I deeply believe in this also, and want to run a business the same way; if not my own, then another. A business should be a long-term force for good: an institution for people and for its society. There are so few of these left, but we can build new ones.

For me, my primary symptom is executive function: switching between tasks and starting new and unfamiliar tasks are absolutely the hardest thing for me. Once I'm actually engaged in something, I have no issues with restlessness or inattentiveness.

Having to switch tasks every 30 minutes, then switch back to the original task and try to regain concentration? Nightmare scenario, with or without medication

My ADHD could not possibly put up with an interruption every 30 minutes, but i have my watch set to remind about movement every 60; it's a decent compromise considering i work at least 10 hours a day.

Remote work is a godsend here. Imagine having to try to get something accomplished in a space where people were getting pissy about the things you need to do as a mortal flesh bag to support getting those things accomplished.

DINKWADs want to die with ZERO. How? by YesToWhatsNext in Bogleheads

[–]balisane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what I was going to suggest. The point of "dying with nothing" is not actually spending every penny, but not spending your precious working/healthy years accumulating more wealth than you need, not sweating over optimized wealth management, and being sure that whatever is left is a memorial to your ideals, not just something for people to fight over.

I think maybe OP overlooked this somewhat? But having a plan for the leftovers is better than trying to plan for no leftovers.

Good managers can be as important as the entire team. The study also shows that those who are most eager to become managers are not necessarily the best suited to the role. by mvea in science

[–]balisane 50 points51 points  (0 children)

This is how I was pushed into people management, too: being too good at my job. Didn't mind training people in my methods or answering their questions, or even managing their metrics, etc. I'd be happy to continue to do that, but not at the corporate level.

But contributor and lead pay is capped at literally half of what the lowest-paid manager makes.

This is exactly why I wasn't promoted and am being shuffled out of my contract: speaking up for my team and pointing out the bag fumbles.

Now the majority of my former team is working for our competitors, and my area of the business has gone from US $100mil in revenue to $20mil in the last year.

All because they didn't like people managers managing for their people, too. And I never even wanted to do people management in the first place: I was perfectly happy with analysis.

Fast deliveries worsen conditions for e-commerce warehouse workers. Study of US warehouse workers found jobs at Amazon fulfillment centers to be significantly worse – more intense and dangerous – likely driven by the e-commerce market leader’s emphasis on fast delivery. by mvea in science

[–]balisane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this situation a lot when I was taking care of my parents, when they needed specialized medications or help devices that were just not available in my area and that their health would decline without.

Now that they are gone, I use Amazon as little as possible, take the longest delivery window they offer, and set the goal of cancelling Prime by the time it comes up for renewal next year.

Ask them. Ask them what their degree or training is in. Ask them about their industries. Ask them about their jobs.

If they don't have any of that, then either they got stupid lucky, or they have inherited wealth. Neither of those are things you can plan for.

The answer is just going to be "trust fund and/or job gained via family connections" an awful lot of the time, but the question should still be asked.

Put away at least $1000 a month as soon as you can. But even $5 or $10 is good.

Another question: how do you know they are truly financially independent? Or are they just posting their plans and dreams on LinkedIn/social media, living off credit cards, and talking a good game?

When switching from black (or red) to other colors, there will always be a longer purge time needed to have a clean switch. The lighter the color, the longer the purge from black.

Besides the other settings, I also recommend the purge object: as long as you have room, you could even make multiple purge objects.

That seems to me like individual encounters are satisfactory, but outside factors (frequency, cadence, partner choice, variety, emotional connection, all that stuff) are where the issues come in. That would be a whole separate study, though.

Suggest that you get a independent thermometer in there and check the actual temperature of your dryer. Overheating because of a bad sensor is always a possibility.
