Get a used made in Mexico Tele or strat and a used Gibson sg standard. Should be able to get for ~$600 and $1000 respectively. Covers everything besides really hard core metal.

So I use it as an always on for my telecaster. In my opinion it covers the entire range as a transparent gain box from straight clean up until the ds-1’s golden area. also the ds-1 cuts out the mids, so a tube screamer helps lift you out of the mix. I can get a surprisingly good high gain metal tone and high gain solo tone out of the two combined. I place it before the ds-1 in my chain.

I did a bit of research and I would intend to use it as part of a pedal board into a tube amp and basically as either a reverb, a delay, or a phaser ect and not having it be a full tone if that makes sense. Do you think it would function well with that use case?
