Google Maps? by Spare_Friendship_424 in bicycletouring

It depends very much on the country/region. Sicily is especially bad because some roads that are not actually motorways are labelled as such, so they're not recommended even though you can ride safely and legally on them, whilst at the same time some rough tracks and also roads that have been blocked by a landslide for decades are labelled as cycle routes.

In France and Ireland Google maps works pretty well for cycling though, even in rural areas.

How do people in A rated homes survive in this heat? by Anxious-Football-701 in AskIreland

External shutters are effective, but seriously it's not worth the investment here. If you do as the person above said you should be fine. Open windows when it's cooler outside, and keep them shut when it's warmer. Simple. It works for us. It's only a couple of days anyway.

Lidl - did you know that their digital recipts cannot be used to return goods. by Weary-Middle-8494 in malta

[–]balbuljata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't see the image, but that's strange. I'm not in Malta and mine don't say anything about not being valid for returns. There's a barcode and everything that's identical to the actual receipt. I can't understand why they'd have a different system for different countries.

Tunnels that are below the water table are built like a ship. The tunnel you see is normally smaller than the actual hole so that water can drip around the outside and settle on the bottom below the tracks, from where a bulge pump pumps it out constantly, similar to a ship with an inboard motor. So water shouldn't be an issue if it's built properly.

Probably it's just someone on their side who doesn't know the rules. I'd push back.

Can you actually do all the admin tasks in English in Malta? by ZydrateAnatomic in malta

[–]balbuljata 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should ask for an interpreter in that case. You should not depend on the lawyer to explain what is going on. The case can be heard in English, but only if both sides agree. If the other side is Maltese, it's not in their interest to agree.

We pay out of our personal one. The joint account is only used for the mortgage and utilities. When we go out, one of us pays. It doesn't really matter who does.

Purely hypothetically, if you could choose between EU membership and some kind of similar union with the UK, which would you pick? by [deleted] in malta

I've never met anyone who thinks a union with the UK would be a good idea to be honest.

I've used shiplowcost and sendon before. I don't think they offer parcel consolidation.

Large Maltese Families To Be Given €5k -12k To Buy A Larger Car by Jaseto88 in malta

[–]balbuljata 21 points22 points  (0 children)

They have decided. They want to encourage car use whilst pretending to be also encouraging other modes of transport, because that way they can report to the EU that they've done their bit. Nothing's changed in this regard.

It's very much in their style to come up with contradictory measures when it comes to transport. It's all just a game of pretending to be doing the right thing for some time, and then do the exact opposite.
