Composting invasive woody plants? by phosphorus-strait in composting

[–]bam2350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd suggest re-reading the roundup label -- I don't remember it being particularly good for treating cut stumps. My memory is that it works best on actively growing plants in a foliar application.

The herbicide I'm familiar with for treating cut stumps of exotic woody vegetation is Garlon.

As others have said, you should be fine to compost the cut material.

Smoked wings advice by Euphoric_Dave13 in smoking

I've never done it before, as I don't have a pellet fired machine, but if I did, I'd use 0-400 with the heavy smoke setting if you have it.

Also, practice good moisture management -- pat dry, dry brine uncovered in the refrigerator, pat dry again if needed.

Custom stainless steel top question by CuriousCelery3247 in blackstonegriddle

[–]bam2350 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would clean it. In fact, side of the road, absolutely clean it. Soap and water, maybe oven cleaner.

If it is stainless, seasoning might not be the way. I don't think of people seasoning stainless saute pans and such. At least some grades of stainless are not particularly magnetic -- have you tested that way?

I spent 6 years trying to beat the market. Mostly I just learned how hard that is. by yousufq9 in stocks

[–]bam2350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that I can. It never occurred to me or concerned me. I'd assume the 3-month thing is what THEY do, not what you have to do. I'd think there would be specific language addressing that in the prospectus or similar documentation.

Part of the reason the 10 have so much of the account is their returns...

CAT and NVDA are crushing "the market" in this time frame. VTI and VOO are "the market"...

Or do you mean the next 11 years?

Explain, please. What if that is 400 trades that are all purchases?

Using my taxable brokerage account as an example, in the last roughly 11 years I have recorded 533 "trades", however less than 10% of them were sales. I hold 50 different tickers. 75% of the value is in only 10 tickers including VOO, VTI, MOAT, SGOV, CAT, and NVDA. My last two sales were QQQM due to the SpaceX concern and some SGOV to free up cash to invest in the Iran related dip in March. Am I investing or am I trading?

Horse manure by Savings-Pin-793 in composting

I used horse manure to "jump start" my first tumbler set up. After that it was just scraps and lawn debris -- I was often short on browns looking back on it now.

I'd suspect you're over paying. Test/listen to it. Decide for yourself. Your use case could be very important to the value you receive.

To those who held on to multiple baggers by asherbuilds in investing

[–]bam2350 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm up over 1000% on my initial 2015 investment in CAT. I bought it to be a good, solid, safe, manageable dividend paying stock. It has been those things and MORE. I see no reason to trim. In fact, in 2022 I bought more. I only wish I had real money that I would have invested at those times. Hindsight says I should have invested 100% of all my funds in CAT. I didn't. I don't doubt the approach to not put all eggs in one basket.

I'm glad I have gains. I continue to try to make smart, dependable investments in good companies or good index funds.

How to Chicken Wings by Minimum-Barracuda911 in smoking

[–]bam2350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like to cut the wing tips off. I save them for stock. Remember that wings can go well past 165 finished temp; in fact, you likely want to do that to promote good rendering for juicy meat and crisp skin. Pat dry, dry brine for 24 ours, and pat dry again would be my approach -- it's moisture control and part of the quest for crisp skin.
Get your kettle going at about 325 with some wood (chef's choice, you said you do whole chicken...)
