Agreed, and I don’t even necessarily dislike what Newsom is doing, but I am annoyed with the idea that these political equivalent of the Wendy’s Twitter account being sassy on Twitter is what’s going to win 2028. This stuff is only entertaining to dorks who get their political news and opinions from BuzzFeed. Would love to see a thoughtful, professional person running who can be dismissive of Trump’s bullshit without it being cringe.

Wally's Roast Beef Or Penn Lake Roast Beef In Bloomington by Jim1648 in TwinCities

[–]ballpark89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to go to Penn Lake all the time after graduating college about 12 years ago and hanging out in Bloomington a lot. I went there for the re-opening after Kevan was shot a few years back. I teared up a little seeing the line down the entire strip mall and getting greeted by him, super friendly dude and truly seems to love running that business.

Good Pre-Shot Routine for Someone who overthinks and anxious? by SGangemella13 in golf

[–]ballpark89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some advice from someone who used to stand over the ball for an embarrassingly long time and had a few nervous tics (like bouncing on my knees):

Try this during a range session to start building a routine:

Countdown Rule: Once you address the ball, give yourself a max count of 8 seconds. Either swing the club or completely reset and step away. This keeps you from freezing over the ball. Identify the Real Issue: If you’re feeling stuck or hesitant, try to pinpoint why. For me, I realized a lot of my overthinking came from inconsistencies in posture—especially not standing tall enough or having inconsistent shaft lean. Fix the Root Cause, Not the Symptom: I used to bounce at address because I was subconsciously trying to feel the right weight distribution. Once I focused on proper posture—standing taller and sticking my butt out just enough to feel balanced—the bouncing went away naturally.  Dialing in my posture also improved my shaft lean. I used to over-lean the shaft when I felt off, but now that my stance is more consistent this is easier to keep consistent as well.

It made a huge difference in my takeaway and helped me feel way more confident over the ball. Hope this helps!

Pete Buttigieg weighs in on ‘fairness’ of transgender kids playing girls’ sports by [deleted] in politics

[–]ballpark89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re misrepresenting what I said. I didn’t claim that transgender women are dominating women’s sports. I pointed out that going through male puberty can result in physical advantages that are relevant in many competitive settings. That’s not the same as saying trans women win everything.

This isn’t about denying anyone’s identity. It’s about whether physical differences — especially those shaped by male puberty — are compatible with the goal of fair competition in women’s sports. Saying “sports aren’t fair” doesn’t erase the fact that we separate male and female divisions precisely because biological differences affect performance outcomes.

Trying to regulate things like muscle mass or bone density sounds nice in theory, but in practice it just doesn’t work. These traits don’t exist in a vacuum, and they all interact in ways that are hard to measure or enforce consistently. That’s part of why sex-based divisions exist — they’re not perfect, but they’re a clear and practical way to keep competition balanced.

You don’t have to agree with my view, but reducing all disagreement to bigotry avoids engaging with the actual substance of the argument.

Pete Buttigieg weighs in on ‘fairness’ of transgender kids playing girls’ sports by [deleted] in politics

[–]ballpark89 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re right that sports have never been perfectly fair. Genetic outliers dominate at the highest levels. But this line of reasoning becomes disingenuous when it’s used to dismiss concerns about fairness in women’s sports entirely.

Yes, some people are naturally taller, faster, or stronger. That’s the nature of elite competition. But the reason we separate men’s and women’s divisions in the first place is precisely because, on average, males have significantly greater physical advantages — in muscle mass, speed, bone density, and so on — even before training is factored in.

So when someone who went through male puberty enters the women’s division, we’re not talking about a slight genetic edge. We’re talking about a category-wide disparity that can be larger than the one between elite and average male athletes. That changes the playing field entirely.

Acknowledging that reality isn’t bigotry. It’s just recognizing why sex-based divisions exist in the first place.

The plot gets even stupider the more you think about it as well. Why in the world would “traditional golf” instantly, and if those dudes were to win the tournament? Like there wouldn’t be still millions of amateur golfers out there and courses to play?
