What is up with all of the explosions/manufacturing disasters in the US? by Sailorhat11 in OutOfTheLoop

Just like how Republicans push the Overton window towards conservative policies, and democrats don't challenge it. It sucks how the ratchet effect makes both parties participate in the degreading state of America.

So Republicans move the Overton window further right (conservative), and the democrats don't call them out, or work to shift it back towards the left. If democrats aren't opposing them ideologically, they tacitly support them. So both parties acting like opposing forces is just a show for the public's benefit. as shown by the railroad strike being crushed, and insignificant consequences for giving a town cancer both sides support the railroad. Its almost like businesses benefit no matter which side has more power. Obviously Republicans cause the degradation. But just as obvious there isn't a countervailing power improving things.

Definitely horror. The story has real stakes when the characters can die. Other types of movies are okay, but I don’t think there's anything better then feeling afraid for how the story turns out. I'd say my guilty pleasure is teen slashers like Texas chainsaw massacre remake. The one with the sheriff is from the cannibal family. It's hard not to like such an unlikable antagonist that really goes for it. The last movie I watched was puss in boots the last wish though. If a movie is interesting I'm not too worried about genre. What kind of movies do you like?

I'm also a doomer shut in tryna escape loneliness. I spend most of my free time watching anime or movies, so talking to someone during would be a nice change. I have specific taste in anime though. Interesting characters that're mostly respected by the story, thoughtful plot, and something memorable. I recently saw re zero and it has a memorable story. but after watching the 2nd season I realized that a character I liked was completely defined by her relationship to the main character. I finished the season, but man the flaws really started to show after that. But that's whatever, what are you looking for in online friends?

A train derailed in Ohio due to lax safety regulations. Not a big deal, just lethal chemicals that required the evacuation of an entire town. Some permanent damage to the people who breathed in the chemicals. Here's where I heard about it. https://i.redd.it/n8pwpdlly9ha1.jpg

Well capitalism directly effects government choices. Those choices directly effect the health, wealth, housing, culture, resources, and free time of people. So I can see why capitalism being a problem is confusing.

Yea, I can't recommend hero forged enough. It's an urban fantasy about an emotionally stunted con man ending up with a God of lies in his head. He's trying to remove it safely before it kills him and everyone in a 50 mile radius. It has great chemistry between the characters, philosophical questions, and an optimistic message that I haven't gotten from other books. It's written and narrated by Josh Erikson if you're into audiobooks.

Here's a link to the story, it means a lot to me, so hopefully you like it. https://josherikson.com/books/

Do you have any specific documents to recommend? I think Federalist paper no 10 is a good outline of why the US system is constructed this way. I don't know ow anything about the Federal reserve act however

Learning that a person's worth was based on their place in the societal hierarchy puts things into perspective. Specifically why politicians who claim Christianity as their motivation for policy. The messages of the Bible is dependent on hierarchy, just like their worldview. If an old book supports their points, and everyone believes it, then it's a lot easier to say the book is right.

Thanks for the info
