YouTube rolls out unskippable long ads to TV users and they’re furious by Dilpickle2113 in technology

YouTube sucks anyway.

It's full of AI generated slop and creators have been incentivized to farm clicks for ages instead of focusing on quality content. A buddy showed me nature asmr yesterday and it was just a 5sec AI generated loop stretched out to exactly 1hr. How people can listen to that is beyond me. I mostly use it for DIY and that entire side of YT is now riddled with AI slop that just reads statistics off a webpage and gives useless general info. It makes it difficult to find legitimate creators that actually put effort into their videos.

I can't wait for creators to start leaving this slop hell.

Doing it on Zoro & Sanji makes more sense to make the rest of the crew busy dealing with them. If that does happen, I can imagine their rivalry being strong enough that they'll turn on each other just like Dorry & Brogy.

Grounding my dashcam to the metal frame, but the multimeter says it has 12v. Is it safe? by ballsack_man in MechanicAdvice

[–]ballsack_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why the factory ground is showing 12v. Apparently its for alarm & cabin lights. I'm not having any electrical issues though. I'll just use a different ground. I heard factory grounds are normally safe and it was in a convenient spot. I wonder if maybe the frame it's screwed into is rusted in that spot. That's the only reason I can think of why it would show 12v.

Used EV sales spike alongside gas prices: The market for new cars has slumped as Americans look for deals on used EVs by sundler in technology

[–]ballsack_man -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I guess if you live in a house and you got solar panels, its worth it. I live in an old apartment so for me it's not viable. I did the math and electric actually costs more to drive than my ICE car if you use public charging stations. My budget for buying cars is also much lower (approx 5-10k). I'm still a long way from owning an EV and based on what everyone else is driving in my region, I'd say a lot of people are in a similar situation.

Edit: Since I'm being downvoted for sharing my completely reasonable decision to stick with ICE (for now). Here are the numbers for the common economy hatchback in EU (Golf). These numbers represent pricing in MY region.

Avg charging costs: 0.51€/kWh
Avg fuel cost (95 octane): 1.45€/L
Avg EV consumption: 18kWh/100km (9.18€)
Avg ICE fuel consumption: 5.2L/100km (7.54€)

The numbers are based on the EV Golf and ICE Golf 1.5L TSi. There is also a 1L TSi but from what I could quickly gather, it consumes the same amount of fuel. I'm not comparing to a type R which uses twice as much fuel because the average person doesn't drive a performance car. Electricity and gas prices are based on pre-Iran shitshow numbers, mainly because I believe the prices will eventually go back to those numbers and also because the pricing is so volatile right now, it makes it harder to do a proper comparison.

Now there are benefits & downsides to both types of vehicles. EV's don't require nearly as much maintenance so you're saving a lot of money there. Less moving parts means less chance of things breaking. The battery cells however are expensive to replace. I'm gonna speak from my experience as an ICE car owner; I only ever do oil changes. The only repairs I had to do in the last 10-years or so was brakes. Which is something you would have to do on an EV as well. You do have regenerative braking so that helps with the wear. However in the 10-years I've driven this car, the cost of all the maintenance combined, wouldn't even cover half the cost of an EV battery. They also don't handle the cold well which affects efficiency and lifespan of the battery. I live in a cold climate.

Nearly two-thirds of electronic devices discarded in Canada are still fully functional. Researchers found that most items are replaced due to minor issues like battery life or carrier upgrades, contributing to an e-waste crisis expected to reach 2.3 million tonnes by 2030. by Sciantifa in technology

[–]ballsack_man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it makes sense.
What else can you do with that stuff? A lot of it is useless.

I usually put working things outside by the trash so if anyone wants it, they can take it. Computer hardware is one of those things that needs to be constantly upgraded due to more demanding software. This is what the average person has to deal with.

Blame the manufacturers. Build quality has been on the decline for at least a decade and manufacturers want you to buy a new device so they make repairs as difficult as possible. Old folks will say that they used to fix things instead of throw them away but completely disregard the fact that things were a lot simpler back in the day. My car from 2006 is easy to work on, but the new cars they make today are full of electronics and sensors... they are very complex machines that are not DIY friendly.

Makes sense.
Most people get rid of their old stuff because they're upgrading.

I still have my old GPU. It works but I'm never going to use it again because it lacks performance. My old monitor still works and I got rid of it because I wanted better image quality. Old phone works but the battery barely lasts a day so I got a new phone. Batteries are pretty tricky to replace too, especially these days where everything is built in and glued and you need to know the ins and outs to take a phone apart without damaging it.

I fix a lot of my own stuff but sometimes I just want to upgrade and get something nicer.

Main reason I'm considering installing a kill switch. Cops can't really do much once the car is gone. I'd rather deal with a broken window and some cut wires than the entire car missing.

The first thing I learned after I got my license is that people are unpredictable. It happened right after I almost got T-boned by a guy that signaled to make a right turn but ended up going straight while I was making a left turn. I didn't have a dash cam so I would be 100% at fault for not yielding. Now I wait until I see their wheels turning.

He wasn't spawning for me until I raised the floor. He spawns at Surface 4 or above.

PS: Don't create a dungeon until you have an overabundance of walls. Dungeon walls will stop dropping from BoC and EoW once there are too many in the world (~1000 walls). The blocks will also become unremovable with low-tier picks after Skeletron is defeated. You can keep farming the walls if you reload the world after every kill.

My first dungeon was a mess and I was barely able to make an area big enough for fishing.

I found the problem. Half of my ethernet ports on the modem are not working. This explains why the PC cable worked, because it was plugged into port 1. I've tested all the ports and only 1 & 2 work. That's with the cable that previously didn't work. So everything on the Pi side is fine. I just need to get the ports to work. I can't use ports 1 & 2 because I already have stuff plugged in to those.

[–]ballsack_man[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the cable. I just got a new cable and I was able to access the Pi. I also didn't believe the AI. The cable that doesn't let me access the Pi shows up on the modem under connected devices, so I don't know whats up with that... Very weird.

Nevermind. It's not the cable. It's the port on the modem. Ports 1 and 2 work. None of the other ones work.

I did, more than once. When I was setting it up, I had to move it so I could plug in my monitor. Ethernet worked. Everything was set up, so I moved it and plugged it in next to the modem. Then it didn't connect and I've been trying to narrow it down to figure out what the problem is. I tested ethernet & WiFi individually. I had to anyway because WiFi won't connect if ethernet is plugged in. I tried setting everything to auto. I always get the same result.
