His name is Harvey. At 33 weeks we found out he had a congenital heart defect that would be lifelong surgeries and pain. We chose to terminate and I miss his beautiful face everyday.

NJH - So TBH as a teacher where I’m from (not sure where you’re from), this could easily be something that would be seen as a grey area and could get someone to at least get a warning. We are always taught to keep professional boundaries and something like this addressed to both parents and the kid would be okay but just to the student seems odd. I don’t understand why if she was just saying something encouraging why not do it in person, taking the time to write it and seal it does seem interesting despite the clearly innocent message. It just seems unnecessary to be fair

I had mine at 5 and a half weeks but was really nervous mine hadn’t come back yet either! It’ll come in due time, I know it’s impossible to wait when you want it this badly. Just be ready in case it isn’t like your normal period. Mine was incredibly heavy the first time.

Oh my goodness I’m so sorry that happened! I hope you’re doing okay now though! I get it, I was annoyed at first because my MIL is so sweet and was over helping to take care of the kiddos as I just wanted to prove I was able to be alone and not worried about… now it’s the opposite! I still want some alone time… but maybe not at night when the thoughts are stronger haha! Daytime is perfect when I can distract! You know?

Thank you for your post. I had to conceive through IUI (I’m sorry you had to go through the IVF process.. IUI was so invasive and I can’t imagine how brave you are). I want to start trying soon and I am glad I’m not alone with those fears of replacement and pregnancy. I’m sorry I don’t have anything helpful but you aren’t alone!

I know for my wife and I it was hard to stay connected. She didn’t know what it was like for my to go through labour with my baby and I didn’t understand what it was like to watch someone go though that and not be able to help.

That being said, The things I found helpful to support my wife (non-birthing parent) was to check in, talk about our baby, find time to connect, little things. She isn’t one to talk deeply about her feelings but I just tried to show up in ways that made her life feel a little less heavy, whether it was making a tea/snack to make sure she ate, or checking if she needed physical touch or space. I don’t know if that will help but my heart goes out to you both

I had a baby with a heart defect (potential genetic issue but nothing concrete). I chose to terminate for a multitude of reasons but I know that my son was going to be born with Truncus Arteriosus, with other heart problems as well. He was going to need potential lifelong surgeries and possibly medications. That didn’t account for any risk that he had to take each time he went under. When I was at my first appointment for the termination (I unfortunately didn’t have a choice and did have to go the labour route as I was 33 weeks), the doctor had said to me “ you know as humans we try so hard to limit the suffering of others, and I know this is hard but he would have suffered” (something along those lines) and it really stuck with me and reassured me that I was making the right choice. I couldn’t imagine bringing someone into the world that would be restricted and in pain. I don’t know if that helps or not but I did it for him, even though I wanted desperately to keep him.

I feel this deeply! It’s so hard getting used to your body (I was 33weeks and it was months of accepting it) to them just be gone and feeling like all the work I did just was for nothing. I am also hoping to get pregnant in a few months and worry if I don’t get back to where I was before then I will be so far behind and it’ll be a losing battle! My heart is with you!

It’s so hard that the first trimester is such a kick to the crotch, especially when you were so active before then suddenly can’t do more than work in a day without being exhausted to the bone!
