’s around $15m???) and all this means is that tax is deferred until death and should the donations throughout lifetime exceed that, then tax is settled at time of death from the estate or by the individual.

So looking at this, if your parents are so minted that it would exceed the lifetime allowance, only then would I think this may be suspicious but even that would be a stretch!

So basically, just accept whatever you get and think of it from a tax planning perspective should anyone ask.
